I can’t accept that any sportsperson would not play their best. That is the nature of sport. Sport is a competition not a hobby. You play to win whether you are amateur or professional.

the manager isn't the problem. Too many average players, too many bad characters and too many players not giving a stuff are. Manure have bought badly, sacked too many managers, have had no plan and have completely lost their way.

They are a bang average mid table team. The sooner their fans and the media realise this and let someone rebuild the better. It will take years.

They are not ‘average’ players though, the results aren’t showing it but they are good players. ‘Not giving a stuff’ is probably the correct reason they are where they are in the league.

i am not sure - i think you are being charitable and assigning a professionalism that isn't always there. Players have got managers sacked. They know how to do that. I am sure the "secret footballer" has discussed this.

Regardless we have ALL seen it happen. Teams stop playing for a manager. To pretend otherwise is silly. Whist they don't "down tools" they DO work to rule so to speak. If you are not 100% committed to a cause it certainly looks like not playing to win to me. At the very least they are not playing for the team, the badge or the fans. ( or whatever cliché you prefer!)

Garnacho is young, skilful and is not averse to helping out in a defensive role when required.

Garnacho, Højlund, Mainoo, de Ligt, Martinez probably would.

I think the issue is that in elite level sport the difference between playing to 100% and 99% can be winning and losing. So it’s not a question of not trying so much as just not quite giving everything.

And there are a lot of players with bad attitudes.

I think the best example in that United team is Bruno Fernandes. He’s clearly a hugely talented footballer but he constantly moans if stuff isn’t going his way, throws his arms up in the air when a pass is misplaced, and often doesn’t track back as quickly as he should if they lose the ball. And he’s the captain!

But more widely with United, they’ve recruited really badly, they don’t play to a discernible style, and the players seem to regress when they’re there. Guardiola, Klopp and Arteta take young players and make many of them world class - that doesn’t happen at United.

only if they agree a plan of change, decide upon a style of play, set out a sensible/realistic transfer policy, appoint a sensible manager, give him time AND be honest with the fans about realistic expectations.

They aren't winning the league any time soon. They aren't even getting in the Champions league anytime soon. They are miles behind Liverpool, City and Arsenal.

Exactly - A mini Ronaldo - and I put a lot of the problems at United at his door. he should never have been signed, should never have been indulged and should never have been allowed to sulk around like a child.

I don't like Ronaldo and his time at united shows why. He might be a great player ( or at least might have been a great player) but his poor attitude infects others and costs managers thier job. A prime example of United buying badly.

None of them

Rashford is maybe closest, but in the wide attacking positions City have Foden, Grealish, Savinho, Bernardo Silva etc

And actually Bernardo is a great example of my point about Pep improving players. He was great when he arrived but he’s got better. And his attitude is second to none - works his socks off whatever position he’s asked to play, never moans, plays for the team not himself. The anti-Fernandes I suppose

I don't think Garnacho would pass City's strict 'No D*ckheads' policy* , but it would be interesting to see what Pep could do with Mainoo.

The only other possible player to get into the squad of either Liverpool or Man City I think is Rasmus Hojland. He has the potential, and appears to have the right attitude, he just needs focused training to be a top player, something he isn't getting at Man Utd.

FFP rules come into it. McTominay - as a player who was homegrown through the academy - represents 100% profit for FFP purposes.

So clubs are incentivised to sell their homegrown players.

They probably sold the wrong one, though - Rashford would similarly count and has had three **** seasons out of the last four, which is frankly abysmal.

I could easily look up the reason for what is going on at Farsley but others might be interested so what is happening? Guiseley and Bradford are local but Buxton is crazy and was Alfreton a simple fixture reversal?

Are they having more financial issues that led to the original club going under at 20 years ago?

I believe they have played another fixture at Alfreton not involving the home team AND have played a reversed fixture there

We are happy to confirm that following recent conversations with our friends at Buxton Football Club and The National League, that the two clubs have agreed to a groundshare at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium, for an initial period to December 2024.

This agreement will see us play our five scheduled home fixtures at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium, up to and including their fixture with Brackley Town on Saturday 21st December 2024.

It is then expected we will return home to The Citadel to fulfill our remaining fixtures. However as per league requirements we have agreed that this deal can be extended up until the end of the 2024/2025 season.

The official word is that the club have run into problems installing a new 3 g pitch. The interweb and the street word have many other rumours that one may choose from. I will say recent pictures show little progress with the pitch but i am sure it will all be sorted out asap.

A somewhat unexpected result to this Tuesday night match, as Reading had won 4 of their last 5 matches. Stockport led 3-1 at halftime.
Reading now 9th, Stockport County now 10th.

Darlington ironically are the team I’ve seen Boston play at the most different grounds. Feethams , Reynolds arena and the new place And another ground as well if memory serves me correct.

in other news, new manager for Boston. Despite promotion last season, 11 without a win and no home win since MARCH. On the fence with this one, never like a change of manager but on the other hand 3rd time he’s been sacked in OCTOBER/NOVEMBER in the National League.
