I think the referees and 'assistants' have been particularly bad this weekend, but to be fair in this case, I think there were two players between him and the incident.

You were poor as were we. You couldnt pick out the last ball and despite all the set pieces and posession didnt seem to get a clear cut chance.

Very impressed i was though paul. If your team could cross they would of been 5-0 up at half time.
Ultimately we took our chances i feel and probably just edged it because of that...

Our game at the moment is about as exciting as the reverse fixture, we shouldn't be sitting on a 1-0 at home against Stoke.

Another win for NUFC! Though I commend Pardew greatly for his efforts, I also think a huge amount of praise should be given to assistant manager, John Carver- who arrived for his second spell working for the club in January 2011 (just after Pardew had took over.) He was assistant manager to Sir Bobby Robson during his time managing Newcastle, so I believe he will be a main contributing factor to our success.

On a slightly different topic, there's a match between two former Newcastle managers taking place in the Championship - Sam Allardyce v Chris Hughton. Though this may be contrary to several other members opinions on this forum I would love to see Birmingham back in the premiership. Chris did a smashing job at Newcastle, it was a tough task to get the squad back together after relegation and he did it excellently, and was coping well in the Premiership. I certainly believe he is more competent than many of the managers we have in the Premiership at the moment (I'm sure some Aston Villa fans will agree) and therefore would love to see him managing there ASAP.

Having said that, despite being 3-1 down at half-time, West Ham were the better team for three-quarters of the game (the exception being the last twenty minutes of the first half) and if they'd been awarded either of the penalties they didn't get, which would've got them back into it a lot sooner, the result could've been different.

If he did I would drive a train from Birmingham to Bournemouth stark naked.
Its about time you realised mcleish is a dreadful manager. If he had any honour and decency he would resign. At the start of the season the stated aim was to finish at least 9th. Not going to happen so he should either walk or be sacked.
The attendance today was 30100. In reality I have been told it was closer to 27000. Look what you are doing to the club Lerner and mcleish. People will not pay upwards of £30 to watch your brand of 'football'. Go now

It depends on the Liverpool v Everton FA cup semi final next weekend. If Everton progress into the final then we would need to finish in fifth place (as the FA cup winner and runner up qualifies for Europe.) However if Liverpool defeat Everton we will get into Europe finishing sixth (as Liverpool have already qualified for Europe through winning the league cup.)

I think we were all a little bit apprehensive when Pardew was appointed. We were comfortable in mid table at the time of Hughton's departure and I did fear that the appointment of a new manager could have a bad impact on the club. Though the club claimed to be wanting a manager with more experience, you couldn't say that Pardew is a managerial veteran. I've never called for Pardew to be sacked, perhaps mainly because we haven't had a substantial string of poor results under his leadership. Aslong (and I'm sure I speak for most of the fans when I say this) as he keeps delivering good results I am happy for him to be manager.

IIRC

If the two FA Cup Finalists make the top five in the league or if Liverpool (League Cup Winners) make the final and the other finalist finishes in the top five, the sixth placed team will go into European competition.

Alternatively, if Liverpool (League Cup Winners) make the top five or win the FA Cup with the other finalist making the top five in the league, the sixth placed team will play in European competition.

If both occur, sixth and seventh in the league will go into European competition next season.

As a side note, I think there is a fair play award which gives an extra place in the Europa League.

Basically, the top four go into the Champions League (unless an English team outside the top four wins the Champions League, when the fourth placed team goes into the Europa League instead)
Fifth place goes into the Europa League (unless they won the Champions League)

The FA Cup winner goes into the Europa League (unless they have already qualified for European competition when the Runner up goes in (unless they have already qualified when sixth in the league qualifies))

The League Cup winner goes into the Europa League (unless they have already qualified for European competition when sixth place in the league goes in (unless they have already qualified when seventh in the league qualifies))

Referee Martin Atkinson took no action in the match, but reported the incident had been seen, ruling out retrospective Football Association action.

If he saw the assault, why the hell did he not send him off? it's another joke decision in a weekend full of them!

I say assault, because Balotelli made no attempt to play the ball, instead concentrating on doing as much harm as possible to Alex Song! It was one of those challenges that could have easily broken a leg, and in some circumstances be a career ender ....
