Perhaps it should be expected from this thread, but there's been a lot of talk about these two Manchester United fouls at the weekend even though both players have been punished and both fouls happened with the result already beyond doubt.
But what about these two fouls from David Luiz? Committed early enough in the match that the referee's decision could have altered the result of the match. The first was bizarrely given as a Chelsea free kick, but Luiz was booked for the second.
I seem to recall a recent match involving Manchester United where an opposition player had punched a Manchester United player in the face late on in the match and escaped punishment. After that incident it was suggested the player should not have been punished as he wouldn't have been frustrated if not for an earlier incident that went in favour of United!
Using that logic can we say that Vidic and Rafael should have escaped punishment because they were just frustrated about the result which might have been different if Chelsea were down to ten men?
Of course not.
