I wonder if the England football management have now learned any lessons from these two friendly matches that they did not already know in their onward planning for the next World Cup ?

The problem with UK football for many years has been the obsession with fitness & work rate at the expense of ball skill.

It is pointless being able to keep running for 90+ minutes if you can't do something creative / productive when you get the ball. We need a huge improvement in passing accuracy, and lots more practice in shooting at goal from all angles (including penalty taking.)

To be fair Spain don't do anything creative or productive when they get the ball. What they do is keep it and pass it amongst themselves. I just cannot see a second rate time like England getting anywhere, pretending to be first rate just doesn't cut it.

On the subject of England Manchester City's starting line up contained no Englishmen...

Unless I am much mistaken my team, Liverpool, won the FA Cup in 86 with no Englishmen. It isn't a new phenomena.

Accrington Stanley were the first team to field a team with no Englishmen in in the 1950s.

Technically, Mark Lawrenson was born in Preston, despite him playing for the Republic of Ireland (and judging by his comments when summarising on England games, he considers himself English as he refers to the team as 'we' and gets very depressed when England are losing) and Steve McMahon was a non-playing substitute.

I stand corrected and now view myself as a worser fan. Ha ha.

The media have completely ignored that Cardiff's equaliser came from a free kick that shouldn't have been, that the free kick was successfully defended by United on the first attempt but the referee inexplicably ordered it to be retaken after a Cardiff player (Medel) threw a punch at Fellaini (and wasn't sent off) and they scored from the second taking of it.

The pictures on MOTD tell a different story. For the free kick, Smalling caught the player and didn't touch the ball, so a fair decision. The ref stopped play just as the free kick was been taken, so how is Fellaini catching the ball after the whistle had been blown is successfully defending it?

Rooney was booked when he clattered the Cardiff player, so can't face any retrospective action, where as Medel, depending on what the ref puts in his report, could be facing a 3 match ban.

Man Utd didn't drop 2 points because the ref "stitched them up". Man Utd dropped 2 points because they were not good enough.

The pictures on MOTD tell a different story.

So BBC doctored the images then?

For the free kick, Smalling caught the player and didn't touch the ball, so a fair decision.

The ball was already heading out of play off the Cardiff player's boot. It was a throw in to United.

The ref stopped play just as the free kick was been taken

Simply incredible reactions from the referee then, as the assault on Fellaini only began a split second before the ball was delivered and continued with the ball in the air. If the play had been stopped, as you claimed, how did the free kick end up being delivered in to the box?

so how is Fellaini catching the ball after the whistle had been blown is successfully defending it?

Ferdinand with help from Evans had already defended the ball, Fellaini picked the ball up seconds later to throw it back and allow it to be retaken.

The pictures on MOTD tell a different story.

On second thoughts maybe it looks like you just saw what you wanted to see.

Medel, depending on what the ref puts in his report, could be facing a 3 match ban.

Which doesn't help United in any way, but will help Arsenal who play them next.

Man Utd didn't drop 2 points because the ref "stitched them up". Man Utd dropped 2 points because they were not good enough.

Of course anytime United win a game it isn't because the opposition "were not good enough" or United played well, it was because the referee stitched the opposition up.

Happy with another 3 points and a 3rd win on the bounce. I just still dont understand why they go all defensive when we have a good lead - we always let one in!!

Last time Oldham played Shrewsbury Oldham won 4-1 in JPT back in September, they playing against each other tonight and Shrewsbury scored in 16 mins. (1-0) :(

Arsenal are winning 1-0 Wilshere score in within 33 sec but Celtic are losing 1-0.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Oldham score just before half time mean is 1-1, Arsenal still winning 1-0 but miss penalty, Chelsea are drawing 0-0 at Half time and Celtic are still losing 1-0 at Half time, probably surprise scoreline at Half time Ajax are 2-0 up against Barcelona.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Oldham are winning 2-1 now :) and Celtic are heading out of Uefa Champion League as they are losing 3-0 to AC Milan.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Oldham did beat Shrewsbury 2-1 and is Oldham four victory in row all competition :D

Arsenal won 2-0 against Marseille but Chelsea lose 1-0 to FC Basel but win against Steaua Bucharest in two weeks and Chelsea will be through to last 16, Celtic are out of Europe after they lose 3-0 to AC Milan.

Aston Villa do seem to appear to have more "steel" to their game compared to last season and to fight back from 2-0 down to score twice in a ten minute period in the second half away at West Brom does them credit.

That is true but steel won't always be enough, we need to tighten up at the back. Still, I was able to face my dad today (WBA fan) with some pride

The Manchester United team party must have sensed a type of deja-vu when their plane was forced to abort a first attempted landing over a German airport as they were travelling to a European club competition in bad weather.

Hyde FC.....played 21, won 0, draw 3 and lose 18, GD -37.

Hyde are accorded some type of relief from their nightmare Skrill Premiership season this coming weekend, as they have been drawn at home in the FA Carlsberg Trophy to the Skrill League North club North Ferriby United.

North Ferriby United did well in their visit to the region last weekend in their away league match against Stockport County, which they won 2-1.

An air traffic controller posting on a Manchester United website claimed that such aborted landings are a daily occurrence at most major airports, and estimated at least 10 a day happen in the UK alone. Germany themselves must have several each day.

Of course it's obvious why the media chose to try and make it in to a story but it doesn't mean it ever was one.

So on Saturday Hyde should win they first game of season then.

I see Crawley sacked manager Richie Barker knowing they are unbeaten in four matches.

Man Utd are winning 1-0 against Bayer Leverkusen and Man Utd will be through to last 16 if it still like that.

.

Ferriby have been one of the strongest teams in the Skrill North this season. I wouldn't bet on Hyde winning.

That said, I wouldn't have put a bet on Leek getting past Brackley in the qualifier to book a date a Moss Lane on Saturday either.

Man Utd won 5-0 tonight mean they are through to last 16 of UCL, other Manchester club (City) won 4-2 against Plzen but City will finish second given that Bayern Munich won all five of their group games.

Bayer Leverkusen went into that home fixture lying only one point behind in second place in their group and having quite a good home record in all competitions of late. This 0-5 loss at home has now left them in third place in their group table with just one match to play.

Not necessarily as City still have to play Bayern in the final group game, that said we would of course have to win 7-0 in order to do it on goal difference :p

It would seem that Manchester City have made yet another signing, this time Toni Duggan has joined the Ladies team which I think is the third signing this month. City Ladies will be competing in the Womans Super League from next season onwards and in my opinion is a good step forward for the club, as someone who enjoys watching the Ladies game at international level it will be nice to actually see league matches too :)

BBC Sport Link

With regard to what happened involving an aircraft and a football club I managed to get some backtrack off one DJ yesterday when I emailed in to advise him that Missed Approaches and go-arounds are total none events and are fairly common and would not have been news had it not been for that bunch on board. As former air crew I'd say I've had about 12 of them including one aborted landing where we had already touched down... Anyway moving on... :)

Amazingly Arsenal have amassed 12 points and could still get knocked out whilst others have gone though on just 9 points.

A terrible showing by Darlington 1883 on Saturday ended with a 4-2 defeat to Farsely. Highlights here: http://www.farsleyafc.co.uk/videos/2013-08-24-farsley-v-darlingto-43246.html

I am referring back to this posting that you made some time ago as this was the first real setback in the new league that you were promoted to this season. I am sure that you have found there are more difficult teams that Darlington 1883 will face in this season. That being said, I was surprised that you lost both at home and away to Ramsbottom United.

What league position do you think that Darlington 1883 should be expecting this season ?

I wonder if Hyde will win aleast one game this season after today loses? I wonder too if they will sacked their manager as I see they haven't won game since 9th April when they beat Ebbsfleet 1-0? (24 matches since that last win)

I see Altrincham lose 2-1 to Leek which is good results for Leek special as they play in Northern Premier League (I think one division below Altrincham?)

Shock results in Scottish Cup as Albion who plays in third division of Scotland beat Motherwell 1-0 this afternoon.

EDIT: I see Fulham lose 3-0 to West Ham today so wonder if this mean Martin Jol will be sacked in next 48 hours if paper are right about Fulham lose today then Jol would lose his Job?

Not a bad result, could of won. Attendance was alright at just over 400.
And it's now been confirmed all players have been removed from the transfer list.

On another note Weymouth lost 7 NILL.

Ditto Chester City, who also lost 2 - 1 at home to Barrow, currently at the wrong end of the Skrill North.

I suspected it was imminent when Rene Maulensteen was appointed head coach. I suspect within a day or two we will hear Fulham are going to follow several other clubs and have the head coach running the show rather than a manager.

Fulham have confirmed Rene Maulensteen will be running first team affairs, slightly quicker than my day or two I predicted 5 minutes ago

Oldham 1-1 Bradford

Good point for Latics and fair draw too, I felt that Bradford player Garry Thompson handball the ball before setting up Wells but aleast we hit back and scored in 2 mins after Bradford did, good crowd at Boundary Park too, 7,180 (3,000 was Bradford fans)

Premiership results, Man Utd could only draw 2-2 to Tottenham with Rooney scoring both Utd goals, Man City just won 3-0 against Swansea and Chelsea just beat Southampton 3-1 but Southampton scored within 20 sec from kicking off.

I see Sheffield Wednesday have sacked Dave Jones with Wednesday in 23rd in Championship.

Thank you and goodbye to Dave Jones, finally sacked after an atrocious start to the season. Bizarre signings, players he's signed that have been shipped off on loan, others simply forgotten about. Players playing out of position. We went on a run of 8 points from 18 last season which was bad enough, this season 1 win all season, too many draws, 0 clean sheets.

1 win all season is not good enough, sadly its going to take something special to keep us up. He'd lost the plot. No hope, no ideas. This brings new motivation, new hope, new ideas. Need to stick by the new man and hope for the best.
