Including the fans who own Exeter and Wimbledon?
yes - perhaps less of a bond but still a good behaviour bond.
And would it apply to the director of a club or the owners - Morecambe's owner isn't a director - if it's the owners it might well just bring forward the problems because if you can't afford to pay the wages you aren't going to be in a position to pay a bond. And that's before we get into what happens to that money before and after the "bad behaviour".
I don't care about the shenanigans behind the ownership. Everyone involved in the consortium to buy should be disclosed publicly, along with thier business history, dealings, business performance and records ( including insolvency, administration and delays to filing) along with the history of any past involvement with football at any level. Frankly they should also have to declare if they have ever returned a library book late!

As for the money - give it to the fans group to help them run the club when the inevitable happens and they have to take over. We are the ones who invest time, money and effort in supporting a club for years and is us who often have to pick up the mess when these chancers finally do one

Why are you sticking up for these people?
It's called the Owners and Directors Test and it's easy to look up and see what's involved.
everyone knows it as the "fit and proper" test regardless of what the dull FA blazers call it.

Maybe, but I doubt there is anything that can be done that allows a rogue owner to actually be removed.
there is lots that can be done. The FA haven't the balls to do it. Much easier to punish fans than suits.

Saved your club? Well done. We will now demote you, dock loads of points, make you change your name and play in a town miles from your base.

Messed up a club as an owner? Behaved in a vastly unacceptable way and ruined a club? no problem. Fancy another go?

Pointing out that your ideas are flawed is not defending rogue owners. My club have had our share of them.

Go on then, give us realistic proposals. How is an owner forced to sell up?

Fans are more than happy to have these owners as long as the money keeps flowing.

I have never advocated for a forced sale. I don't think you can "force" a sale - well not in a way that isn't taken out of the Stalinist playbook! Actually that might have some attractive qualities!

I want regulation to stop these chancers getting hold of clubs and harsher punishment for those who breach the rules. I want those punishments to punish, harshly, the individual/controlling mind and not the "club" or the fans. At the very least after one such incident you should be banned from football for life!

You can also make the regulatory environment for chancers, sorry fit and proper persons, harsher, especially in the event of failure or transgressions of the rules. You can make the environment so onerous as to make the whole thing "boring" and not worth the hassle.

But we all know nothing will happen. This guy at Wednesday could move onto another club tomorrow and do the same. That isn't right. I am sure you know that.

PS the Football League carry a public Register of Directors on thier website which shows names and responsibilities of people at the top of clubs. it should go further and show a lot more data imo but it is a start I suppose.

PPS - after what has happened to my club I despise chairman and directors. I start with a presumption of guilty until proven innocent so might not be the best person to discuss this with. I can get very Marxist about this!

Fans are more than happy to have these owners as long as the money keeps flowing.
only the idiots!

Working on the assumption that football clubs with directors are just a business, governed by the same strictures as other businesses and subject to the same national overseeing bodies governing strictures, are there precedents in the Stock Exchange that will insist that all companies do what you propose in regards to the amount of freely accessible data?

This!!
As a Wednesday fan myself, part of me actually hopes we do go under as it means Chansiri will get little if anything back!
Under the current football rules, if Sheffield Wednesday do fold, what will the EFL do with regards to the Championship fixtures that have already been drawn up?

As far as I know it would be a 23 team championship, 44 games total.

I would add it is being reported (BBC) that the EFL are concerned in terms of the ability to complete the season. Link added to article

"The English Football League is increasingly concerned about Sheffield Wednesday's financial situation and their ability to fulfil their Championship fixtures this season, the BBC has been told."

Aside from anything else, I doubt he would have any success in providing the proof of funding that would be required.
But we all know nothing will happen.
The EFL have tightened things up in the last couple of years, and the independent regulator may also change things.

Really? I don't hear of Chelsea or Manchester City fans complaining about financial doping and cheating at their clubs. Same with Leicester.

We (AFC Wimbledon) lost to Luton last night by conceding an own goal late on. Have to be honest, we didn't deserve anything after a pretty poor effort up front. However, one consolation is that at this moment in time, we have the leading goalscorer in League one!

To be fair, I don't think we did either. It was a really disappointing performance and it says something that our man of the match was awarded to a central defender. Nil-nil would have reflected what both teams deserved. Still, top of the league...!

Top scorer: OG.

I know plenty of City fans who have been uncomfortable with their apparent ways of working for a long time.

And still happy with the league titles and cup wins?

I think in general terms they feel less connected to their club and increasingly indifferent to what happens on the pitch. (With the exceptions of games against United)

Just imagine if all the top echelon (Premiership and EFL) clubs were solely fan-financed with no similar money input from their respective league bodies, the salaries that could be offered to prospective players would be far less than those players could receive in countries where clubs have financial wherewithal as at the present moment in time. TV rights chargeable at the current rate would suddenly come to an abrupt end and be replaced by those of miniscule value.

There is a very interesting new Amazon series on Birmingham City since the new ownership took over, heavilly focussed on Tom Brady's involvement. The first episode showed Brady giving some very accurate comments about Wayne Rooney, and his poor work ethic. The filming did show Rooney in a very poor light, definately not an articulate or inspirational figure, and not giving the impression that he is a cleaver or adaptive coach.

The series is very well filmed and edited and well worth watching.

I see Plymouth are still struggling to recover from their Rooney experirnce, starting the season with a 3-1 home defeat.

The comments tie in with observations from multiple other sources, from Rooneys time with Birmingham and Plymouth.
It is telling that Tom Brady would make that observation from his first meeting with Rooney, it was interesting the Brady, and his party, we obviously at the training facility well before Rooney arrived. While he may not have extensive knowledge of Football, Tom Brady was a top level professional athelete for over 20 years, with extensive knowledge of how to prepare for and recover from games, and injuries. That knowledge on performance, preperation, recovery and nutrition is the main focus of his role with Birmingham City. Brady also has a minority ownership of an NFL team, where he willalso be ading the team with his specific knowledge of American Football, it's players and coaches.

There is a massive contrast between Rooney and the current Birmingham manager, Chris Davies, who is university educated and has a 20 year background of coachong at a professional level, moving up from analyst roles to finish as assistant manager at Tottenham before taking the Birmingham role. Davies sounds much more tactially aware, is able to adapt the style of play to suit game circumstances, appears to be more involved on the training pitch and have a much better work ethic. Also Davies is greatly more eloquent when speaking to groups or interviews.

So you don't know the comments were accurate, you just believe them because of the source. Which is fine but don't give them a status anything above the opinion of one person about another.

Like information on any subject, the credibility of the source has a bearing on the weighting given to the comments, likewise, if similar comments are provided, independently, from multiple sources it does add to the credibility of the comments made. Therefore, in the case of Rooney, there is no reason to doubt the validity or accuracy of the comments about his work ethic.

but he could be involved in a consortium buying another club. He could be inserted as the controlling mind at any point. That shouldn't be possible. He should be banned from football for life. He shouldn't even be allowed to stop and watch a park match he comes across on his way to the corner shop for a pint of milk.

He will eventually leave scot free having just about destroyed an historic football club free to try again tomorrow if he likes.
The EFL have tightened things up in the last couple of years, and the independent regulator may also change things.
hopefully - but I state again that it is easier for the blazers to punish the fans - and there is more that needs to be done. There has to be meaningful and harsh personal financial punishment for transgression of the rules
Really? I don't hear of Chelsea or Manchester City fans complaining about financial doping and cheating at their clubs. Same with Leicester.
I maintain: only the idiots. ;) Chelsea.................
Any opinions on Messrs Senior, Galvin and High, all latterly of Halifax?
if they played for Barnet they made no impression!

Apart from the club seeming to having shut down all of its operations, there is no change.
thanks - there was a lot of stuff on the socials yesterday saying: "it's gone" "That's it" "it's over" etc but no official word - We know (from our clubs) it isn't over until it's over and not even then sometimes!

If the worst happens you have to save what you can and start again under fan ownership.

New Brighton were, until recently, the only post-war FL club no longer in existence in either their original or phoenix form.

However a new club, New Brighton Town, was formed in July 2023 and currently plays in the Wallasey Sunday League, narrowly missing out on promotion from Div 2 last season.

I believe they play on one of the pitches at Harrison Park where the 1993-2012 West Cheshire League club used to play (see attachments), but I may be wrong.

Darlington 2 v Chorley 3

Defeat from the jaws of victory. Chorley reduced to 10 men and Darlo leading and in control at half time threw it all away by full time.

Sigh: Football is back. Messing up my weekend since 1985

Braintree 3 - 0 Halifax

After a rare positive pre-season, down to earth with a bang, getting humped by the favourites for relegation. 1-0 down after 3 minutes. 6'4" goalkeeper out jumped by a Braintree midfielder for the second. 3-0 down in the second half. New centre forward had an injury time penalty saved.

Yeah, sigh, football is back

And two of my kids made an 8 hour, 440 mile round trip to see it. At least I'm not that daft any more *

* I would have gone if I could. Of course I would, its the football isn't it?

After surviving in the Championship last season, contrary to the pundits' expectations, I fear this one will be a struggle for the Yellows. Not really surprising as we are a (relatively) small-town team up against clubs with parachute payments, much larger support thanks to being from huge cities, and celebrity owners with stacks of cash. Still, it's only one game!

Only 4 of them this season, and one of them is very much up against it in terms of Profit & Sustainability rules.

Peterborough United 0 Luton Town 2

Two matches in and 6 points on the board already, without looking anything like the finished article. The first win against Wimbledon was a rather disjointed performance and the first half on Saturday continued in the same theme. The second half was a big improvement but there should be more to come.

I haven't posted about Bristol City's result against Sheffield United in case it turns out I was hallucinating.

But if we are that clinical and the new goalkeeper here as injury cover (Radek Vitek) is that good, then for once I wish I had a ticket...
