2-2 Dorchester Truro draw.

Pathetic, we we're in complete control 2-1 up after Jake Gosling, and Richard Logan were double subbed on.

Yet Our manager(Phil simkin), and assistant(Stuart Heath) though it was a good idea to time waste, instead of try and force corners or go for goal.

"Keep it by the corner Keep it by the corner keep passing"- Yeah real great attitude there way to dick about.

Good to see Truro not lose. I work around 1/2 mile from their ground, but have had nothing to do with the club previously, as I refused to pay any money that may of gone to Kevin Heaney, but now he's gone I may review that situation.

In case I don't have time later on today, I'd like to pay my respects to the 66 who attended the Old Firm at Ibrox on this day 42 years ago and never returned home that night. RIP 66, GBNF.

A good win away at Annan Athletic I'm sure would be a nice way to remember them. WATP. WDDWA.

A nice 1-1 draw for Southampton against Arsenal. Saints unlucky not to win but I'll take a point because it moves us out of the Bottom 3.

It's never an awful game if you get three points :p

Believe me, we was awful. The vast majority of Championship teams would have wiped the floor with us today.

Just seen the Chris Smalling's tackle on Kone for Wigan yesterday. Just incredible and I mean incredible. I thought the last man was an automatic sending off but he only booked him. So he's given the foul (which it clearly was) but gone against the rules and not sent him off. Bizarre

It's now January and Manchester United still have not had a player dismissed this season. In just the last couple of games Valenica and Smalling have had blatent sendings off and got away with it.

Also, do you know which team has seen the most opposition players sent off.......................that's right, Manchester United. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Fergie time.

Well that was expected

Referee only has himself to ask. In a similar way in which the FA only have themselves to ask in why they didn't throw the book at Fergie with the Newcastle antics, which were bang out of order.

I haven't yet seen the highlights of yesterday, but judging by the scoreline, I'm not 100% sure how much of a difference this supposed red would have made.

And if we're on about slightly below the board tactics, what does anyone else make of allegations that Manchester City are moving the advertising hoardings forward in order to stop Stoke being able to take their long throws?

I haven't seen the event yet (thanks to Virgin Media) but there is nothing in the Laws of the Game that says a foul by the last defender is automatically a sending-off offence. It is a sending-off if the foul denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity - see Keith Hackett's answers in this 'You Are The Ref' (somewhat ironic, given his performance in the 1991 FA Cup semi-final).

No worse than Stoke providing towels for Delap when taking a throw but not opponents. And that's the least of their questionable tactics.

Not heard that one before, quite an imaginative and legal way to deal with their infamous long throw threat.

Good point.

Before I start with the usual I think it is fair to point out in the interests of showing a non-biased attitude that our penalty was a little more than debatable. Silva is fouled right on the edge of the box however he falls into the box and it's given, I doubt there was intention from him as he didn't do one of them "fouled then take five steps before stacking it" and since we had been pounding Stoke all match I doubt it was a gamechanger.

Just seen the Chris Smalling's tackle on Kone for Wigan yesterday. Just incredible and I mean incredible. I thought the last man was an automatic sending off but he only booked him. So he's given the foul (which it clearly was) but gone against the rules and not sent him off. Bizarre

As already pointed out given the scoreline and the battering Wigan were on the receiving end I doubt the red card would have made much of a difference. It is however typical that the red card isn't given, the fact he actually booked the player now means the FA can't take action either (a frankly stupid rule).

The officiating was awful elsewhere too as Prattenburg & Cronies royally screwed Norwich, so many bad calls there I don't know where to begin. The West Ham penalty was indeed called correctly, however it was one of them where consistency is everything -after all how many of those shirt pulling, arm across the chest penalties are given? Norwich's first penalty shout was a little debatable, yes it was a hand ball however it would have been harsh if given (though then again they have been given in the past), their next shout was shocking though. Harry Kane was brought down in the box, there was definite contact and yet the ref ignores it - and doesn't book Kane for diving either (so what was he thinking). Norwich were screwed over with the second goal too, given one of their lads had been crushed by Carlton Cole and was down for the duration, nice to see sportsmanship in action from the Hammers...

Elsewhere, Southampton did well but were again done over by an iffy call - having scored the winning goal right near the end of the game it is flagged as offside but then the official changes his mind and says it was for a foul on the arsenal defender - who went down like he'd been shot... Swansea had a few tough calls too, though going off how they played in the first half they should have stuffed the Villians (though that could have been careful TV editing).

One thing I have decided now is while I will still watch MOTD I will no longer bother listening to the pundits as frankly they are all just stooges, they are afraid to criticize officials (remember "that" game for Man City where there were numerous abysmal calls and they simply said "he's had a bad week so we will leave it at that") Their guest pundit actually criticized the officials for the Norwich game but then Lawro and Linneker quickly go on about how "they only have one chance" and "yada yada yada, moving on" Just like last week nobody seemed to want to look at the Norwich backpass so they didn't even mention it.

Anyway, next up on our fixture list is Watford at home. I hope Mancini decides to take the FA Cup deadly seriously this season and plays a super strong team in every match. We haven't lost the Premiership yet but it would be a good idea to try and get that as either a consolation prize or (even better) a double :D (or Treble if you add the Charity Shield - I somehow doubt that works :D)

Re: Stoke

I'm not actually sure how much the whole 'we can only score from a throw-in' is relevant still, they have moved on, and Rory Delap doesn't get much game time at all these days, just thought I'd raise it to see the different viewpoints on it.

I totally agree with what Allardyce was saying the other day, on about how there aren't enough referees certified for the PL, and as a result fatigue shows.

Speaking as someone who as you know, supports the red team in Manchester, I'd expect Mancini to take the FA cup very seriously. It's another, winnable, trophy at the end of the day, and should City not win the league (still wide open in my view), then they could end the season trophyless.

Charity shield is a nice and competitive one, but really just a glamourised friendly in my view. Football is richer for it -it gave me a chance to go to new Wembley, but it's not a trophy in the same respects as the league cup, league, FA cup, and any continental success is.

I am a rugby referee, and if there is a shortage for a level, a referee performing well at the next level down is given a chance, with a full assessment at the next level. A good performance will see them given more opportunities to impress at the next level, and mid and end season can be permanently promoted if consistently performed well when pushed up a step.
We are not appointed more than 1 senior game per week.

Sorry, but you play to the whistle. You can have a challenge that is neither a foul or a booking, it happens dozens of times a game. As for the challenge on Tettey, if the referee doesn't call a foul, then you play on.
I see there's been an argument regarding the first penalty that you see it all the time. Maybe if it was penalised more often, it'd stop. There's too much holding, blocking and pulling going on and refs need to stamp it out.

Indeed, I agree (with fond memories of Barthez's howler) however it had seemed to be more common that someone puts the ball out when someone is down for more than a couple of seconds. I'd have considered it a foul anyway given how he landed on him, if that had have happened from a corner it'd have been called and given either a FK or Penalty.

I see there's been an argument regarding the first penalty that you see it all the time. Maybe if it was penalised more often, it'd stop. There's too much holding, blocking and pulling going on and refs need to stamp it out.

Exactly, the argument isn't with the awarding of a penalty as a foul has been committed the argument is the lack of consistency through the leagues (remembering the shocking home game between Man City vs Ajax, when Ballotelli's shirt somehow managed to stay on - then again the officials were on something that day). From my time playing (in county level) I've seen inconsistency there with the same thing, some call it a foul and others don't. As you rightly put it the ref's need to act and it should stop, it would make the game more interesting too (or at least take away that feeling of sickness when someone scores having nearly strangled a defender).

Speaking as someone who as you know, supports the red team in Manchester, I'd expect Mancini to take the FA cup very seriously. It's another, winnable, trophy at the end of the day, and should City not win the league (still wide open in my view), then they could end the season trophyless.

I agree in that the league is still wide open, after all look at what happened last season, we peed away a perfectly good lead then you guys did the same. As for this season, well there's still plenty of time and City are not much further ahead than the likes of Spurs and Chelsea.

The FA Cup is in my opinion a much more achievable piece of silverware this season, given it doesn't depend on the results of other teams games only the matches we would be involved in, if we give it our best and really go for it then we could do it.

The Charity Shield is something nice to start the season with but indeed it is nothing more than a glorified friendly, it's still nice to have some silverware no matter what it is :)

Just to add in from earlier, yes Kone was through on goal and it was a clear goal scoring chance. Added to that (although it makes no difference) is that Kone has plenty of pace and is in decent form.

Smallings sending off would not have affected the result but he's now available for upcoming games that he should have been suspended for.

Personally I think the Premier League is pretty much over this season. Losing Rooney is not a major blow for Man Utd. Van Persie, Welbeck and Fernandez are all on top form, the fire power they have cannot be matched even by Man City.

Carrick's last few games have been excellent and with Vidic back the defence looks completley different. Add all those positive factors to the fact that their players are immune from red cards, their manager immune from punishment and nice dose of Fergie time and you've got a formidable machine right there.

I just don't see Man City being able to compete with that, given Dzeko can't be relied on week in week out, Aguero is injured again, Tevez is still inconsistent and Balotelli is a maniac. Obviously I'd like to see Man City win the league as they are a much more palatable proposition than Man Utd but the title is only going to one City this season and it isn't Manchester ;)

Alas that is not careful TV editing, we were dire first half and could have been 4 down by half time. It's the main reason why I'm not overly annoyed at the level of injury time played which was just sufficient for an equaliser. Or "Fergie time" for short ;)

About time some luck went our way though. I wonder how Paul Sidorczuk's mathematical analysis regarding conceded goals by us is working :P

Sturridge Signs for Liverpool

Good luck to the lad but I'm not sure how he is going to fit in with Suarez oppose to being a cover player, maybe he will go alongside?

Probably given up now :D

Liverpool?

Cheers bud, I needed a good laugh. When Brendan Rodgers said he wanted Liverpool to finish second I didn't realise he meant in every game... Seriously though, I think if Liverpool don't sort themselves out soon they will implode, the same applies to Arsenal.

I often wonder about TV Editing and how it can give a false impression of how a match actually went.....

I wonder if it was "4th time lucky" for SS4 with regard to him actually having the courage to watch his beloved Villa on MOD :p

8,4,3,2 looks to be a normal polynomial progressional sequence in my eyes. But one has to remember that the logic of some mathematicians is seen as flawed in the eyes of others...

How else can you rationalise my support for Oldham Athletic ?

It would be quite easy to give a false impression. They have to show goals and red cards but anything else is fair game. Take some examples below

  • Show only long range shots -------------------> Didn't get in the final third
  • Show badly taken corners ---------------------> terrible at set pieces
  • Shots are terrible -------------------------------> Never really threatened the goal
  • Showing one team with majority of play -----> Said team dominated when it may not be the case

Even avoiding showing certain things can give a false impression
  • Avoid showing good tackles -------------> Dirty team
  • Avoid build up play ------------------------> Route 1 (think of Stoke)
  • Contentious decision not shown ---------> Portrays as moaners/sore losers
  • Showing ill discipline out of context ----> Ignores provocation.

In short it's taking incidents out of context. Naturally they have to do this to a point due to pressures of time and I don't begrudge them for that but they go OTT to set up the "result" they wish. In the case of our game against Swansea it was portrayed that we would get a stuffing (a fair one but the BBC should be neutral) and it was built up that way. I did not watch MOD so can't comment for sure.

edit: I could have watched MOD but I've got into the habit of not watching so I missed it

For those following fantasy football Krul managed to get an assist for Newcastle

Strangely our game against West Brom has been scheduled for 1730. I know it's not an intense derby like if it were Small Heath or Wolves respectively but I'd have thought it'd be a Sunday lunchtime game
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Looks like QPR's tactic is to stick 10 men behind the ball, seems to be working though as it's still (somehow) 0-0

QPR had better not hold out though, we don't need them getting a point!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
It'll be interesting to see what Chelsea fans make of QPR's tactics should it end 0-0. After all it's basically the same thing Chelsea themselves did in the Champions League final.

After seeing Hyde go on their recent good run including beating our near neighbours Stockport County 2-0 on their ground last week, it was rather galling to see Hyde lose 0-1 at home against them yesterday.

Still, a reality check can be no bad thing.

I guess you really hate Scunthorpe now after yesterday. You couldn't beat us, and then to rup salt into your wounds, it was Scunthorpe loanee Connor Jennings who scored for Stockport

Bloody hell QPR are winning!

As a neutral it's damn cool, as a Villa fan and fantasy owner of Ivanovic that sucks balls!

You forgot the opportunity to really "twist the knife in the wound" as you could have added the fact that Connor Jennings came to Scunthorpe United from Stalybridge Celtic...

Qpr have held for 1-0 win at the bridge. Liverpool have won 3-0 again, not bad for a team who lacked goals early in the season, to have scored 3 in last 2 games

I wonder how long it will take a certain forum member who supports a team in the Championship to come up with a most creative but convoluted piece of logical reasoning to lay the blame for this result at the feet of Manchester United and their manager in particular..:D

Although from what I have heard Rafa rested a load of players for their massive FA cup tie at the weekend...... A 3rd round tie against Southampton
