I believe Mark Lawrenson said of City's equaliser - 'That is never a penalty in a million years'.

Mark lawrenson did indeed on bbc newsfeed,
Skys reporters were of differing opinion, saying it was clear cut as he raised his hands above his head.

FIFA members hate the fact that the U.K. has four seperate entries to FIFA tournaments

Can you provide any written evidence to back up your assertion of what you have stated here. Has any press statements been made in recent times by FIFA stating their view on the current situation.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
btw, when gibraltar wanted full uefa and fifa membership the spanish complained about it and when it went to a vote they were defeated by 45 votes to 3.

Let us draw a link for comparison:-

Gibraltar to Spain
Channel Islands to France
Falkland Islands to Argentina

Can you see a British connection to any of the above ?

At least Hong Kong is now officially part of China.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
now fifa or uefa can make any promises they like about it not affecting the separate identities of the home nations but it's not worth the paper it's written on, fifa has a 2/3rds majority voting system and i don't think we'd get too many votes in our favour, so get ready for team GB forever.

Again, I ask you to provide documentary evidence to back up the statement that you have made with regard to FIFA and their future intentions on this matter. You talk about FIFA promises already made and I want to know what secret internal FIFA information that you appear to be privy to that will soon affect the existing status quo.

i think mancini has lost all credibility after this, how could he possibly have allowed tevez to pull on that shirt again and leave himself looking as if he has 1 ounce of self respect.
i think he's finished after this.

Big IF....But what if Tevez goes on to score/ set up the goals that win the league for city, then Mancini will be deemed a genius for getting Tevez to play again, after all that had happened.
When he came on last night he made some skillful moves, and his spacial awareness to set up the winning was goal was incredible, 90% of players would not of played the ball off to nasri like that.

i'm not disputing how talented a player tevez is, but you can't let players have carte blanch because they are talented.
what message does this send out to his teammates, refuse to play if you don't want to, go on an extended holiday to argentina over the winter for 6 months, come home and pick up where you left off.
i wouldn't be surprised if he's got mancini cleaning his boots.this is what happens when you give these people so much power, they think they're the boss and live by their own rules.

The problem MC have is not the team mates - who should be professional enough to play with anyone, surely;) - but potential buyers. Which would you rather buy - a troublemaker who, though talented, has not played for nearly a year and will need time to build up match fitness, or a player who has been brought back into the fold, is match fit, and has displayed that his talents are still flourishing?

On another topic, what is going on here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17472693 ? What rights do fans have to interfere with the legal duties of an administrator (unless, of course, they put up their own bid)? Do passengers have a right to influence directly who takes over franchises? Will the fans have to hand over any money to creditors if their favoured buyers prove failures?

Looks like events at Elland Road have buggered that result in TPL as well as screwing up the away goal sum. :(

Leeds 3 - 7 (Seven) Nottingham Forest!!

Oh dear I said it'd be 2-2 and there'd be 17 away goals

What a night to be a Leeds fan. Most of us were just laughing by the time the 6th went in. It was incredible to watch, a total collapse, how we even managed to get it to 3-3 I will never know.

Forest's away following was pathetic, a fraction of what we took to their place (also a midweek game) and barely any noise even when they were thrashing us.

Still, a trip to the New Den on saturday! That ought to be fun.

The administrator was failing the club, he was selecting the one that paid him large exclusivity amounts, yet didnt have any funding in place to buy the club, just kept making empty promises.
The fans cottoned onto this, and made this known, the consortium kept saying they'll pump x amount into the club whilst still in administration for player wages, yet the money never materialised after the exclusivity had been paid.
The consortium kept stalling on the funding, claiming the sources were delayed. The administrator because he had took a exclusivity bribe from this consortium would not consider other bids that had the money on the table.

Admittedly, any consortium with an ex-Leeds Chairman around is suspicious (allegedly ;)). But the administrator says that other bids were rejected by the fans as well

Ridsdale was allegedly nothing to do with kevin heaney's takeover, At the time Heaney was in place as preferred bidder, Truro City had cash flow issues and a transfer embargo well publicised in the south west, Argyle fans got hold of this. If his non league team has a tax court case against them, how is he going to run a league side....

I wouldn't worry about it Paul. This is al in the imagination of a Celtic fan who is clutching at some very long straws

I think Sepp Blatter did make some remark about a GB Teams participation in the Olympics not affecting the constituent nations status as seperate entities within FIFA.

So do you trust Sepp "the snake" Blatter, and take him at his word ?

If Sepp Blatter has made a pronouncement to that effect in his capacity of President of FIFA and this is in the public domain, then it will be taken as a pronouncement of FIFA itself. I can well imagine the legal complexities that will then ensue if FIFA were then to make a revocation of this statement, as it was made by the President of their organisation, who was speaking on their behalf.

It wouldn't surprise me if Blatter added 'Anyone who wants this challenged, please send a cheque made payable to FIFA for in excess of £75,000 and we'll consider it'. The man has been nothing but an embarrassing fool during his reign.

I do agree with your conclusions though.

I think he'd want more than that. That is only 46 days' pay!

Blatter ... revealed his presidential salary was "$1m(£598,000), perhaps a bit more" before also claiming: "I'm not ashamed by that".

I still wonder how much of this poor press is a smear campaign because England were not awarded the WC. It is no secret than English media has a superiority complex when it comes to international competition and it is not implausible that they decided to besmirch Blatter.

well here's another quote from blatter.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/football/7286011.stm

just depends on which one of blatters quotes you believe i suppose.

but bearing in mind that fifa has a two thirds majority voting structure, blatter, nor any other individual is in any position whatsoever to make promises on behalf of over 200 member states.

I am more than happy to produce three facts from this link that is in your posting:-

1)...The tournament is the Olympic Games...... and is one that FIFA have no say in the organisational matters appertaining thereto.

2)...The International Olympic Committee does not recognise separate teams from Britain's home countries.

3)...The Scottish Football Association reiterated their opposition to a combined team during their meeting with Sepp Blatter.

Will this be enough to be going on with....

are you completely ignoring the fact that the president of FIFA is warning that a combined GB olympic footbll team could directly threaten the independent status of the home nations.

the SFA might well have reiterated it's opposition to a unified team but a number of players have stated that they will play, if selected.

It's quite strange that the laws of the game are controlled by the IFAB.

The International Football Association Board was founded in 1882 by the Home Nations (England,Scotland,Wales and Ireland as it would have been at the time now Northern Ireland)

Today it consists of 8 members 4 from FIFA and the four home nations in recognition of their input in the founding of the modern game.

To change anything 6 members are required to vote in favour of a measure.

Could a motion not be brought forward that no Swiss National could be President of FIFA in order to get rid of Blatter:roll:

Mind you he'd probably bribe his fellow FIFA contingent to retain his position.

Assuming all the Home Nations are in favour of "goaline technology" I'm suprised it has taken so long to procure the other two votes and get it introduced.:p

The SFA are a tinpot organisation that amazingly make the FA look positively progressive.

It's opposition to a unified team owes more to the fact we'd be lucky to get anyone into a GB team - at least Cymru would have Bale and a few others with a fighting chance. As for NI they are in the same boat as us

they've been warned about the possible outcome of any unified involvement, but i suppose this theory will be tested in the not too distant future.

Sorry to break up the continuing Olympic debate, but I wanted to bring this post from Tuesday back to the fore:

Suncthorpe are efficient with their players and would recognise a good player instantly, especially up front. Never mind Hooper for a minute; look at Billy Sharp. Thinking back to Southend, when Freddy Eastwood scored against Man Utd (6/11/06) everyone said he was the next big thing, but really Billy Sharp was far better. Heck, even Beefy Botham played up front for Scunthorpe, and he went on to become one of England's best ever sportsmen (even if he did make his name outside of football). On the other hand, Eastwood aside Southend haven't been able to recognise outside talent - even when put in front of their noses - since the days of Stan Collymore and Chris Powell. And they played for Southend when I was at playschool.

Thus, Hooper failed at Southend, but succeeded at Scunthorpe - and netted them a tidy profit in the process.

Apparently I pre-empted something here. Since I posted this, barely 48 hours ago, Freddy Eastwood has returned to Southend on loan

Did you see the sports newsflash that states that Alex Herne, the English FA chief executive, said that Britain's automatic and long-standing vice-presidency of FIFA was an anachronism and that it might now be the time for this automatic position to be abolished.

Well for all the good it does (securing World Cups) it seems to be a titular position of no real influence :p

Could be interesting in the SPL tomorrow though, Celtic could take the SPL officially at Ibrox, that will be violent no doubt

Conference Premiership fight for the top spot....

Fleetwood Town 2...Mansfield Town 0

Wrexham 1...Forest Green Rovers 2

These results mean that Fleetwood Town (95 points...goal difference better than Wrexham) still have six matches to play and are nine points clear of Wrexham (86 points) at the top of this league, but Wrexham still have two games in hand, although today's result at home has done Wrexham no favours.

Hate to say it, but Rangers thoroughly deserved to win and prevent Us winning the Title today, discipline is 'key', we had two straight reds (Rangers later had one), Neil Lennon got sent off as well (NOT clever:oops:) at Half Time, SFA will probably be 'dishing out' a lengthy ban (no sympathy if they do either). Lost the battle, but will win the War, hopefully sooner rather than later. Onwards...

Although we delayed the inevitable today, this quote from someone on Twitter sums up my feelings:

Celtic celebrating beating Rangers to this year's title is like Oxford celebrating because Cambridge sank.

Chesterfield 2 Swindon 0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
A Swindon OG just after half-time and a goal from Craig Westcarr in injury time clinch the trophy for The Spireites, but some debate as to whether he should have received a red card, after a tussle with Devera left the Swindon man with a bloody nose.

Newcastle tearing WBA apart at the Hawthorns. Pa**** Cissé, Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa have been unstoppable upfront (HT 3-0)

Meanwhile good result for United yesterday - City only managing a 1-1 draw away at Stoke, but what a goal by Peter Crouch!

EDIT: I see the swear filter has took out part of one of the strikers' names! haha. Apologies if that automatically triggers the mods to look into it or something!

UPDATE: WBA just got a goal back, Newcastle leading 3-1 now 52 minutes gone.

Lennon publically said he did not want to win the title at ibrox! I also felt the ref was a lot stricter on Celtic than Rangers watching the match on sky.
