According to the news, Gerry Marsden of Gerry and the Pacemakers has sadly passed away today.

He topped the charts with re-recordings of You'll Never Walk Alone in 1985 (Bradford City fire) and 1989 with Ferry Cross the Mersey (Hillsborough Disaster).

Currently all of the top 4 have won 9 games (though Leicester City have played a game more). I don't think it's that abnormal, no team is playing exceptionally so its coming down to that moment where letting a goal in drops points or nicking one at the death wins you one. Liverpool have thus far managed to be better at avoiding defeat so have gained points through draws compared to Manchester United, Leicester City, and Everton.

I wonder how Liverpool's plan of action described above fell by the wayside tonight, losing 1-0 away to Southampton.

Trent Alexander Arnold the 22 year old wing back gave away the ball 38 times tonight for Liverpool. He got subbed off for Milner in the 77th minute and since he lost it 38 times he turned over possession for the full team once every 2 minutes. So now that means every minute there is a 50% chance of Trent losing the ball.

His undoubted attacking ability also helps paper over some of the cracks.

I agree entirely. Both TAA and Robertson are great going forward, but the latter is the only one I feel is of the required standard at the back.

Hopefully another right back is brought in sooner rather than later so TAA can move back to his original position.

It certainly isn't helped by the shocking amount of decisions which have gone against Liverpool this season.

I agree with this, Robertson hasn't been amazing recently but he has certainly done a better job. At the minute, Allisson would give away the ball less from wing back than trent does.

Time to put the kids out against Liverpool. Can't see us winning but hopefully they'll do the club proud.

It's quite funny considering the same thing happened last year in reverse albeit in the league cup

Why does the media keep asserting that there are only 161 places between Tottenham and Marine?? Marine may have to climb 161 rungs on the ladder to catch Spurs, but many of those rungs are occupied by multiple clubs.

There are two step 2 leagues (NLN and NLS), each with 22 clubs and four step 3 leagues (NPL, SL-C, SL-S and IL-P) each with 22 clubs (although there are currently some gaps due to clubs folding). Thus there are 222 teams below Spurs in higher leagues than Marine (minus any gaps). Finally there are 7 step 4 leagues, including NPL-1NW in which Marine are in 6th place. So we can add another 7x5 = 35 teams giving us a total of 257 clubs between Marine and Spurs.

Not really a shock, Airdrie are awful and this is the second time City have beaten us 1:0 at home this season, we lost to them in the Betfred cup at the beginning of the season. Cove Rangers beat Alloa who are a league above them and have set up a Rangers vs Cove Rangers tie. The closest to a real shock was Championship side Dundee needing a 4th minute of injury time goal to level with Lowland League outfit Bonnyrigg Rose. Dundee went behind again in extra time before pulling it back to win 3:2

At our, level National League North, the cancellations are mounting up and "the integrity of the league " is looking in doubt. Darlington are 19th in the league. We have played 10 games which is the least in the division. We have between 3 and 7 games in hand on all the other teams due to an FA cup run and our own covid shutdown. We had a month without football ffs. We are 1 point off the relegation zone and 9 off the playoffs.

Last week we were allowed to travel to Brackley (NLN remember!) to play a game.We are a semi pro club so consider we have no covid testing at our level, no training ground to secure and no easy isolation as our players have real jobs so the players and staff went from work to the bus for 4/5 hours, played and game then went home on the bus for 4/5 and back to work. How can that be sensible? To add to that we are away at Farsley tomorrow night and away at Weymouth in the FA trophy on Saturday! This cant be sensible. I wont even discuss how bonkers it is that the club can bus a whole team 100's of miles to a game that i cant travel 12 miles to see!

This cant carry on.

PS Our games at Spennymoor on 2nd Jan and at Southport last weekend were called off due to, guess what? COVID!

Not bothered by that. We are on a better ppg rate than most of the clubs outside the playoffs at 1.3

Seriously: We need to think about this situation really carefully. NLN covers the area from Blyth to Brackley/Gloucester. Should we be travelling that kind of distance for football when we are told the NHS is in crisis?
