Looks like Mike Dean got that West Ham goal spot on to me, didn't it come off the Villa defender Collins?

Great start to the BSBN season for us, a 1-0 win at big spending Gainsborough Trinity.

They lost in the playoff final last year and have a team packed full of ex-pro's, we have to 17 year old debutants.

Ref, take your Hammers shirt off!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
He needs to let the fourth official take over and cart himself over to specsaver's immediately. Linesman is just as bad

Well the decision was the correct one so :/ not sure why your complaining. Rules are rules and they were followed.

Yes, having seen it for myself now - it was a legitimate goal, and West Ham should've had a penalty too. Long hard season for Villa, and I think Robbie Savage is right. #Lerner Out.

So why didn't the assistant keep his flag down? No argument the goal was not offside though.

Perhaps from the assistant's POV, it was the West Ham player who flicked it on. He was certainly over ruled straight away by the ref though.

Because he realised he had made a mistake? It sounds as if the change was almost instantaneous and play continued anyway; the players should not have been affected because the linesman is not there for them but to assist the referee, who is in charge.. Whatever the sport, I would rather see officials who correct their (inevitable) mistakes than those who dogmatically insist on persevering with them.

Yeah, his back is knacked having carried Arsenal all last season :D

As for us, why do City do things the hard way? When I saw what happened with Aguero I knew it was going to be a tough game - typical City dictates that we would throw away our excellent unbeaten home record to a newly promoted team & make a meal of the game so I'm glad to be proved wrong, oh but for those few minutes at 1-2....

With regard to scores in matches played in the very early part of the season. these must not be allowed to prejudice how supporters feel with most of the seasons fixtures still to be played.

I still remember that very early in in the 2007 season when Norwich City admittedly had a nightmare of a home match against their East Anglian rivals Colchester United and lost by the very embarrassing score of 7-1, but this did not seem to reflect their league position at the end of that season.

One thing that should be noticeable from the defensive debacle of the Manchester United defensive display against Everton was the total and utter unsuitability of Carrick to play in the centre of the defence.

By the way, Salford is on the OTHER shore of the Manchester Ship Canal and the only Reds in Salford were the rugby league side, but I am sure that Salford Council would have loved to have had the business rates from Trafford Park over the last 100 years or so in their coffers.

Old Trafford does not fall under MANCHESTER City Council's concern either.......

Last night plus the RVP transfer some up everything I dislike about Manchester United FC.

All those transfers that Man City made, all the comments about the fees and wages paid. Yet no mention at all about Man Utd paying 24mil for a player with 12 months on his Arsenal deal, no mention they are paying him 220,000k a week meaning by the end of his Man Utd contract he will have cost them over 60 million. No mention that stinks of desperation at a time when they need to do something about their defence. All that is ok because it's Manchester United.

Usually, losing managers show bit of grace and class and do an interview after a game. Even if they come out and blame the ref, bad luck or a balloon on the pitch at least they show their face. But not at Manchester United! Both Fergie and Phelan refused to speak to Sky after the game and had a little temper tantrum. Any other management team would be castigated but not Manchester United!

The arrogance from that camp is incredible. Man City's spending may be ugly to some but it's amazingly hypocritical how another team in GREATER Manchester has dealt with it.....

Amazing to see how much hatred of Manchester United there is on this forum.....I wonder if Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, etc, foster such hatred? I speak as someone with no axe to grind in this matter, as for my sins, my alliegence lies firmly with Oldham Athletic in League 1 and I have enough annual worries about the team avoiding relegation to League 2 to concern myself with the affairs of other clubs.

All I can say is that some forum members must have no matters whatsoever to concern themselves with at their own club, which enables them to have enough spare time to concern themelves with the hatred of internal affairs of another club.

However, I was coming on here to report that having "farmed-out" Fabio to Queens Park Rangers, leaving no cover for Fabrice Evra (another hated target of this forum), Manchester United have completed the transfer of Dutch 23-year old left-back Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem on a 5-year contract. Surely the current need is for a high-quality internationally recognised central defender to the squad, noting how many games both Ferdinand and Vidic miss in a season.

Grimsby Town F.C. always seemed to keep it quiet that they played in Cleethorpes, but no-one on this forum seems to be "het-up" over that geographical anomaly.

I would say they are incomparable though - first of all there isn't another professional team in Grimsby / Cleethorpes (like City in Manchester), and secondly, neither are names on an international scale that attract fans from the Far East, South America and Guildford...

Juve and to an extent AC are still quite unpopular in various quarters because of the 2006 match fixing scandal across Italy; plus Barca have developed somewhat of a reputation for not having entirely honest playing means with Busquets and his Oscar-winning dives and mass-ref surrounding, plus wasn't there some commotion when they played and beat Chelsea in the 2006~ Champions League SF about the ref's impartiality? I know Real Madrid have certainly questioned it at times.

You seemed to take quite an interest in Rangers' struggle recently... It's quite a hard job keeping up with matters at Ibrox at the moment but I still find time to look at (and comment) on what's going on elsewhere, you are allowed to have opinion son teams other than yours!

Possibly becuase a lot still believe the only reason Saurez was fined £40,000 and banned for 8 weeks was on his word and his word alone. Also arrogant comments like this don't help - 'Evra - the voice of reason as ever - saying he would congratulate true winners, but Manchester City only won the title because United dropped points' (From this post by Oswyntail).

The reason people hate Man United have been discussed to death on here. Maybe it's the rude, smug, big-headed manager, a lot of similar fans, questionable decisions constantly in their favour: Pedro Mendes' missed goal that was over the line by about 3 yards, Michael Owen's 97th minute winner when only five minutes of injury time had been given v Manchester City, Fergie Time (Graham Poll has said that if you give 2 minutes added on at OT, play 3, etc)...

95:27 is when he scored the goal.

a minimum of four minutes of injury time had been given, and that was extended by a City goal in injury time, the celebration, and a substitution. Really isn't complicated but it is ridiculous that people are still complaining about something three years on that never warranted complaint to begin with.

Possibly becuase a lot still believe the only reason Saurez was fined £40,000 and banned for 8 weeks was on his word and his word alone.

People who have never read the report, maybe.

Evra's version of events was backed up by what Suarez had told Dirk Kuyt (in Dutch) and Damien Comolli (in Spanish) who both told the FA in statements that Suarez had told them his response to Evra was "because you are black (negro)".

In addition Evra's version of events tied in with video evidence (some of which was never broadcast) and Suarez's version of events didn't. An example of this is that when Suarez claimed he was trying to be conciliatory towards Evra video footage showed him pinching Evra.

Evra also presented a consistent version of events and Suarez was inconsistent.

Even if Suarez had been believed completely his story still has him calling Evra a 'negro' which would have resulted in suspension anyway.

I can assure you there are plenty of people in prison on less evidence so maybe those who feel a sense of injustice can speak out on their behalf instead of that of a professional footballer who was fined less than a week's wages and missed out on 8 games.

When was the last time in Britain that a major football league team found themselves in the same position as Rangers? This issue was constantly in the media for weeks on end and there was the added involvement of the police and the culmination of matters leading to their current position in the Scottish Third Division. Taken all in all, this matter was far different from the normal British football matters and as such was a special "one-off" reason why I chose to look into the matter as deeply as I did, as this matter will have historical significance in years to come.

No one would deny anyone the right to hold opinions on teams other than ones own, but to be as vitriolic in print in expressing these self-same opinions on clubs that you have developed a deep-seated aversion for, whilst a matter for "letting off steam", achieves absolutely nothing. You can make considered postings that will make the same points, without finding the need to vent unbridled feelings to accentuate the point that you wish to make.

Fair enough. I trust though the 'you' in that is general and not directed at me personally! I would however say it is an opinion and if people feel the need to put it in their proses then so be it! I don't really think it achieves nothing, you might as well say it if you can!

United's spending on players in the last five years has been I believe below 5% of their turnover and City's spending has been over 100% of their turnover.

Last time I checked United also have the lowest wage budget a percentage of turnover and City have the highest.

Not exactly comparable levels of spending.

Matt, most certainly not. You always express yourself in well written postings without needing recourse to "vitriolic" terminology. That is why postings such as yours are always worth reading...:D

The "achieves nothing" point that I made was in respect to how the football club in question in such a posting will not be affected one iota by such a posting.

Rode our luck a bit (also poor finishing by Helsingborgs) but a truly great European performance by The Bhoys, second leg at Celtic Park next week, the 'promised land' of the Champions League (and cash bonanza :D) beckons for the first time in 4 years..hopefully

They're going down,
They're going:
Southend's going down!

Very pleased with the result - and thus teasing - on Monday night. Thoroughly deserved as well. And seeing Liverpool hammered made it sweeter still.

Our captain got sent off for two yellows last night. This was his first.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-D2XRpDA8oc&feature=player_embedded

How could the referee not see that dive? It's appalling.

I agree...it was the most blatant piece of simulated "after-effect" diving that I have seen in a long time. The clip should be sent to the relevant football authorities and not only should the cumulative "2-yellow" red card given to your player be rescinded, but the opposition player who dived should be charged with the full weight of football law that governs this offence.

Ah well Hearts entertain Liverpool at Tynecastle tonight - at least Liverpool minus Gerrard et al who have been rested.

Hopefully it will not be a repeat of the Spurs mauling last year in the same competition.
