Since both teams had won their first match of the season by 4-0 scorelines, I expected goals in this match....and was not dissapointed. Manchester City seem a much stronger unit than they did at the start of the previous season. Bolton Wanderers should take heart from the fact that they have scored 6 goals in their opening two matches.

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE EMIRATES

The saga of 24 year old Samir Nasri took a further turn today, as although he trained with the Arsenal squad this morning, he will not travel with the team for the second-leg of the Champions League qualifying match against Udinese.

Instead, later today, he will attend a medical, as Arsenal and Manchester City have concuded terms for the transfer of the player. If the medical proves succesful, he will then negotiate his personal terms. It is said that he will double his salary if the transfer to Manchester City goes ahead.

I heard that, although Mancini at Man City was interested in swapping him plus some cash for Tevez. I was just checking the results and table for the Blue Square Bet North league and was amazed to find a team from Hertfordshire in there...Bishops Stortford (who are currently bottom of the league).

Where do they draw the line between north and south in this division? It is going to make for some long distance away matches this season for Bishops Stortford.

The simple reason why Bishops Stortford are in the Blue Square Bet North is because of Rushden & Diamonds folding during the summer, Southport getting a reprieve and Bishops Stortford are (incredibly) the most northern team in the Blue Square Bet South so they got transferred to the North

.......how then do you view Aldershot? West Ham United had the home advantage tonight against a team of a lesser division....(Division 2 in fact).

Aldershot had not scored a goal in their last three matches, prior to tonight, and have never won a single game in this competition since they were reformed in 1992, until tonight.

This was the biggest upset of tonight's matches in the Carling Cup.

I really think it's time for The League Cup to bite the dust as nobody seems to take it serious or even want to be in it unless you stumble into the semi finals.

Take my team Sheffield Wednesday, we are a league one side who went to Blackburn last night and we played a virtual reserve team! Years ago any team from the lower leagues would have played there best team and really gone for it rather than play the reserves and be glad to get knocked out.

It's a shame really as it's the only major bit of silverware we have won in around 80 years back in 1991 when we beat Man U.

I really think it's time for The League Cup to bite the dust as nobody seems to take it serious or even want to be in it unless you stumble into the semi finals.

Take my team Sheffield Wednesday, we are a league one side who went to Blackburn last night and we played a virtual reserve team! Years ago any team from the lower leagues would have played there best team and really gone for it rather than play the reserves and be glad to get knocked out.

I don't think it needs to be scrapped altogether but to follow the lead of the JPT and make it a lower league competition.

The match was played in the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The match was evenly contested up to half time, despite the goal by Messi, but the second half showed the strength in depth possessed by Barcelona. In the second half, FC Porto should have had the chance to equalise when Abidal (who still seems to have not got over his problems of last season) tripped Guarin in the penalty area. Fabregas came off the bench to score his goal. FC Porto eventually finished the match with only nine men on the pitch, due to the late sending-off by the referee of both Rolando and Guarin.

This match shows how much stronger that Barcelona have become as a team over the last three years, with judicious signings to strengthen key positions. Their midfield talent is the envy of all their rivals.
