A team who have struggled for the last 3 or 4 years in the SPL get a thrashing off a team who have been at the top of their similarly ranked league. Yes, a shocking result, but not paricularly surprising. The word 'armageddon' was banded about last summer, we were told that Scottish football needed a strong Rangers to survive. If this is 'armageddon', I can't wait to see what the good times hold. :roll:

Scottish football is a complete joke and has been for a long long time.
The general standard is very poor at best with empty stands all over the place.
Clubs are supposed to be deducted points for racist chanting.
After Celtic played Brentford last week their fans threw smoke bombs and invaded the pitch several times. They continually sang disgusting anti Lee Rigby songs and chants supporting genocidal, sectarian terrorist groups.
Within 4 days the "Ultras" were at it again against Clftonville smashing seats chanting racist songs and throwing fireworks on the pitch.
The last time Celtic were punished for home game pro IRA chanting was 2011 when they were fined £12,700 ! ( less than one players weekly wage) but it happens regularly at every single game.
UEFA should finally stop pussyfooting around with this vile club and hammer them into the ground but they won't because despite what they say (Italy being a good example) racist chants are hardly ever punished.

I think you have to reflect upon the fact that the team from Easter Road were only defeated 2-0 in the away leg and could well have felt a score reversal was possible in their home tie.
It was the very poor first half performance, when four goals with out reply were conceded, to mean that they came out at the start of the second half being an aggregate score of 6-0 down. This would have been totally disheartening and it was no surprise that a further three goals were conceded in the second half, culminating in a 7-0 home defeat in a Europa League qualifying match.

Strong rumours going round that Skrill (moneybookers) are going to be the new sponsors of the Football Conference taking over from Blue Square, who were sold to Betfair earlier this year. Blue Square were good sponsors, in fact they gave me my first job nearly three years ago as a US Sports trader so I'm probably a little bit biased, but I feel they did a lot to promote non-league football. Let's hope Skrill continue to do a good job.

Cambridge United v Halifax on 11th Aug and Luton v Grimsby on 7th Sep are the other two matches will be shows on BT channel.

Apparently they did have a sell on clause but they are dismissing the quoted £700,000 figure.
They may not make it common knowledge as no club wants to be seen to be minted when it comes to transfer negotiations.

AFAIK, Scunthorpe had a 20% clause on the profit made by Celtic, so a figure of just over half a million will be more accurate. However, I'm going from memory here so the figures may be wrong.

Oldham played in they final pre season friendly this afternoon against Huddersfield which they beat Huddersfield 3-2, Latics record in pre season is played 5, won 3 and Draw 2 so not bad record but hopefully when season start next Saturday, they can keep it up and have better season then last three season they had.

Pre-season results usually mean very little so whether it was good or bad, I wouldn't take it too seriously.
When we were promoted in 1987, we lost every single pre-season game.

The difference in ability between the lesser teams in the lowest major league in Scotland (the former third division) and the more accomplished teams in the top six of the Highland League has been proved by the fact that two of these former Highland League teams, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County, now reside in the highest-level football league in Scotland.
In the first round match Scottish Challenge Cup yesterday, Formartine United who were only admitted to the Highland League in 2009 and finished runners-up last season were drawn at home to East Stirling, who finished bottom of the third division last season.
No-one that I know were at all surprised that Formartine United won 2-0.

Crikey, the Football League starts this weekend so off we go for another 10 months or so of football. Friday night sees Sheffield United hosting Notts County in the Championship and Partick Thistle vs Dundee United in the SPL. Seeing the football season starting always used to signify the end of summer to me, it seems like it is getting earlier every year.
Hearts are already bottom of the SPL with a -15 points total. Going to be a long season for that part of Edinburgh

I note that the German goalkeeper in the Womens Euro 2013 final against Norway saved two penalties (one in each half) to enable Germany to win in normal time by the narrow margin of 1-0. Her team-mates have a lot to thank her for.

Sad news coming out of the Middle East today about former Birmingham City forward 'Chucho' Benitez, who has passed away aged 27. Oddly, some seem to think it was from a heart attack following breathing problems in connection with appendicitis, whilst others (and most official media) claim a car crash. RIP anyway.
Extremely sad. RIP.

The football season has not yet started, but the stress levels of some of the "fantasy league" managers seem to be even higher now than the stress levels of the real team managers in the four English and the four Scottish leagues...
Incidentally, does everyone steer clear of Fort William in the fantasy version of the Highland League. Their real side signed off last season with a resounding 12-2 defeat away to Brora Rangers...

It seems they allegedly owed the taxman over £130,000 from the website link in March 2013, so I would assume they owed money to other parties as well. It may be that one or more of them petitioned to try to get the company wound up or some other financial difficulties threatening liquidation.
