Fotopic vs Flickr?

I was just wondering why Fotopic seems more popular then Flickr for UK transport stuff, to me it doesn't seem as reliable or as easily searchable?

Good question! I quite agree, FlickR has been 100% reliable for me vs 50% approx reliability for Fotopic, as for Image shack don`t even go there!!

Try an experiment. Google any loco number that you know appears on both Fotopic and Flickr and see what Google finds.

I use both Fotopic for my transport shots because viewing is easier for fellow enthusiasts who view the site,Flickr is for what I consider are my best shots of all subjects and it does get way more hits

The biggest single criticism I would level at Fotopics is it's dire reliability, in terms of layout and ease of use both are fine by me. The ability to edit shots in Flickr is an advantage though.

I was wondering that, it seems a lot use fotopic just because others do.

I said to a fellow enthusiast that I used flickr and just got "eugh" but I like it, there is much more interaction with comments and groups.

Plus Fotopic's search is slow and not very reliable.

A lot of the 'interaction' that is a Flickr feature seems to be rather gimmicky to be honest.

For train photos, use Fotopic. For everything else, use Flickr.

I only say use Fotopic cos there are far more transport fots on there. Personally, I find it crap.

I wouldn't say that's true. When searching for ScotRail photos, I find that there are very few results, if any in some cases, from Fotopic and quite a few from Flickr.

Is there a way of grouping pics from different users in Fotopic? e.g. Flickr's Groups such a http://www.flickr.com/groups/tinsleyyard/ and Galleries within your Favourites?

Personally I've very few problems with fotopic. I also prefer the look of compared to flickr, though I do wish they would develop a few new skins.

I agree, though the use of the word "best" is subjective as everybody has their own preferences on such matters.

Whilst not wholly satisfied with Fotopic, it is best for my purposes short of making my own site (for which I neither have the knowledge or patience to do so). I also have a Flickr account but do not like the way the pictures are displayed but do like some features such as the ability to "tag" photos.

When Fotopic had one of it's previous "hissy fits", I did investigate Zenfolio and Smugmug but, again, did not like the way the photos were displayed. If Fotopic were to disappear completely, I would probably go for one of these two; they both offer a 14 day free trial so at least it is possible to try before committing oneself.

The biggest problem with changing hosts now would be the sheer amount of work involved in uploading everything again though it probably wouldn't be a bad thing to reduce some of the "junk" that is on our site (though I do go through it and delete stuff from time to time).

To me the fotopic collection view is better than anything I've seen on flickr. I'm one for wanting to usually see decent captions before looking at a photo, and whilst it can probably be setup to display that way in flickr, it seems fairly rare to be able to browse thumbnails of a decent size and get the caption gen on one screen on flickr.

I use fotopic because most people I know put their photos on it and I don't feel that flickr is a very good alternative to fotopic.

Used to use fotopic, but I find quality much better on flickr so I changed a couple of years back.
