Where does the US name "football" come from anyway? Do foot and ball ever touch one another (other than for field goals - I think that is the right term?)?
Only marginally less than in Rugby Football I would imagine.

I do believe we should all laugh at Sunderland for going out last night. Looks like all their fans are in Meltdown on SMB too and the love in with Marty is at an end somewhat.
Amazing to read seeing how all season they have been saying they have better players then us and we are rubbish![]()

Nah, they've got a couple of seasons of big money bench warmers to go before Saint O Neill is on his wondrous way again. What I don't get is that no pundit picks up on it.
O Neill deserves the poisoned chalice that is the England job
‘I’m sick of all that rubbish,’ said Allardyce. ‘It just keeps rearing its head.
‘The facts speak for themselves and the perception of people that it is anything other than that are deluded. It started off from other managers because they got jealous I kept beating them. Whoever says we play that way are deluded because we don‘t. The fans get frustrated because we don’t win so they want to win something. I know how to win football matches and I know what’s good for West Ham. I can’t get away from the tag and that’s life.’
West Ham deliver a 2-0 win after five successive draws.
However, there is some fan rebellion against Sam Allardyce's style, with a number of chants of 'We're West Ham United, we play on the floor'. Allardyce has retorted this his detractors are 'deluded':
It seems like Crawley and Bradford, didn't like each other after the match last night. Five players were sent off.

The manager of Crawley is a man whom i detest with a passion for his touch line behviour/antics and his past history at Boston. I would direct you to:

'How on earth was that not a penalty?' asked the commentator, re. Alexis Sanchez being brought down in the AC Milan area.
Because THE BALL WAS GONE!

TV commentators normally try to hype the match up anyway - I've seen some utterly crap matches where the commentators are full of life, even though there is nothing to shout about.

AC Milan v Juventus in the CL final a few years ago was a prime example of just that. Awful, awful game as I recall.
Y'see that's where you're wrong. We've won a lot of games this season (equalled the club record for away wins), and a lot of fans are not happy, because it's horrible, boring football.

One of Europe's Great Clubs. ? Leeds ? Really ?
Just because you sing Champions of Europe doesn't mean you are.
How terrible condescending to those clubs mentioned. You are where you deserve to be. And that applies to every club in every league everywhere
Yes. Still didn't win, though. And 35 odd years should have given a tad of perspective. You do realise why Leeds sing that don't you?
.....
'Modern' Day football...Teams set out 'not to lose' rather than to try and win games anyone? Chelsea 0-0 Spurs last weekend being a prime example
I always love the way that when anyone suggests that Leeds are a big team that is a huge uproar and people go out of their way to try and say Leeds are a tiny club.
The huge fuss so many people make speaks for itself doesn't it. We are tiny yet everyone talks about us. Hmmmm, interesting that one!
Living in the Leeds area, I am surrounded by fans who repeat the trip about "Champions of Europe", and that Leeds are "by rights" a big team. When you say that "everyone talks about us" it might be in the same way that "everyone" talks about Lindsay Lohan, lots of potential but an embarrassment to have around. If the club could concentrate on the present and forget the perceived injustices of a generation ago, uncommitted people might give it a little more respect.I always love the way that when anyone suggests that Leeds are a big team that is a huge uproar and people go out of their way to try and say Leeds are a tiny club.

While every man and his dog are salivating over Barcelona I notice FC Bayern quietly and calmly do the business in Marseille
