QPR came up with Swansea and Norwich and I seem to recall them saying at the time about how they would be the best of the new teams due to the amount of money they would be able to spend...

Just goes to show that it isn't always what you spend that matters but how you spend it!

I noted Yeovil Town have annouced record profits for period ending June 2012, which is very impressive in current economic times, where most clubs are deep in debt. Also good to see a club doing well on the pitch and turning a profit, as many clubs who are doing well in the lower leagues are running up big debts at the same time.

Yeovil Town: League One club record £53,000 profit

Yeovil Town have announced a profit of £53,379 for the year ended 30 June 2012, with turnover up by 5% at £3.1m.

It is the third year in succession the League One club have recorded a profit.

The Glovers are sixth in the table, level on points with Tranmere and Swindon, and are only two points from the automatic promotion places.

"This has been achieved in extremely challenging economic conditions," Yeovil chief executive Marytn Starnes told the club website.

"Great credit must be attributed to everyone that has contributed to this performance."

Q.P.R. aren't one of the newly promoted teams, West Ham, Southampton and Reading are the new teams this season.

My apologies...I meant to say "recently-promoted" teams...

This is what happens when you are tired and making postings at midnight..<(

Oldham Athletic 0 ... Bournemouth 1.

Awful for Oldham today <( the player didn't took up and to be fair, Bournemouth deserved their win ....EDIT: Forget about Latics penalty that was missed.

I am sure that a certain moderator with two identical letters followed by two numbers in his forum username, will be very pleased by his side winning away there, as this helped their league position at the other end to the league to that currently occupied by Oldham Athletic.

Thanks, Paul. Very pleased and points are all that matters at this stage of the season. Shame that six came from the two games with your team. I hope you beat the drop.

Hearts were 1-0 up and it could have been four , but credit to St Mirren for coming back to lead 3-1 then holding on for a 3-2 win in a pulsating finish.

You can tell who had the most supporters with the ground 3/4 empty as the St Mirren post match party made a start.:p

Bah!!

If its any consolation, you moved up a place in the league despite losing.
You leap frogged West Ham, as you now have the same goal difference, but whatever the next criteria is you must be better than west ham

I'm a Villa fan

I wanted Newcastle to win because it would have meant Wigan lost and Wigan losing is good for us

Might be better for Villa to be relegated in the long run. They will finally get the kick up the backside that the whole club needed.

Will come back stronger.

I'm in agreement with this, may well help the youngsters development to come back as better players.

As happened to Newcastle a couple of years ago. I think in the long run, especially considering their current situation, that relegation was a case of 1 step back for 2 steps forward.

Perhaps but we may end up like Wolves instead and the Championship is not an easy league to get promoted out of.

I still think our main problem is financial, after O'Neill's splurge on the finances Lerner has been justifiably shy on splashing the cash and the kids, whilst enthusiastic, need skill and experience but I think if we can hold on this season we'll do decently next season. For context we're four points off Stoke in 11th and three off Newcastle in 13th.

The Premier League has changed with the nouveau riche teams. Every club who isn't Manchester City, Manchester United or Chelsea are at risk of having their players poached and having to start again or look abroad. Holding onto Benteke, Weimann, Vlaar, Guzan and bringing in some experienced players (they don't have to the most skilful, just experienced) will define our next season - whether in the PL or the Championship

Back on the pitch, I wonder what would have happened if we had technology and gave him the red card he deserved

Indeed, I meant to say the impact on the game itself

Apologies! I'd be tempted to say that Wigan wouldn't have found a winner. I take it there has been no further updates on the injury, last I heard was Pardew saying how having him taken to hospital was worse than the actual defeat.

But a lot poorer with at least £60 Million for finishing bottom next year - perhaps wait a year then go down ???:p

Halsey and his assistants had an absolute shocker. In his defence though, Halsey's view was blocked by another player, but the assistant on that side of the pitch had a clear side on view of the assault, and could see how bad it was, yet indicated nothing!

The handball as well. No defense of the officials for that 1. Halsey gad a good view, and the assistant was on that side of the pitch as well.

Technology should not be brought in for incidents like that, but it will be reviewed by the FA as Mark Halsey has said he would of sent Ncmanaman off if he had seen the tackle clearly, but as he was behind another player, his view was blocked and so couldn't give anything

I hope John Carver also sees some form of punishment for his actions at the half-time whistle. He's an assistant for goodness sake, he's meant to be Pardew's right hand man, not the instigator of a mass brawl.

These horrendous challenges seem to be happening almost every week now. Something needs to be done to stop them - and soon.

It's Goals Scored ;) Newcastle have 41, which is second only to Southampton (42) among all clubs in 8th or lower; West Ham have 32. However, this statistic isn't as impressive as it sounds, as West Brom, Swansea and Fulham in 8th, 9th and 10th respectively all have 40, and the lowest in the top seven is Everton's 46.

Absolutely! What do you reckon the chances are of him staying with us in the summer though?

Put it this way, it'll be a Brucie bonus if he's still with us at the end of the summer transfer window. I have my doubts about Weimann's future too and would rather not rely on Gabby and Bent for consistent goals.

Always good to see a fellow Villa fan on the forum though :D

Do I take it that "Fergie time" is now a universal gift to ALL teams playing at home in the Premiership ?

No, Fergie Time is when a club are losing and need extra time to equalise; at Villa Park we were 3-2 up - playing extra time would not benefit us and instead would benefit QPR who were trying to equalise

Bad tackles, hand balls, Carver losing his head, Beasujour scoring a goal. It would be easier to ask what didn't happen at Wigan yesterday.

I was watching the game live and I didn't realise how bad the tackle was at first. On replay it looks horrific and it sounds like the Newcastle player has quite a severe injury.

It will be interesting to see what action the FA take, I presume they will do something about it and I wonder how it may affect Wigan's survival fight as that player was instrumental in yesterday's victory and also the win in the cup over Everton.

With QPR showing a bit of form, Wigan picking up a vital three points and Villa getting crucial win i've noticed that a certain team from the North East with a criminally overrated manager has slipped very close to the relagation zone. ;)

Fergie time is extra time added on beyond the alloted time displayed by the 4the official. Obviously their is incidents, subs that mean the ref has too legitimatley add on extra seconds to the game but sometimes it goes beyond that. The fact that 'Fergie Time' is an accepted event within football nowadays and it's dealt with in a trivial, jovial manner is highly disturbing but totally expected.

On this basis that he didn't even know where Birmingham was and hadn't heard of Aston Villa F.C. before he signed leads me to believe he'll have no loyalty and will jump at the best offer.

That said, i'm sure a nice 20mil in the bank will appease the Villans.

On that point, does anyone know who the current Reading player is who joined because it was the closest to Heathrow? I'm certain I heard a Football Focus reporter use it as some trivia recently but I didn't catch their name.

Pogrebnyak rings a bell (yes I did have to copy and paste the name off the BBC site)
