The Gingerbreads aren't much better. Lost 5-1 at home today, to Long Eaton Utd. For the first time in our 150 years we're facing Step 5 football next season.

Certainly in the modern era the club haven't played Step 5 football but it's difficult to work out what level the leagues were that they played in 80+ years ago when such steps didn't really exist. Grantham and District, Midland League etc.

Yes, good point. Nevertheless the club has been living on borrowed time at this level for a number of years now. However, with a new manager appointed there is hope. That said, they need to win ten from the last eighteen games to survive.

Leeds won a tough match away at Derby; a fiery encounter. Leeds top again with Sheffield Utd dropping points and Burnley (playing currently against Middlesbrough) unable to catch us. Away form has been a challenge for Leeds this season, but that’s two away wins on the bounce now.

Trafford FC play in the Northern Premier League - Division One West and are as far as I recall are managed by Karl Marginson who managed F C United of Manchester from June 2005 to October 2017. Has that club been looking to appoint a new manager?

If the word on the street (Oatcake Fanzine) is anything to do with it, Walters is likely to appoint Rooney. I think the words “Walters & right choice” shouldn’t be in the same sentence. One thing is certain, whoever gets the poisoned chalice Stoke will say something along the lines of “this is the manager we’ve always wanted….. again”.

He did a hell of a job at Cov but things just went stale in the end so a change was probably best for all concerned. He also last week declined the offer to speak to Millwall so maybe knew the Potters job was about to become vacant (when isn't it!) it has to be better than some EFL journeyman topping up his pension plan or an unknown from one of the Baltic States. All in all you could do a lot worse.

The Northern Premier League, for example, nornally updates its fixture page with times of pitch inspections and then when they have taken place. Blyth Spartans vs Ashton United in that league is already OFF this morning.

If the weather and pitch conditions has been or is forecast to be exceptionally bad, some games may even be called off the day before, particularly so if there's little chance of the match being on and the away team would be travelling a significant distance to play the fixture.

Participating teams also provide updates on club websites / social media, etc

I have been out of touch with football for a couple of days. When did the non-league leagues make the first announcements?

Halifax v Fylde on Wednesday was called off on New Year’s Eve (waterlogged pitch), rearranged for today (neither team still in the FA trophy so both available), and then called off again yesterday (frozen pitch)

Gone are the days when Fort William FC (when in the Highland League) when some of their defeat scores matched those produced by local rugby union teams. Eventually, when the crunch came, they were unable to play the 2021/2 season play-off matches and were relegated (aka "put out of their misery") and joined the North Caledonian Football League, still retaining Claggan Park as their home base, which is easily waterlogged in periods of rainfall.

For old times' sake, being the website member who once made match postings about then when they were in the Highland League. I decided to look up their progress this season in the hope they would at least be in mid-table, but was disappointed to find they were in eighth place in a twelve-team league, having played 15 matches, but only having 18 points. They still have an Albanian goalkeeper but I do not know when he joined them.
