Lando quickest in both practice sessions yesterday, and now everyone is long run practice, Russell is topping the times, Lewis is second, and Lando 3rd.

Well, qualifying certainly went well for the home contingent.

George Russell on pole, Lewis Hamilton second and Lando Norris third.

There was some rain around during the first quali' session, but dry thereafter. Could well be heavy showers during tomorrow's race, which would be likely to mix things up if they arrived.

Great for Hamilton. I think, however, Norris could/should have won. Slight error at his pit stop and his team surely put him put on the wrong tires. Piastri was steaming along on the mediums and was fastest of the top 4 in the last section of the race. Odd one.

Norris really called out himself in the post race interviews for the blame which seemed totally unnecessary hes overly critical of himself. Zak needs to put a arm around him and pick him up i thought his drive was stellar.

Heard a bit of F1 gossip today. Lawson could replace Perez. Lawson will drive this years red bull in a tyre test at Silverstone this week and if that goes well he could replace the mexican.

Agreed - I couldn't really care less about what Ralf does in his personal life as long as all parties involved are happy.

Having said that, just imagine the media frenzy if any of the current crop of top drivers were to make such an announcement!

I’m not really sure why it took Norris so long to relinquish his lead. If he had done so immediately, he surely would have had the opportunity to race Piastri with the remaining laps.

What do you mean? it was FANTASTIC! Childish strops, arguments, immaturity, anger, lack of management, radio chaos, Red Bull implosion, McLaren having no grip! Verstappen not liking it up him. Superb

Exactly, and given that Norris seemingly appeared to be faster on the final stint, it would have given himself the possibility of a fight to the flag.

Norris is undoubtedly still the faster driver of the two, but given that Piastri is only in his second season and showing great intelligence, I’m beginning to feel that he may be the championship calibre driver at McLaren.

There was a previous radio message to Norris before the second set of pit stops: “Okay to race the papaya car, but only to the mid-forties”
So it sounds very much that the pre-agreed plan was not to have them fighting at the end of the race and potentially risking the 1-2.

In other sports that would be seen as a rigged outcome and so it should be. This will drive a wedge between driver and engineer and create more friction between them if McLaren don't have the right answers for Norris.

They wouldn't have allowed that this is the outcome they wanted

Really strange decision from McLaren to undercut themselves, presumably without explaining the need for Norris to relinquish P1 beforehand.

Also good to see Max driving like a terrorist again now he no longer has the fastest car.

Indeed with even his engineer telling him he was being childish.

Actually if it wasn't for the Mclaren debacle and Verstappen radio traffic it would have been a rather dull grand prix

They wanted to make sure Norris couldn't be undercut by Hamilton, Piastri was far enough ahead that protecting Norris was the priority for the 1-2. I'm not sure if we necessarily get every radio message broadcast, the ones to Piastri with "don't worry about Lando" meant that half of the garage definitely knew what was happening. His engineer did refer to Sunday morning meetings, ie this was a pre-planned scenario and shouldn't need Norris to have had special notice before he pitted.

It was a mess from McLaren as it should never have gone as far if they had not enabled Lando Norris to undercut Oscar Piastri.

A very messy race from Red Bull. They did not give Max a very good strategy during the race & left him having to fight back against other drivers on a track that is tough to overtake at.

The incident with Max & Lewis I thought was a racing incident.

Worth noting: We don't know the full story. There were clear references to team meetings where things like this must have been discussed and rules agreed.

The problem was how McLaren handled the situation. It needed a clear order early on.

I think it's fairly obvious that there will have been a meeting that morning along the lines of 'whoever is leading at lap x gets to keep the lead'. Back in the Hakkinen/Coulthard days it was often whoever led at the first corner.

Norris got the undercut to protect him from Hamilton. With hindsight he probably didn't need the protection, but the team don't want to take a chance and potentially screw up a 1-2. They've dropped enough points recently by not being aggressive enough on strategy, especially at Silverstone.

Norris was just proving a point. Partly to make it look like he gifted the win to Piastri and partly hoping that if he was far enough ahead of Piastri the team might shrug and decide to let him keep the lead.

As for Verstappen, it's amazing how quickly he's reverted to type now he doesn't have a car that's two seconds a lap quicker than everyone else's. But, yet again, he escaped a penalty so why would he do anything different?

If it was agreed beforehand then why did Norris make such an issue over it?

Anyhow most importantly its good to see a team that can now take on Red Bull on merit and run them to the line and for sure McLaren have two drivers who can do that unlike RB who weirdly gave Perez another year when there are far more capable drivers available.

Red Bull will be more competitive at Spa, as it is fast and flowing, which suits their car a lot more than the Hungaroring did.

In a few news sites on the Internet, it is rumoured that Perez will be dropped during the summer break, and replaced by Daniel Ricciardo, with possibly Liam Lawson called up to take the spare seat alongside Yuki Tsunoda.
