Strange to see how technology that has been used in Rugby League and at Wimbledon seems to have been anathema to the Football Association, yet they allowed the use of plastic surface football pitches in English football league matches quite some time ago (my own club of Oldham Athletic being the recipient of such, with more updated technological production methods being used, compared to the earlier such pitches).

So, Sepp Blatter wants an alternative to penalty shoot-outs. I'm not a massive fan of them, but sometimes it's the only way to get a winner. However, am I just being cynical, or is it somewhat ironic that he has said this after a German team (Bayern Munich) lost the Champions league final on pens, and is asking the honorary president of Bayern to look into it? To be fair penalties are a galling way to end a big match since it's little more than tossing a coin. It just happens to be the best method available and would like to see something better although just what something better is I don't know

Meanwhile the mathematical side of me is aghast at testing goal-line technology in one game. That's statistically viable :roll:

Indeed Maidstone United's new stadium will have a state-of-the-art '3G' artificial pitch, which has been given the OK for the Ryman League, but not yet for The Football League, should they reach that level.
I have played on 3G, and it is light-years away from the old Astroturf, being easily playable with proper moulded-stud boots. Still wouldn't go in for a slide on it though!

I remember reading about this in a football encyclopaedia when I was a kid.

I think if I'd have been the losing captain I'd have been physically sick.

Personally I love penalties. Both as a player and as a spectator. The high drama they produce is the reason so many of us watch and play the sport.

I see Robert Green gets to start in goal in the upcoming friendly, personally I think it is an unbelievable decision. Joe Hart earned the golden glove for a second season in a row and is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world and instead Ole Roy opts for a guy who's appearance on the teamsheet still strikes fear and dread into the hearts of fans.

I think it is good that Andy Carroll is getting the chance to start, I still think though that Holt should have been given a chance but at the expense of whom?

I doubt Hart would play whoever was second, I don't think they'd want to risk injuring him unnecessarily.

It's a friendly, against Norway. Why risk your first choice 'keeper getting injured?
And why doesn't Green deserve a second chance? At least, unlike another well-known 'keeper, he's not been beaten by a lob from half-way or direct from a corner.

Is there really no other keepers through the league system that we need to go to the league 2 playoff places to get a third choice?
although saying that wasnt Joe Hart on loan in league 2 3-4 years ago?

Edit- was various league 1 teams up on loan until 2007.

we are not a fu8king newco! We are the same club. The FA have taken no consideration of the extenuating circumstances we have faced with a former owner hell bent on destroying us, it is alleged by others.

That would be the same man who passed the "fit and properer persons" test as set out by the FA. Will they now admit this is a joke?

F8ck the FA! Nothing similar will happen to Rangers or Portsmouth. I will bet you now. the FA will dress this up in ground regulations or something but it is basically an attack on all the fans who have tried so hard to saver the club we love.

I will take great pleasure in ramming this decision down the be blazered throats of the FA if we ever make it back to the league . In fact now it is nowmy life times ambition.

Oh and ANYONE who doesn't agree know this . Any attack on Darlington Football Club is an attack on me, my family and everything I hold dear. You are as bad as The FA and will be treated as such. I no longer care. I have nothing to loose.

The message is clear - in financial difficulties - the FA would rather you fold then try and start again.

Darlington's last match of the season was at home to Kettering Town and Darlington won this match 3-1 in front of an attendance of 1,792.

I suspect what will happen is that both the BSN and BSS will play with a 21-team set-up; I think additional promotion would be out of the question this late on. However that's all guesswork, we'll just have to see with the initial readjustment of the leagues plan (where the North and South downwards are reshuffled), due out any time now (keep an eye on the FA or Tony Kempster site).

EDIT - Actually, I think the highest-ranked yet still relegated team will be reprieved.

The so called AGM cup isn't until either next weekend or the weekend after when everything in non league football will be sorted out for 2012/13 season
