It's not just the Carling Cup that Sheffield Wednesday made a mockery of, now it's the Johnstone's paint trophy last night at Bradford where we lost 3-1 on penalties.
To stop sides putting out a complete reserve team they are required to play 6 of the players who played the last league game, which Wednesday did. However in the 2nd minute we made a substitution and then just 15 mins later we made out last 2 substitutions to make it a very weakened team.
I can understand where Gary Megson is coming from even though it makes a mockery of the competition as last night was our 8th game in the first 24 days of the new season!

Maybe it's time to let teams opt out of competitions they don't want to take seriously.
Then if they do enter they have to play a strong side.
Thing is a lot of teams probably like the chance of giving the fringe players and younger players a bit of game time so probably would still enter

I don't think any team would choose to opt out, what with the increased revenue from televised matches and the like.

They have paid £6.2 million to the Turkish champions Fenerbache for 28 year old Brazilian full-back Andre Santos to boost their "defence".

Redknapp's just said that he reckon Hutton will sign for us as he's in Birmingham, earlier there was talk that he may sign for Fulham.
Jenas is a loan deal apparently but apart from that nowt. I'd have taken Hargreaves to be honest, don't you reckon he would have been worth the risk especially on a free?

I'm too broke to go regularly (I'm unemployed atm). I'd have taken Hargreaves, we could have used him in the cup or as a sub in much the same way we used Pires last season. Did anything come of Palacios (no doubt badly spelt!)?

No, Palacios went to Stoke I think - apparently Crouch is going to sign for them as well. I tell you what - Ferguson did his business the right way - nice and early, all done and dusted. This suspense is killing me :grin:

Well, late moves by Arsenal managed to ensure that this transfer did go through before the deadline. I think a four-year contract was offered.
David Moyes later said that Arteta had spoken privately to him about the matter and pressed his case for a move to Arsenal.
So, its one Spanish midlfielder out and one Spanish midfielder in at The Emirates.
Well, all I can say is that it is good to see that some clubs have managed to buy some quality players on deadline day, something which Newcastle have, yet again, failed to do.
I should imagine that this doesn't come as a surprise to most fans, again it is a case of Mike Ashley and co being dishonest. We haven't spent a single penny of the 35k from the Andy Carrol transfer if you count the incomings from selling players like Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and numerous others during the window. In fact Ashley has gained more money in the transfer window than he has spent.
So, after all this Alan Pardew is left to pick up the pieces. Despite whatever gloss the club tries to put over it, we haven't got a good enough squad, our sole hopes in attack are Shola Ameobi (usually injured or being a nuisance), Leon Best (despite a good game against Fulham he tends to be a bit iffy), Demba Ba (hasn't made a good start to the season), Sammy Ameobi (nowhere near good enough to play in the Premier league week in week out) and Peter Lovenkrands (when did he last score???)
Mike Ashley needs to face up to the fact that his squad is not good enough or big enough for the Premier league, if he doesn't want the club to do well or is naive enough to think we can compete with a squad like this, he needs to sell up, NOW.
I think I can speak for all the Newcastle fans in saying that we are furious at how the club is being run.

It is ridiculous. They have had three months to buy one decent striker and I mean one that can score goals - seemingly not Demba Ba at the moment.

Give the bloke a chance! One start and one sub appearance in the League so far. I watched him last season and believe me, he *is* a proper striker.
And he's assisted one of your three League goals this season.

It isn't really Pardew that lied, it was the board, you can't trust them. Pardew has no power over the signings, he simply chooses the starting XI with the players he is allowed to buy.

I'm willing to give him a chance, and I have no doubts that he is a good striker, but he seems to be struggingling to find his feet at the moment - and that is always a worry. Particularly when we have had experience in the past with buying quality players like Albert Luque, who simply haven't produced in a black and white shirt.

On a brighter note, Obertan and Cabaye look like decent prospects. Obertan has pace and the skill we have been lacking in recent years and Cabaye delivers crosses well and is willing to shoot from distance.

No, just my own strange language, corrected it into English.
As for Aston Villa, they have lost a few good players, and the haven't managed to replace them yet. They have a quality attacker in Darren Bent.
