It's just like sitting on any other HST but for longer. Nothing to be jealous about. Nothing at all. Really. It's just as much fun sitting in an office in Milton Keynes all day. If I keep going, I may convince myself eventually

It's the longest HST service in the country though, to achieve making it all the way and still retaining sanity is a badge of honour!
It is the longest journey but in first class with a brilliant catering team it is quite easy, especially for a train-spotter. I have probably seen loads of winners today! Oh, and its loco hauled so that makes it a lot easier. On a unit I would be insane by Darlington (Thats a lie. Probably York).

I did it Standard Class in March 2007, up on the one day and back the next day!
Oh, and I did Euston to Oban on the diverted sleeper in February 2006, that did involve a bit of a break in Edinburgh while they attached the seated sleeper car mind. York to Newquay in one go once too...

Okay, if we are going for longest journeys done back in September 2013 I did Torquay to Manchester Piccadilly a total of 5 hrs 30 mins (274 miles) on 220032!!
Although I have to confess it was first class and the endless supply of tea/coffee and Walkers shortbread biscuits made the journey bearable
The thought of doing The Chieftain with a pair of HST's does sound very enjoyable. Hope you had a good day.

I did that once. Lasted 3 months and was so desperate to escape, I went to work in Birmingham! Frying pan... fire...

I agree! It would be harder in standard but I would be at the vestibule window for the journey as far as Perth (except Morpeth-Dunbar).
I do want to do the Fort Bill sleeper as it is only that and the Lowland to finish the ones in Scotland. Aberdeen-Penzance is already out because of the traction and company.

I hate the sound of a pendo do on a 5 and a half hour journey, yet alone a voyager. In First class it would definitely be better but still a 220…
The constant food and drink was brilliant; I had about 10 orange juices and dad, 11 coffees. It came to the time when they were just filling our cups up as they came past!
Back home now and absolutely shattered as I dropped off around Perth, got back up for Edinburgh and was then woken by both my alarm clock and a pair of 68s at Polesworth.

One of my best trips last year was Westerton to Fort William on the sleeper, amazing to watch with the ability of opening the windows in the doors for better pictures, and the coach I was in had a little window on the back so you could look out of the rear.

Good to hear you enjoyed the journey young sir! I'd love to do that journey in First Class, if I ever get to do an FC ALR I'll definitely be there!
West Mids challenge repot should be up this week.
My next known trip is on the 11th of April at the moment. I don't know what will happen between then and the next trip I do which will be to Peny-ffordd. LMS-BMO on a 67/68, over to New Street, BHM-BPW on an HST, BPW-CDF on an HST and CDF-WRX on the WAG. The date for that is June the 12th.
Then out on the Saturday to Liverpool/Mancc or something like that, day with grandparents on the Sunday and back on the Monday via a simple route.

Good lot of travel ahead in the next few months there! I have nothing planned after my London bash in a few days' time, aside from The Yorkshire Byways tour at the end of August. Without a doubt plenty more to come soon, although what I don't yet know. The North West, Yorkshire and Scotland, not to mention Anglia, are all calling!

Scotland would be clearing 314s, 318s, 320s as well as making progress with 334s and 380s. Not to mention lowering the number of required shacks up there, nor to mention getting more 156s, 158s and 170s in, nor to mention getting some more trams in the book in Edinburgh!

Central Scotland Rover is on the cards for later this year, as are two days for a Daytripper and a Roundabout bash again. You'll get to enjoy the rover in a few years no doubt, and will almost certainly be scoring off plenty of the AT200s and so on!

Aye good point, I'll be on a Scottish Flexipass I reckon in 2017 (or whenever it is HSTs go north) to enjoy some HST action up there

As for a nickname for 323s, you could always use the name that's been going around for years, the same name I've been using for a long time, Starships. Trust me, it makes sense when you stop and properly listen to a 323 depart in a hurry!

Looks like you had a good time all in all, after all you've finished your original NET trams now so that's good!
I never logged my journeys at the time (spring 2004!) when I did the NET network, saw all bar one of those trams (209 I think was all I missed) and I still haven't been back since. 11 years ago now, crikey that's a long time!
