Winchester City twice fought back against a Wimborne side who had started the season impressively. The hosts took an early lead when Luke Holmes found the net from 40 yards but City fought back and got their reward just before the half hour when Stuart Green chipped the ball over the keeper from close range. A goal from Howard Neighbour was ruled out for offside as Craig Feeney was denied by the home keeper. Wimborne restored their lead just after the hour Toby Holmes beat the offside trap but City fought back and Howard Neighbour volleyed home from 25 yards to level it. City then surged forward and Joey Briggs, Jason Silver and Neighbour all forced saves from the Wimborne keeper, with the hosts lucky to come away with a point.

I'd have thought Allardyce might have selected Ryan Shawcross who has started the season very well, though he isn't the first to ignore a player from an unglamourous club.

After two consecutive 4-0 wins, Hyde were expected to win this match and move to joint second in the table but their strikers suddenly found their ability to put the ball in the back of the opponents net had totally deserted them.

That competition is a complete joke. Under 23 teams from championship/Premiership being allowed to play in it and from the attendances the fans agree it is a joke. I believe the highest attendance was 3500 at Bramell Lane (Sheffield Utd playing Leicester U23) while only 392 people saw Fleetwood play Blackburn U23.

The only way they can improve the football league trophy is either allow sides from the National leagues take part (either just the main league, or even all 3 leagues) or just scrap the competition altogether

I can't say I'm disappointed to see Balotelli leave, although I am disappointed that Liverpool haven't signed another left back, especially as the one recognised left back in the club's first team has made so many costly mistakes in the past. Other than that, I think the additions to the squad have improved us in a few areas, but there's still room for improvement though.

On the other hand, I'm very pleased with Sheffield Wednesday's transfers this summer. Although it wasn't as much of a priority, I think another full back would have been useful. We've had a poor start to the season, although hopefully we'll find the right blend soon and start winning some games. It's early days, but every game counts in the race for promotion. On saying that, last season we started poorly and still managed to make the play off final...

Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, has been given a three match ban by a Football Association panel after being found guilty of the dangerous use of an elbow on Winston Reid of West Ham United.

Manchester United (I'm not a fan at all, this is just an attempt at analysis) would probably be best suited to a 4-2-3-1 formation. This is what France used during their Euro 2016 campaign earlier in the year, and Man Utd have a good core of French players.

When France had a 4-3-3, they struggled because no balls were entering the box for Giroud. Griezmann, their main playmaker, was being forced onto the wing. In a 4-3-2-1 lineup, France were freeer and consistently feeding in to Giroud because Griezmann, in a more central position, was able to play the ball in well.

England have been affected by this as well. In a 4-3-3 lineup, Kane and Vardy (whether on the wings or not) cannot receive balls or put them in. Rooney is no playmaker - his only good games come from a goalscoring position like Giroud's - and cannot change the game if he has no-one to work with. Having your best players (Griezmann or Kane/Vardy) shoehorned into awkward positions for the sake of maintaining a formation nullifies the impact of the side. It compromises the side's ability for the sake of keeping the status quo.

So England now have to become more dynamic, first and foremost - I hope that's what Sam Allardyce is hoping to achieve. By bringing more wingers into the team (Antonio, Walcott), Allardyce may well be going for more variation and dynamism, which certainly wouldn't go amiss in the current side. He's also brought in Jagielka to try to fix England's much-lamented defensive issues.

Back to Man Utd, who can also learn from this. They have to get the best out of their players - and it seems the Man Utd are pretty similar. In Ibrahimovic, they have a striker similar to Giroud who can work with what you give him (but doesn't create much himself). As for Griezmann, they have Mkhitaryan and Mata to be playmakers. In Martial, they have a fast and capable winger, just like...er...Martial in this analogy. Or Sissoko.

So, this would be my Man Utd team. And there's no place for Rooney:

Sadly Oldham four match unbeaten league run came to end, knowing we were winning 1-0 poor defending costs us the match and Ref didn't help as we should had two penalty in match where ref didn't get any of them.

Ah. I don't think he's up to a midfield job; he doesn't have much impact but does much better when he's up front as a lone striker. But then they have Ibrahimovic for that...

Winchester City are safely through to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory despite the weather. The visitors took the lead but Joey Briggs equalised from an angle before Ross Bottomley gave City the lead by half time. A quickfire double from Neighbour and Feeney looked to have put the result beyond doubt but Street reduced the arrears. However, City closed ranks to see the result out and negotiate the potential banana skin.
