This will most surely annoy the xenophobic red-top "sports" writers, as it will be more difficult for them to trumpet England as "world beaters", as is their want.

When they "catch up" with Scotland you can start worrying for real

I see that Ryan Giggs has been appointed player-coach and Phil Neville as first-team coach at Manchester United by David Moyes, as part of the building of his coaching staff roster there.

At last England's ranking reflects their actual capabilities. They should have been down there for the last 3 or 4 years. Of course, slip much further and they won't be a top seed any more. That's when qualification for tournaments becomes really interesting! It will also be interesting to see where everyone levels out once qualification for Brazil is over.

I see Oldham have sign two players for up coming season, goalkeeper Mark Oxley on season loan move from Hull and Charlie MacDonald on free transfer for one year deal with option of a second in Oldham's favour.

I hope both players do well for Latics this season and hopefully push Latics for top 10 place for 2013/14 season.

I also see Nicolas Anelka is back playing in premiership again as West Brom sign him for free transfer after only spend three months with Juventus.

It felt really strange watching Moyes do his Press Conference yesterday For anyone who hasn't seen it (and probably doesn't intend to), he said the following about his appointment:

After a succesful outcome to his medical, 24 year old Brazilian midfielder Paulinho has now completed his move from Corinthians to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee said to be just under £17 million.

Brad Guzan has agreed a new four-year deal which will extend his Villa career to the end of the 2016-17 season.

The 28-year-old US international goalkeeper returned to pre-season training at the Bodymoor Heath Training Ground this morning along with fellow international players including captain Ron Vlaar, Christian Benteke, Andi Weimann, Yacouba Sylla and new singing Jores Okore.

BBC Scotland was reporting on the situation at Hearts. Currently, they have debts of £25 million, and have a funding shortfall of £500,000 due to the slow uptake of season tickets. They need the half a million ASAP to pay the players and staff wages, and any tax due.

An update to your posting, heard over this last weekend.

Hearts joint administrator,Trevor Birch, is reported as saying that the club cannot rule out the "last resort" of entering into a "newco" scenario.

I was expecting some amount of xenophobic stupidity on Radio 4 this morning but even I, with all my well-known cynicism, was amazed to hear a female presenter on Radio 4 this morning attempting to draw a conclusion between the undoubted last year that Andy Murray has experienced (two grand slams and the Olympic mens single title) with the hopes of the England football team winning the next World Cup....hock:

Apparently Murray got the bums rush from MOTD2 for upsetting pundits.

I hope Talk Sports football coverage is a little better than the drivel I was forced to endure when they had exclusive Lions coverage in the recent series.

If America produced outfield players like they do goalkeepers - Keller, Friedel, Hahnemann (haven't got a clue how you spell that), Guzan, Howard etc they'd be well within the Top 16 in the rankings. On the subject of one of Villa's bald Brads, I think aside from the Great Dane, Brad Friedel is the best foreign goalkeeper ever to play in the Premier League. He has one of the best penalty save ratios in European football and on his day was unstoppable. He's carried that on for over 15 years and 450 games. Beginning to lose his way slightly now at Spurs but at Blackburn he was the reason they achieved what they did under Souness and Hughes.

Another mercenary in Benteke has asked for a move from Villa 1 year into a 4 year deal, this is the bloke who went on strike at his last club as they wouldn't accept Villas offer.

No doubt he will end up at Spurs who watched him many times last season, if he does leave Villa I think they may well find this season even harder than the last one.
