Another day, another inexplicable VAR decision in favour of a “big” team. Marcus Rashford blatantly dives, ref gives it, VAR doesn’t intervene

Are the VAR officials performances monitored and if so, who by? It, as you say, there was a blatant dive, there was both the match referee and then the VAR panel to decide upon matters. The grounds of the larger clubs will have well-placed cameras to view offences from a good number of camera angles. If you know that misfeasance has been committed by the VAR officials, what recourse is available to the supporters of clubs who will obviously have not the same facilities afforded to them in which they can prove their claims of an incorrect decision. You do raise a point of VAR decisions being made in favour of the bigger clubs and that being the case, what strictures can be applies against these VAR officials, as there could well be a legal argument made in a Court of Law concerning the implications of such deliberate malfeasance.

Northern Premier League...Premier Divistion

Hyde United 3 ... Worksop Town 1

The early match problems this season at Hyde have been improved by squad additions and Hyde scored in the 18th and 26th minutes. Worksop pulled a goal back on the hour but Hyde scored a last-minute goal. Attendance of 631 today. Hyde's back-to-back wins sees them move into a mid-table position.

Hayes & Yeading United 1...Winchester City 3 (Ashton 45+2, Brown s/o 90+4; Rose 50, Lynch 55, Mlambo 57)

What a difference a week makes. Having been eviscerated 6-0 at home by AFC Totton the previous week, Winchester City were determined to bounce back and were unlucky to go in 1-0 down at half time. What followed was a major turnaround, as Jordan Rose headed home the equaliser froem a Jamie Barron corner. Conor Lynch (thankfully no relation) then put City in front before Simba Mlambo went from provider to goalscorer to double the lead. Hayes showed little danger of getting back into the match, and were reduced to ten men when Cole Brown received a second yellow card in stoppage time. Three goals, three points and one in the eye for the RMT...shame I couldn't be there, but I'll be at our next away match and there's nothing they can do about it.

Manager interview:

Other results:

AFC Totton 5...Hanwell Town 3

Beaconsfield Town 2...Tiverton Town 3

Bracknell Town 5...Swindon Supermarine 0

Didcot Town 2...Basingstoke Town 3

Dorchester Town 0...Chesham United 2

Gosport Borough 2...Walton & Hersham 2

Harrow Borough 2...Poole Town 4

Plymouth Parkway 3...Hendon 0

Salisbury 2...Hungerford Town 1

Merthyr Town 2...Sholing 1

Talking of bias towards the 'big' clubs.

I've never bothered to post in this thread before - it just seems to be too big and unweildy - but your post made me remember the headline yesterday on the BBC footie page.

Chelsea see off Luton Town

Talking of bias, had Luton won 3 - 0, would the headline writer have used the predicate 'see off' ?

EDIT: I should add that I support neither team.

That's not really bias, that is merely dealing with the situation as it was; Chelsea were heavy favourites.

There are some pretty strange penalty stats when you go looking for them. Let's consider Manchester derbies.

City were last awarded a penalty in a league game at Old Trafford in 1992. That's over 30 years. OK, City weren't always in the same league as United, but there are (I think) 25 seasons when the teams were in the same league.

If you look at the past 12 seasons, City have won 8/12 of the fixtures at Old Trafford, (plus 3 defeats, 1 draw). The aggregate score over that time period is 24:12 in favour of the visitors.

Yet, despite this domination, the match officials never once spotted a foul or other infringement that merited a penalty to the visitors. Amazing!

Meanwhile, United have been awarded a penalty when visiting the Etihad on 4 of the their past 5 visits! Remarkable!

Is this information based upon actual incidents that may well have led to the awarding of a penalty or just a statistical summation?

FIFA announce 90-day suspension of creepy Spanish FA boss while an investigation is carried out…..
From the BBC website:
Spain's top criminal court has opened a preliminary investigation into the country's football federation president Luis Rubiales after he kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips.

The prosecutors are looking into whether the incident amounts to a crime of sexual assault.’

As I said earlier, I’m not defending or attacking, but talk about being thrown under the bus. What intrigues me with this, is that how many ‘millions’ saw this live on television and it never even registered. Then someone somewhere brings up the ‘non consensual kiss’. That then opened the floodgates.

I agree it jumps back and forth a bit. Perhaps a soccer sub forum might be an idea, with individual soccer related threads therein e.g. "Hermoso kiss thing", "National League South", "VAR" or whatever else is an hot topic

Shouldn't it be Australian police dealing with it?

Spanish courts apparently aren’t limited in their jurisdiction
Principle of personality
The Spanish courts have jurisdiction to try criminal offences committed by Spanish citizens abroad, provided that:

the act is punishable in the country where it was committed;
the public prosecutor or victim files a criminal complaint in Spain; and
the accused has not been acquitted, sentenced or pardoned abroad.
I imagine the Australians will be happy enough for the Spanish to handle it, as all the key people will be back in Spain now.

The only similar case I can think of was the Paul Gascoigne one, news story here... https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.s...lt-over-drunken-sloppy-kiss-on-train-11836406

Winchester City 1...Salisbury 1 (Wright 90+8; Hedges 8)
Attendance: 507

In their third derby of the season, the Cathedral City Derby, Winchester City salvaged a vital point after going behind early on, and would have won comfortably had it not been for a superb performance by the Salisbury keeper. It wasn't until the 8th of 11 added minutes that a loose ball found Tommy Wright on the edge of the area and he fired it into an empty net.

Basingstoke Town 3...AFC Totton 2

Chesham United 3...Beaconsfield Town 0

Hanwell Town 1...Hayes & Yeading United 1

Poole Town 1...Dorchester Town 2

Sholing 0...Gosport Borough 3

Swindon Supermarine 0...Merthyr Town 3

Tiverton Town 2...Plymouth Parkway 2

League Table (Pld/Pts):

In fact, multiple people who saw it live commented straight away that it appeared to be out of order, and the victim of the sexual assault subsequently confirmed that she hadn't consented to the kiss. Not defending? I've never seen a clearer case of parking the bus.

I wonder what the reaction would have been, if the kisser was a female ?

And it's important to note that while the kiss is getting all the headlines, there is rather a lot of background to this. At the final there was the rather distasteful 'crotch grab' and his manhandling of other players, and there's history in the Spanish FA that had caused some players to decline call-ups for the World Cup. Then, with Rubiales having found himself in a hole, their FA chose to lay all of the blame on the player and that was never going to end well.

I believe he did apologise for his ‘inappropriate’ behaviour, but obviously in this day and age an apology isn’t enough.

I’m not defending him or attacking him, but the world’s going mad.
It was out of order. We all know that. You know that. You cant behave like that. It isn't 1973!

Also the world hasn't gone mad. Take a step back: What would your view be if some random walked up to your partner and kissed her/him on the lips without consent? You would be happy if they apologised? I would knock thier teeth out but each to thier own!

Next question: Would YOU kiss a woman/man on the lips like that in public without clear consent? I wouldn't. I doubt I would so so in public like that unless I was in a relationship with them.

PS: I'm not defending him, but....................

Exactly! Also behaving like that in the presence of the Queen of Spain is not a good look PR wise!

Everyone in that lineup, the players, the officials etc were in a state of euphoria & excitement at Spain's win. Like I've said, I'm not defending his actions, especially his crotch grab, but sometimes we all do something at the spur of the moment which in hindsight was maybe not such a good idea.

I'll hazard a guess that somewhere in those after match celebrations other kisses were exchanged, whether consented or not, but weren't captured on camera.

Like I said. I'm not defending. He shouldn't have done what he did.

Like the crotch grab. A stupid thing to do but nothing more. The kiss is not in that category. It is out of order. We both know that.

In my opinion it is indicative of someone who thought he could do what he liked because he was the one with the power and instead of trying to head off the issue by saying they were wrong on day one ( using the I got a bit carried away at a time of heightened joy excuse) and maybe riding out the storm they tried to front it out and have made it worse. The position is now untenable and will lead to severance, if only because Spain are terrified thier world cup bid will be impacted.

PS - I get you might get carried away and maybe hug someone but kissing is beyond that in my opinion. Would he have kissed Sergio Busquets after winning the world cup?

Like I said. I'm not defending. He shouldn't have done what he did.
but you seem to be trying to excuse it.

Surprised that no-one on here has said well done to Luton, so I will.

It'll do the teams confidence good to have a win under their belt, never mind who it was against, or what competition it was in, a win is a win.

So unlike some other team in the Premier League they have a 100% home record.

It' ll be interesting to see how Everton get on tonight @ Doncaster.

Thee will be another Premier League team knocked out tonight as Forest play Burnley.

Hope Luton get a home tie in the draw tonight.
