The iconic "St James' Park" lettering on the side of the ground has been removed to make way for new "Sports Direct Arena" signs.
It will be interesting to see what the reaction of Newcastle City Council is to this as they had previously demanded that the sign was to be kept.

Can anyone explain to me why an owner shouldn't take any steps he likes if he thinks it will increase the value. After all, he owns it.

the name has been st. james' park for many, many years. it is a vital part of the club's identity, and i would much rather have that than money for a fake name.

Tradition and identity I suspect. TBPH though, even though the name changes officially (by law), it doesn't mean that the name SJP won't live on.

Not being connected with support for any team in the Europa League, I can see that there for teams in the current round of play who are not exactly what you would call "poor neighbours" in European football. This may well be due to teams entering this competition now from the Champions League, but there are some very well known named teams playing in this week's fixtures in the Europa League.
Of course, it is not the premier tournament, which remains the Champions League, but it still is a tournament to test the ability of some very good sides. You do not need to listen to what Sky Sports have to say on the matter, as they will only put forward the type of publicity to attract viewers to the matches that they wish to promote. Use your own judgement to decide what match will be of interest to yourself.

Unfortunately Paul it is only in this country that the Europa League is viewed in this way. In every other country it is viewed for what it is. A very worthwhile competition to be in and to try and win. The UEFA cup has a long history and should not be disrespected in this way
Totally agree. Nostalgically, the Cup-Winners Cup (much derided by pundits when the Champions League was being created) was always said to be the toughest of the three competitions to win, because the entrants were all by definition successful in knock-out competitions. It is the modern way for managers to sneer at the competitions they have decided not to focus on to excuse their eventually not winning them. And I am certain that Ferguson will be up for the Europa this season, as he is less likely to win anything else.

Portsmouth now seem to be in severe financial difficulties as the gas and electricity companies are threatening to withdraw power supplies to the club and the club captain has not had the urgent scan on his injury as it is said that the club cannot afford the cost.
If Portsmouth were to go into administration for the second time in two years, will the FA be far more draconian with their punishment than just another ten point deduction.
Matters have not looked good since the Russian owner was connected with fraud in a Lithuanian connection.

I love Kammy. Surprised Warnock has accepted a contract until just the end of the season, a big ask to get us in top 6. Should make todays game a lot more intresting anyhow.

In other news, Everton's chances of reaching a second Final in four years are looking better. Both Manchester clubs are out, Chelsea are facing a Replay away and Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham all face ties against awkward and/or unknown opposition just to reach the Last Eight

My 2 housemates + one's boyfriend just came to see if I was ok.... They were just subjected to about 100 minutes of "NOOOOOO" and then in the last 50 or so "YESSSS GET THE <bestnotsaythiswordonhere> IN".
Leeds 3 - 2 Doncaster. New lad Rogers sounded good, until he got knocked out and concussed. Played 10 minutes for the whites and then got stretchered off and taken to hospital, he can't remember the incident.
Warnock gave the half time talk after watching from the stands, and gave a very solid post match interview.
Now if only Bates, Harvey and (hides from backlash of the other Leeds fans on here) Lorimer could bugger off leaving us with a board that care.

Once again the Police this time British, are looking for 11 missing Arsenal players, who have twice in three days Gone Absent Without Leave. They have helped Sunderland by scoring twice for them.
The Police are concerned expecially as Arsenal's next three games sees them play at inform Tottenham whom they have already lost to this season, then Liverpool whom they have lost to already this season and Newcastle whom they were lucky to get a draw with. The dodgy Month oso historically linked with Arsenal November has been changed to September October, December, January, February & March.
