Do you ever get the feeling that referees take the **** out of your team.

Two incidents from our 1-1 draw with Solihull Moors yesterday, the first a late and reckless tackle, just look at how the force sends our player spinning to the ground head first. Then a penalty which gave them their equaliser which was actually an excellent tackle, right in front of the referee.

Finally back from a cracking weekend at Cadwell Park (photos to come later) where I had very limited internet. I log on to the BBC website to see how Scunthorpe got on at the weekend and hock: :roll:

It is reported in Italian sports circles that Dimitar Berbatov has taken a flight earlier today to Italy in order to sign a two-year contract with Fiorentina.

It appears that he flew to Italy at Fiorentinas expense but never showed up there after hearing that Fulham were interested.

A couple of big / interesting selected fixtures from the Second Round draw for the Scottish Cup, made earlier this week:

Berwick Rangers v Wick Academy
Forres Mechanics v Rangers

The former is some 320 miles from the Caithness capital, I wonder how many show up! I suspect the latter is the biggest day in Mechanics' history, will be interesting to see how that pans out!

Also of note is the Gers home tie with Elgin City this weekend in the SD3. With Elgin some 192 miles from Ibrox and well over 4 hours of travelling time away, when's the best time to hold it? Yep, you got it, 1630 on a Sunday. Genius.

In the league cup Wolves beat Northampton 3-1 at Sixfields (HT:2-1). The first Wolves two goals were lucky according to BBC WM commentators but then I lost signal so no idea on the third.

Hat-tricks from midfielder Wijnaldum and striker Matavz in a thoroughly professional team performance. Some British clubs in European competitions need to follow their 90 minute attacking game and to desist from relaxing when they go two goals up and the spectators can be given a more exiting game for the admission price that they have paid.

2 bits of news concerning deadline day from lower down the divisions.

Firstly, Bobby Grant has left Scunthorpe and signed a 2 year contract with Rochdale That means the regulars in the Doncaster Road stand no need to take their riot gear with them to matches now (yes, his shooting was that bad).

Secondly, it looks like Jimmy Ryan will be leaving Scunthorpe United and signing for Sheffield United :cry: Cracking player, and I hope that's only a rumour and not true.

Chelsea did improve somewhat in the second half, but after the comedy of errors by the Chelsea defence in the first half that was something so embarrassing to watch, it would have been impossible to have been worse than that.

After this afternoon, I starting to lose my patience with Alan Knill. Another crap display saw us lose 2-0, this time against Hartlepool. That's now played 6, drawn 1* and lost 5, with 6 goals scored and 18 against. Simply put, not good enough. Also, Knill was only able to name 6 subs out of the 7 possible.

Also, despite having good contacts at higher level clubs, he hasn't done much in the transfer market to excite fans. The squad is as bare as I've seen it in a long time, topped of by the fact we only have 2 recognised strikers at the club, following Grant's transfer yesterday. At the end of last season, he released Jordan Robertson, who did look like a good striker at this level. Grant, who wasn't the best, was still a useful player to have around. That leaves Mike Grella and Connor Jennings up front, seeing as Matt Godden has gone on loan to Gainsborough (again).

Every Scunthorpe fan that I know accepted that last season would be a transitional season, and the teams performances in the final 10-15 games were getting better, even if we were still drawing games. This season, we have had 1 and a half decent performances. The second half against Derby and the match against Norwich. In the league however ....

The next 4 weeks will be crucial for the club. We have 5 league games. If we lose 4, then we may as well plan for relegation to League 2 at the end of the season....

Paul, from the highlights I seen the referee was not strong enough to control the match.
West Ham played andy Carroll to his strengths, and the opposite defence couldn't handle him.
Then I had a little thought watching match of the day, Carroll and crouch up front for England would terrorise defences if England played the right style for them both.

Not good enough from Newcastle. We look like a tired team and with Simpson now injured we are left with no natural right back. We need more depth in our squad if we are competing in Europe.

Which Ashley didn't seem to realise; or he was keeping his cash to himself. And now it's too late :roll:.
Unless Simpson's injury is just a strain (although he looked in considerable pain, so perhaps not) we're left with a choice between and left-footed central midfielder, a winger and an inexperienced young full-back who was in the reserves until recently.
Since the start of the season our play has been slow and unimaginative. We've just about gotten away with it thus far, but we need to wake up.
