Sir Alex Ferguson made 11 changes (as expected) from the team that played Chelsea, for an away Carling Cup tie on a ground where many fierce encounters had taken place over the years when these two teams were playing in the same division, but even with this fact in mind, Michael Owen (2) and the ageless Ryan Giggs scored the three goals that settled the match in favour of United * ( *That's Manchester United....in response to SS4....and his statement above.)....and I do not support them!!!

Shrewsbury had taken the lead through a James Collins header while Mark Wright had earlier struck a post, but goals from Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yossi Benayoun eventually turned the game around for Arsenal.

And finally, a shock result for the forum members in "Salmond-land".....

Aberdeen 3....East Fife 3.....(East Fife win 4-3 on penalties)

In this Scottish Communities League Cup match, East Fife took the lead in the 31st minute through Ryan Wallace, but Rory McArdle headed an equaliser 4 minutes before half-time. Darren Mackie then scored to put Aberdeen 2-1 up, but Matthew Park put East Fife back on level tems and Robert Sloan then put East Fife back into the lead but with the match almost over, Aberdeen were awarded a penalty, which Rory Fallon converted, to leave the score at 3-3. No futher goals were scored in the extra-time period and the match went into the "dreaded" penalty shoot-out. The hero of the night then appeared, as the East Fife goalkeeper, Mark Rogers, saved three penalties, which went 4-3 in favour of East Fife.

When I turned on 5 Live this morning I heard the presenter talking about Shrewsbury goals and my heart leapt. We couldn't have, I thought......but thank God, we must have turned it around or there really would be fireworks coming from one particular poster this morning!!!!

As well as Arsenal winning it was also good to the Spuds dumped out of the cup after 120 minutes of football and 20 minutes of penalty shootout they lost 7-6.

Not all "big-team" managers are secure in their jobs

Inter Milan, one of the better known clubs in Europe, have just announced that they have sacked their manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, after only five competitive matches in charge. They have lost four of these matches.

The club has had a disasterous start to the season culminating in the Champions League loss at home to Trabzonspor (who only came into the competition when Fernebache were thrown out) and then losing 3-1 in Serie A to newly promoted Novara at the weekend. They currently occupy 17th place in Serie A, with only one point out of a possible six.

Whilst the matter of speculation is rife, does anyone consider that "The Special One" will persuade Neymar to sign for Real Madrid?

Rumours that Brazilian superstar Neymar has under gone a medical with Spanish giants Real Madrid seem to be unfounded and have given fresh hope to Manchester City and Chelsea who both have designs on the Santos striker. Neymar had been expected to sign a pre-contract at the Bernabau this week as a prelude to becoming the newest addition to the latest version of the Galacticos in the summer of 2012. This alleged medical was seen as cast iron proof that the transfer was a done deal.

Shame really, I like Madrid and I wish them well for the season. Getting fed up of Barcelona winning all the time, though it was rather amusing when the Madrid players dropped the cup on the open top bus and the driver went straight over it!!
