I left McLaren F1 team this time last year… a year too early! Haha A 10k bonus in April would have been rather splendid! :E

Glad to see them win the CC. So deserved. The boys and girls work SO hard, harder than could be imagined outside of the “travelling circus”.

anyone else feel that - for the first time I can remember - the constructors‘ championship has been given much more air time this season?

Which I think is a good thing.

As @Ducatichick says, each racing team puts an incredible amount of work into each championship year. The proliferation of smartphones and on-demand video content means that seeing "behind the scenes" is more and more commonplace, which I believe is driving the recognition that the Constructors Championship is equally important as Drivers.

Do we know yet if McLaren will be handing out a Constructors Championship bonus payment to each member of staff? As this appears to be a tradition established by Mercedes and Red Bull in the last 10 years.

I’d love to answer this, I’m sure someone will risk spilling the details, but all I can say is McLaren are very fair with regards to who gets rewarded. Easily one of, if not the most fair to their staff both factory based and circuit based (I was the latter).

I know several factory based people who work for RB at the hours they put in at times are incredible. The bonus for winning is a good reward mind!
It’s even more mental when you have a travelling role. I’ve never worked such mental hours in my life, permanently jet lagged is an understatement but I’m taking nothing away from anybody.. F1 is a brutal workplace. You can have the red carpet in one country and guns pointed at you on another. Total madness.

Why would it be unfair. It would merely put Oscar back where he was before the "incident" with Mad Max.
I see it as unworkable and unmanageable and frankly pretty daft. It’s also unfair on drivers that have made up positions but not involved in the incident as you are effectively giving them a time penalty. Sometimes your race is hurt or ruined following a collision and sometimes you gain from other peoples incidents, that’s just a fact of racing.

Whilst I’m not enjoying the verbal handbags, Russell is right about Verstappen being a bully. Good on Piastri for holding his ground and keeping calm. That Piastri got the exact same penalty for a completely different collision, though…
I've long said that the only way to deal with Verstappen is to have the crash. If the drivers back down and yield then all they're teaching him is that he can do it to them every race. I thought Silverstone 2021 might have knocked some sense into him- if it wasn't for Masi, those dropped 18 points would have cost him the title- but it appears not. It'll be interesting how things go when Verstappen is the chaser not the chased; given his lead in the WDC this year, any crash that would put Norris or Leclerc out of the race would have suited him. That won't always be the case.

Senna used to be similar yet there was one person he never did it to: Mansell. Nige would always rather have a shunt than back down.

As for Piastri, ramming Colapinto out of the race was a slam-dunk 10s penalty. It did look like Colapinto braked earlier than Piastri was expecting though.

Delighted to see McLaren win it.

Too many races (+ sprints etc) for FANS never mind people working for teams

I'm assuming that one day, a double/triple header on different continents will go VERY wrong with some important stuff not arriving on time - what do you think @Ducatichick ?

I think piastri hitting colapinto wasn’t deserving of a 10 sec. It was a virtual sc restart, everyone is close together, there were a bunch of cars very close and behaviour becomes a lot more unpredictable for the next couple of corners. The contact wasn’t the result of the DNF either, that was a PU issue. In my view that shouldve been a 5 second penalty maximum. Open to what other people think tho!

This year, the default collision penalty was doubled from 5 to 10 seconds. In my opinion, this was quite careless from Piastri. I think 10s was fair, given that the contact could've caused a spin or puncture. Had this been last year, 5s would've been fair; 10 would really be pushing it.

Speaking of Senna - there is a Netflix dramatization series of his life available at present . It is ok. My partner who knows little about F1 enjoyed it but kept saying: that doesnt look much like Norfolk! They do seem to have the cars spot on mind

Or Prost.

I know other locations often double for their real life counter part but that is beyond ridiculous.

Think Max would better suited to Banger racing, he's just a thug.
He might yet get the chance courtesy of his FIA swearing punishment - depends if a cross car counts as a Banger :E
"While in Kigali, (Verstappen) will undertake some work with junior competitors as part of the grassroots development programme organised by the Rwanda Automobile Club.
The activity will involve an FIA affordable cross car which was built locally in Rwanda by the RAC from blueprints provided by the FIA."

Tbh it’s unlikely unless something serious like a downed bird. The car is dismantled and flown to each circuit to be rebuilt (due to the short turnaround) and the garages are shipped via sea freight well in advance (McLaren have six sets of garages-one stays in Europe and travels by road to each race but the rest make up the other races. Similarly one set covers North American races and I believe travels via road now. The logistics is a never ending headache but it always gets done.

And don’t believe the Netflix show that harasses everyone in the paddock… I used to spend half the time running to either the Merc/Alpine garages grovelling to borrow something which we had forgotten to replenish… the same can be said for them. Everyone gets along… if we didn’t -not a single race would ever happen for teams cocking up somewhere

I miss the F1 family but I do not miss the work/life balance.

Ollie Bearman who begins his first full season in 2025 will take part in the Super Formula test at Suzuka in Japan presumably to give him much needed experience of this circuit.

The benefits of Carlos Sainz at Williams are beginning as they have picked up Santander sponsorship. He will run in the test at Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Announced in the Sky F1 show is a documentary coming in 2025 about Damon Hill & is called Hill. They will also have live coverage of the livery launch & pre season testing.

Joe Saward has hinted a couple of times that things have been a lot more close to the wire than anyone would like, especially in 2021 and 2022 as the world woke up from Covid.

F1 people got it done because F1 people always get it done but I seriously think their luck will run out. I don't know if that was your experience, but Saward definitely said there were lots of people having to pull all-nighters after one back-to-back got delayed (I forget which one).

If one of the freighters goes tech then on a back-to-back there will surely be a lot of people with squeaky bums.

That will be interesting.

Ferrari N.V. today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.

No surprises there then!

Sergio did well initially alongside Max, his defensive drive against Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi 2021 was well driven. Unfortunately he has then struggled to match Max in the car.

The issue I would have with Lawson is he didn’t really do great alongside Tsunoda at RB & could be destroyed by Max Verstappen same as Gasly & Albon & makes me think they made a mistake in not hiring Carlos Sainz for 2025. Jos Verstappen has said he has no problem with the Sainz family after reported previous tensions

Most know by now that Yuki is a Honda driver, so he’s almost certainly out after 2025. Would I have moved him up to Red Bull for that year, giving Lawson an extra year in the Racing Bulls car before moving up to Red Bull? Potentially. I like Lawson but I worry this is just too early for him.

Glad for Hadjar, who looks set to get the Racing Bulls seat unless they pull Colapinto away
