I wonder when the last time an official had "suitable sanctions" awarded against them for poor officiating? I reckon it's not in my life time (1988)

You are far more fortunate than I as your team plays in the Championship whereas my team holds the unenviable bottom position in the Championship North, after being relegated from the Championship Premiership last season. You will note that I made reference to their last match in my posting where I was making a comparative view as to how Dowd would have refereed the match at Hyde yesterday or even the Leeds United v Wolverhampton Wanderers match yesterday.

As I said in my original posting that was meant to be in agreement with the view that you expressed regarding the very poor refereeing performance of Dowd, refereeing inefficiency is refereeing inefficiency wherever it so occurred, be that in the Premiership, the Championship or the Conference North.

However, may I now hypothetically enquire if Chelsea had visited Leeds United in a cup match and the same number of both home and away players had been booked by the same referee for exactly the same incidents that had occurred in the match today, would you still have found fault with every Leeds United and Chelsea bookings that occurred today?

A certain Peter Robinson of Sussex seems to have been selected noticeably less (at least at Championship level) following a decidedly poor performance officiating the game between Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic towards the end of August, in which he failed to give not one but two blatant penalties to the home team. Whether any official sanctions were made though I have no idea.

A slightly contentious red card shown to Town's Murray Wallace in the first half of the game was later rescinded, though I am of the opinion that this was done simply because it was the only thing the Football League had the authority to put right without raising further problems.

One of my sillier thoughts, after watching the Cup draw and thinking about part time non-League footballers, is it just me or is there some unofficial rule that require lower non-League teams to have a postman in the team, there always seems to be postman in most teams, there also seems to be quite a few plumbers, binmen and teachers...

I see Oldham have got Leyton Orient in First round of FA Cup terrible draw for us as I prefer to have non league team but it is winnable game knowing Orient did came to our place in August and won.

I see Non league teams have done well in draw.

Postmen (and binmen) finish work early, and don't often work all day at weekends, so it's easy for them to get to training and matches. Plumbers are often self-employed so they can take a few hours off.

Aye, lol...The postie will be quite fit as well, I have observed quite a few Policemen as well(no, I am not thinking about Met Police FC) and the teacher will make a comment like 'My pupils will be watching and will no doubt take the p... on monday morning'

Another observation I made, when a part time non-League team gets a 3rd Round Glamour tie, The Sun will reward the keeper on how long he keeps a clean sheet and will send the P3 girls round for a photoshoot...

I love the FA Cup for things like this, most big teams dont care so much about it, but I still find something special about the 3rd Round and Cup Final day

Currently, about half of the Conference Premiership teams are full time, a factor in why they often do so well when promoted to league two.

The last time before last night's match that Chelsea played an away match, posting comments were made on this thread concerning Chelsea matters in that previous match, yet having visited this thread for the first time since then, I see no postings made about the standard of refereeing, bad fouls committed, etc, in the Shrewsbury v Chelsea cup match last night, as there were about that previous match.

I will offer my congratulations to the Shrewsbury players for keeping the match score to a 1-2 final scoreline.

What could play in Bournemouth's advantage is the teams Liverpool are playing before and after the quarter final. Away to Man Utd, and home to Arsenal, so Brendan might rest some of his key players.

Rooney has been known to catch the train down to London from Macclesfield, but always has plenty of people to help him get the ticket, carry his bags and hold his hand though.

I work in odds compiling and I have Bournemouth rated as the best team in the Championship at the moment (only by 0.03 of a goal, but still top), followed by Norwich, Watford, Derby and Wolves. You have a fantastic manager in Eddie Howe who is always thinking forward. I liked how two of your players got themselves booked on Saturday so that they only missed the cup match and are back on 0 for the league match.

The team with the falsest position at the moment in the table for me is Charlton. I have them rated 18th.
