In fact over the last 20 years I can only think of maybe 3. one of them being Keegans second coming BUT even Dogleash Id say was not as a 'celebrity' appointment given he had won with Blackburn and at the time we were just runners up in the Premier League so why should we not have had such a big managerial name come and manage us?
Even when Gullit arrived we were still considered a team worthy of such a manager and had just been FA cup finalists the year before also.

We have been a team that has had, in the past regular Champions League football and long up runs and finishing near the number 1 spot are you trying to claim that teams who do just that do not deserve big name managers or if Mourinho goes back to Chelsea that that will be a 'celebrity signing' too?

The results on Saturday will surely give Manchester City an added incentive in their home match against Liverpool, as to be 10 points behind with a game in hand needs that game to be won.

One of these teams has now parted company with their enfant terrible...perhaps the other one will now also consider the advisability of a return to his home country.

You may very well think that, but I cannot possibly comment. What I said was that he may consider the possibility of returning to his home country....I made no comment whatsoever in the posting that I had made upon the point that you made in your posting. If, as you say he is the victim of a media witch hunt, I will cite as one example of the very recent matter of his own manager making a comment in the media that Liverpool FC were very unhappy with the comments made by that player to the South American media that he deliberately dived in a Premier league match this season in order to try to persuade the match referee to award a penalty. Are you saying that his own manager was wrong to say what he did and to openly say that the matter would be appropriately dealt with by a club disciplinary matter. ?

Statistics on human beings "considering matters" are somewhat difficult to obtain, but I am sure that the internet will give links to learned medical bodies who will have the information that you require.

That last result in the 4th round of the FA Cup seems to have given a "reprieve of sorts" to Oldham Athletic manager Dickov according to the club chairman.

However, the defeat in the league yesterday was the eighth in nine league 1 matches.....with the result that the club have just sacked him.

^^ I'm not surprise that Dickov have been sacked at Latics managers special when we haven't win since 8th December and only put up 1 point from 9 matches (from 15th December) I'm sad to see him go as I thought he was good manager as Oldham special the budget Latics are on but hopely whoever new manager will be, they save Oldham from been relegated from League One, maybe Simon Corney will only get new managers until end of season to see if he save Oldham from relegated and then gfet him contract for new season.

I cant see why nearly every manager getting sacked isnt getting a unfair dismissal hearing unless they have terms drawn into their contract to win a certain percentage of games or gain a certain position in specified tournament, and clubs can claim manager has breached contract by not meeting those contractual points.
But then most clubs when sacking a manager pay off their remaining contract so may get away with unfair dismissal as they've paid off a fixed term contract

Sturridge is looking to be a great buy, 4 goals in 5 league games now Seeing a lot of frustrated chelsea fans on Twitter that their managers didnt give him a chance.

The question is how do you measure it though. It is a team effort and it is not easy to single out players who are underperforming.

While a team can sack a manager and replace him with another quickly, if the players are underperforming, you can't just sack the lot and build a new team in a short space of time. (OK, you can, but that is asking for trouble.)

An investigation has revealed a Champions League match played in England was involved in the current and rather large Pan-European match fixing scandal.

They won't say which match it was but that it happened within the last 3-4 years.

To further quote the investigator, he remarks about the English Domestic games.

"It would be naive and complacent of those in the UK to think such a criminal conspiracy does not involve the English game and all the football in Europe."

To be honest I can't say I'm shocked, it sure would explain some iffy calls (no not fergie time either, well maybe a little )

As for the title race, well we will see... They were 8 points ahead last season and managed to loose that lead, although we were 10 points ahead of them prior to that...

Really unlucky for Villa too, especially given the "extra" minute.

Good result on Saturday for The Owls, beating Brighton with a fairly average performance. We went ahead early on, they got a man sent off for a vicious assault and got a second from the resulting free kick. It almost felt as if we were holding on at 2-0 and a man up but our defence has been fantastic recently and even though Brighton pulled one back, the 3rd goal came a minute after.

We've played far better and not won, swings and roundabouts I suppose. I'm not worried about relegation at all, looking up and hopefully we'll finish top 14.
