Hyde United were in second place for much of the second half of last season, until those disasterous last six matches when finishing outside the play-offs. Warrington Town were a side that seemed to grow stronger month by month and deserved their place in your league. They are currently in 11th position.

Put it like this, that in his mind the referee was not of the quality needed and this carried on until the very end of the match. When the penalty was finally awarded against the English full back, he just prattled on about the incident being nothing of note and I can well imagine if he carried that way of thought as a prospective referee in training to referee at the highest level, he most certainly be the first to be thrown off the course. The second half comments made by him were even more xenophobic.

He did indeed, as you put it very well, 'prattle on', but was he not absolutely right about the ridiculousness of the penalty? As has been said before, repeated viewing of slowed-down footage makes things look far worse, not helped either by the 'injured' player's reaction. The referee saw nothing wrong in real-time!

The penalty that was given probably shouldn't have been, but the one that wasn't given (Maguire shoving the attacker in the back having stumbled over his own feet; ref didn't give it and VAR didn't ask the ref to review) absolutely should have been.

I wonder if between the two incidents happening the VAR had another look at the Maguire incident and by the time the second one occurred the ref was aware North Macedonia were "owed" a decision in their favour??

Apparently it can't be a foul because the defender wasn't looking at the bloke he fouled, and on another occasion it can't be a foul because he didn't mean it. I'm all for having a range of pundits to keep things fresh, but they should at least having a fleeting acquaintance with the laws

Maguire, my initial reaction was actually pen, when I saw the replay I wasn't sure either way, seen them given seen them not given but certainly a stronger case than the one actually awarded.

That shouldn't take away from the standard of the team's performance though because we were very poor.

Fending off would be deliberately blocking the player from accessing the ball. He didn't do that, the striker and Lewis both tried to win the header, Lewis was stronger, timed his jump better and was in a better starting position to win the ball.
