Oldham Athletic coaching trio placed on gardening leave

Oldham Athletic have placed three members of Paul Dickov's coaching team, including assistant boss Gerry Taggart, on gardening leave after a run of four League One defeats.

Taggart, fitness coach Paul Butler and reserve coach Lee Duxbury "will take no further part in the club's plans".

Dickov will be assisted by goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard, whose own status is also under review.

"The chemistry of our backroom team is not right," chairman Simon Corney said.

"I thank those members of staff who are leaving for their commitment and support in the past, but believe that changes are necessary for the good of the club."

Dickov, a former Latics player along with Taggart and Duxbury, was appointed manager at Boundary Park in June 2010 following Dave Penney's exit.

Taggart, Butler and Duxbury were brought in by the former Scotland international as part of his coaching staff when installed in the post.

He has since posted 17th and 16th place finishes in League One, while the club are currently 18th in the division, five points clear of the relegation zone.

"We appointed Paul Dickov and it has been a vast learning curve for him," Corney added.

"He has received mine and the board's support along the way because we believe that we have the right man on board.

^^ I think is good move for Latics as things do need to change at Oldham and also think that if we lose tomorrow against Scunthorpe, Dickov could be sacked or even place on gardening leave too.

It is more as a result of the previous two seasons and the now-customary fight against relegation. The decision was taken at the right time, as there is still half a season to go with which matters can be addressed.

Not so very many years ago, Stockport County were a division higher than Oldham Athletic and see what has since happened to them, with their very quick slide through the divisions into the Conference Premiership.

The track I understand is to pay for legal bills already incurred in getting the original ruling quashed.
MattE2010 I dont see how no matter what your thoughts are with the above post, Liverpool fans can be blamed for being ushered into an already over crowded area.

Chief Superintendent Duckenfield ordered an exit gate to be opened. The opened exit gate led to a tunnel marked "Standing" which led directly to the two already overcrowded enclosures (pens). In previous years the tunnel had been closed off by police when the two central pens were full, however on this occasion the tunnel was unmanned. I wonder if football would be better if pundits declared their allegiances at the start of the season. Robbie Savage for example usually has it in for us because he used to play for Small Heath, a declaration would enable people who didn't know that factoid to take what they said with a pinch of salt.

Robbie Savage is a woeful pundit, I have no idea why BBC keep him for, he has to say what he wants when he wants and if anyone disagrees with his opinion he just belittles them until he either gets bored or cuts them off, but I did have a good laugh earlier when Pat Murphy (5 live's Midlands reporter) basically told Savage to shut up and let him talk live on air

But you're forgetting the creative editing that'll make us look more woeful than we were in the second half and, to paraphrase Haig there was no other course open to us but to fight it out. Every position must be held to the last man: there must be no retirement. With our backs to the wall and believing in the justice of our cause each one of us must fight on to the end. The safety of our game and premiership statement alike depend upon the conduct of each one of us at this critical moment.

Oldham draw 2-2 against Scunthorpe this afternoon and Latics were 2-0 down in first 20 mins and had player sent off with 20 mins to go, so good point for Oldham yeah I love see them beat Scunthorpe but it ends 5 match losing run and we are now 6 points clear from Bury and Scunthorpe who are 22nd and 23rd of table (that taking Portsmouth of out it as they are 21st in table but they still got 10 point deduction to take off them so they would be bottom of LG1 when that happens)

The way the championship looks at the half way stage none of last years relegated teams are going to be promoted. Believe that every season since premiership inception at least one of the previous years relegated teams have been promoted back.
I'm looking forward to Cardiff Swansea matches should Cardiff be promoted in the premiership next season already!
