The Rangers songbook was absolutely appalling yesterday. The really sectarian stuff that makes genuine fans cringe. Thankfully the women's game has less of the problematic stuff.

Not entirely. If it were purely down to finances then Leeds United would also be in the top three in the Championship as they're a year-1 parachute team, and Luton would have never won promotion in the first place. The imbalance is a problem for sure, but if it were so decisive there'd be no point bothering with the football at all.

And the Championship is an intensively competitive league.

The top of every league in the world is dominated by clubs with greater resources, but the Championship is more competitive than most, and a very hard league to bet on (which is my primary interest). If it was less competitive I might get the odd coupon up.

really? He seems a decent if unspectacular and a slightly ponderous defender. He seems to defend well, especially in heading, getting a toe in and in moving the ball about short in but I guess he isn't a sexy modern centre half who really plays in midfield

Who should be selected instead? 50 points extra if it is Spuds or West Ham player! 25 points for any other cockney team. ( because that is who the media always want selecting!)

They don't have an abundance of good options at CB except Varane, who is a good player when fit but that seems to be less than half the time.

They're a shambles alright, but there are few questions to which £80m transfer/£190k per week Harry Maguire is the answer. He's a weight round their neck they're fairly desperate to unload.

I'm not English and don't support Man Utd, so haven't a dog in this fight, but both sides would be better off without him.

Having big money provides no guarantees, but it does hugely improve your chances.

Not overly surprised, as the rumours had been circulating since last week. Sounds like there was a "gentleman's agreement" between Warnock and the club that he'd step aside once the club had found a longer-term appointment, but that this has happened sooner than Warnock expected. Can't be too much in the way of ill-feelings or he wouldn't be staying on for the Stoke City game on Wednesday, though it is a bit of an unusual situation. Glad to find out it isn't happening for health reasons at least.

We fans have no idea who the replacement will be, but if it backfires there will be anger. Just hope it isn't another Mark Fotheringham or Jan Siewert style shambles! My gut feeling is Chris Wilder.

If so there'd be no complaints from me. Did pretty well at WBA in this league (they were 4th when he was sacked) and got 96 points with Wendies last season.

Given the timing I suspect it's someone who either became available unexpectedly, or someone the club were in danger of missing out on if they didn't move fast. Can't actually think of anyone specific who would fit the former category so it could well be an unknown... if so, I hope it's someone closer to Wagner or Corberan and not another Siewert or Fotheringham. That's the problem with appointments from outside the usual suspects!

As usual the Referee & VAR were laughable.

I think for a defender the decision would have been penalty and would have been made much more quickly. But trying to guess what conclusion VAR comes up with is a mug's game.

VAR wouldn't have intervened because it happened outside the penalty area and wasn't a potential denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity

Meanwhile tonight Halifax went to league leaders Chesterfield. 1-0 down after 80 seconds, 2-1 down at half time and back to 2-2 with 20 minutes to go, only to concede a third in injury time.

There was one bad tackle in the match, which probably correctly got Adam Senior sent off for us. The ref also gave another 11 yellow cards and two further reds; both teams down to ten at the end and the Chesterfield manager also dismissed. God knows where they find these clowns

he spoke well in his interview - i am just surprised we went for someone who appears to be non local, not in a Royston Vasey way but I cant believe we have the funds to pay for someone to relocate nor can I believe we have the funds to import none north east/Yorkshire based players.
