The outcome of the Ched Evans saga will be very much interesting if only because it'll show where the balance of power lies with regards to the board, the fans and the sponsors

Of the three groups you name above, which of these would you say would be the one with the finance available to keep the club running on a day-to-day basis covering all the costs that this so entails.

Ched Evans, meanwhile, is effectively unemployable. Perhaps if he'd shown a wee bit of remorse, instead of going into full "she's a lying skank!" mode, he might have a club and be able to get on with his career.

Just a question, if you were convicted of a crime that you were certain you did not commit would you show a hint of remorse or contrition about it?

Well so far from what I can tell it has mainly been help groups who have started off these petitions with what ever club he has been associated with in this country rather than the fans themselves.

I agree there was a much bigger sign of support at which ever Sheffield clubs he was at/going to as they had some prominent people walk out over the possibility of him being signed so I don't think its going to lie at the feet of the board as you may want.

As you all know I love Oldham athletic and I be there on Saturday watching them play against Doncaster but this is become joke now, they had all day to make statement and at 4.30pm they had this to say.

Oldham Athletic is not at this stage making any official announcement with regard to the speculation concerning Ched Evans.

http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/article/club-statement-ched-evans-2184275.aspx

To be honest I don't think Oldham will end up signing him but there must be something going on behide the scene that Latics aren't telling us in which why they haven't made decision about signing him yet.

Evevn if he didn't do it, he was found guilty in a court of law. When he made the video statement after he got released from prison and said something along the lines of I know deep down I didn't do it but was found guilty of it in court, and I have now served my time and I am sorry for all the hassle and agro caused by it I feel he could be able to play again, but its just the sheer arrogance of him not even trying to say sorry which irks most people

At least one sponsor has said they'll pull out if they sign him, maybe they're seeing how other sponsors will react before making a decision.

The Oystons have never knowingly spent money on the club, even before Oyston Snr had his unfortunate run in with the law*. Nothing has changed. They were like this back in 1996 when we beat them in (what is now) the League One play-offs, promptly firing Fat Sam as manager. They're still like this now, they can't even be chewed finishing off the stadium redevelopment.

*raping a fifteen-year-old girl

As for us, I think how seriously we take the replay against Millwall will depend on what draw we get in the next round. If it's a juicy home tie I can see us going for it, and beating them, but if it's some rubbish away tie against a mid-table Premier League/Championship side we might save our legs for a play-off push. It's a shame we couldn't hold on at 3-2, but never mind.

Ched Evans, meanwhile, is effectively unemployable. Perhaps if he'd shown a wee bit of remorse, instead of going into full "she's a lying skank!" mode, he might have a club and be able to get on with his career.

Blackpool might take him then....

You cant discriminate against someone who has served their time in employment unless in certain industries.

A football club is not in one of those industries.

I believe a football club not employing him purely on basis of his conviction is breaking the law.

Nice to see Rochdale got premiership club (Stoke) in R4 of FA Cup and with game look like it going to be pick for TV that would probably do nicely for Rochdale.

Cambridge will be happy at of all clubs in R4 as they got Man Utd at home.

FA Cup Forth Round draw.

Manchester City v Middlesbrough
Doncaster or Bristol City v Everton or West Ham
Sunderland v Fulham or Wolves
Rochdale v Stoke City
Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal
Burnley or Tottenham v Leicester City
AFC Wimbledon or Liverpool v Bolton Wanderers
Cardiff City v Reading
Aston Villa v Bournemouth
Birmingham City v West Bromwich Albion
Preston North End v Sheffield United
Derby County v Scunthorpe or Chesterfield
Chelsea v Millwall or Bradford
Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City
Cambridge United v Manchester United
Southampton or Ipswich v Crystal Palace

It is very complicated but would it not be more insincere and meaningless to apoligise for something you don't feel you did? This is just an idea and I am in no way saying he isn't guilty.

But Evans isn't applying for an advertised vacancy, therefore a football club, any football club, can refuse to employ him until the cows come home quite simply and legally, by not making an offer of employment and there's not a thing anybody can do about it

Well, at the time of Ched Evans' trial, one of his team-mates seemed to think that the victim was a liar (see http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ched-evans-team-mate-brands-victim-801734 ) and he was most likely close enough to know. Add to what was seen on Ched Evans' website, and the conviction is very dodgy.

I would love it if he could find a club to play for, preferably a decent one. Unfortunately the conviction is still unspent, and will count for a long time. Unspent means that a conviction can be taken into account, although I suspect a lot of people are willing to overlook it.

Well, Ched Evans supporters' website is here http://chedevans.com/ . Make of it what you will, his co-defendant seems to think that the case is a travesty:

"Ched is one of my best friends and I will stand by him and support him in any way I can as I know he is not guilty."

Is it misogynist to admit that you find women's football tedious and have no interest in it whatsoever.

Despite the complaints that not enough attention is paid to it by the media, I for one find that hardly surprising.

Is anyone else of the same opinion ? - given the choice would you choose the Male or Female variety. :p

Obviously would rather watch the women game ;)

On a serious note I watched a game a few weeks ago and it was so dull. I think it's the play acting and stuff that interests me in the men's game, I think if they played to the rules it would become boring.

I can remember seeing the German Women's team playing Norway at Ewood Park years ago, once you get to quite a high level it isn't actually that bad. Sadly most of the games in this country and that sort of general standard is horrendous.

I watch lots of women's football, not really out of choice but because I get paid to do it. The standard is probably better than people assume.

Some countries have made really good progress in the women's game. Only a couple of years ago the WWC2015 looked as if it was going to be a coin toss between Germany and the USA and all of a sudden it looks a lot more open. I really dislike the USA's coach and the system she tries to make the team play, the USA have some very skilled wingers and Jill Ellis prefers them to try and attack up the middle, something that doesn't really work for this set of players.

Looking away from the two favourites the USA and Germany there are two dark horses in the competition that could go well. Canada, the hosts, play their games on astroturf and with the tournament being played on astro should be well suited to the conditions. The other team that could spring a real surprise are China who are a bit toothless in attack but are extremely well organised defensively and give 100% effort in chasing down every ball. A really hard working team that again may be well suited by the astroturf.

You're all up to date on the Women's World Cup now. :D

Is that a sardonic response ? :p

I'm sorry but I have an aversion to female football !!

Not at all. Knowing of your particular liking for "The Jam Tarts" and the annoyance that you must still feel being only in a lesser division to which you normally occupy, I feel that you are suffering from "sour grapes syndrome" that the senior ladies' side of the Heart of Midlothian Women and Girls FC were promoted in 2014 to the Scottish Womens' PREMIER League...:D:D

Well...where do I start, we've got a situation whereby Owen Oyston is the owner of the club, but can't hold the post of Chairman, so his son, Karl is Chairman, but doesn't like spending money, so we've ended up with short term loan players and ones on free transfers, not doing much for team or spectator moral.

An interesting situation has now come to light as it is said that both Owen Oyston the owner of Blackpool F C and its chairman, Karl Oyston, have now commenced legal action action against a fan, who they state has posted untrue serious allegations against then on "an internet forum" and are seeking a figure of £150,000 in damages.

Since it now looks to be a done deal, to be officially announced in the next 24 hours, the first named sponsor has already terminated its association and a second one now looks ready to do the same.

I heard he going to be signing a two and half year contract with Oldham tomorrow or Friday and could make his debut in league match against Doncaster on Saturday, as for sponsors also hear that Oldham are planning to get two new sponsors to make up lose from Verlin Rainwater Solutions (which name is on Rochdale Road end (home/away end) not main stand which media said it was) and Zen Office which name is on Chaddy End stand. (where mostly home fans sing in)

They may be 'planning' to get two new sponsors, the question is will they actually find two companies who are prepared to be put in the same frame as Evans

Exactly and any new sponsor is likely to be facing a loss of customers.

Surely all this should be left until Evans latest appeal/case review is decided?

Apparently, some of Evans' wealthy supporters, including some who believe that he was set up, have companies that could sponsor (or make it up to) Oldham Athletic.

On the Evans case the woman admitted in court she was too drunk to remember whether she consented or not.
The guilty verdict was on the basis she was too drunk to have given appropriate consent.
If that is sufficient to find him guilty of rape, I suggest anybody going out getting with a girl after drinking is very careful.
How many of us here have had sex with a girl after meeting in a nightclub etc after a lot of drinking. This case is effectively setting that we can be done for rape if the girl wakes up and regrets, and says she was too drunk to know if she consented.
On this basis I am supportive of him getting back into football.

Look at others Luke McCormick killed 2 kids whilst drink driving, he is back in the game with relatively little fuss.
Is killing 2 kids lesser than being found guilty of rape for sleeping with a drunk woman who then couldn't remember whether she consented?

Isn't Julian Assange wanted for much the same charges in Sweden? Even so Ched Evans seems to have more coverage (or my memory is bad)

I guess Evans is an easy target and what else is there to report on the back page? Transfer window has barely got started, no major upsets in the FA cup and few other sports happening either. I suspect it'll wear off when other news comes through and 12 months from now nobody will care

Doesn't McCormick give a portion of his wages to various children charities.

I agree with SS4, no big transfer news, no FA Cup upsets (no non-league giant killings), Evans is an easy target.

I'm not sure but McCormick is now club captain at Argyle,

Mike Tyson is perhaps a more similar case. Went straight back into boxing and also movies whilst still claiming his innocence after a 3 year sentence served.

The bottom line is that a court of law convicted him and I think we have to respect that.

There certainly was an outcry against Luke McCormick, obviously he didn't intend to kill two children but there is no excuse for drink driving.
