He actually laughed when Becchio (I think it was) got carded. You lads were in good voice as always. It was a shame Snoddy didn't take his chance better, Ross served it to him on a plate.

Yep, Goodman's commentary was a disgrace. I don't care who hates Leeds but when your paid to remain impartial for the country's premier sports broadcaster it is bang out of order.

When McCormack put Snoddy in I just knew he would fluff it, don't know why because he's one of our better players but I just instantly had a bad feeling.

Derby up next so no doubt another defeat. It's going to be a very interesting summer....

The BBC haven't been impartial in relation to football for decades. All you need to do is listen to a game involving Manchester City/United and listen to the fawning. Sure they're the least biased but certainly not impartial

I am on the verge of turning up to Thorpe Arch with my boots and shinnies and asking if I qualify for one of the U21 slots so don't need registering (I was 21 before 1.1.2012 so I doubt it) and playing. I might be needed with how many injuries and suspensions we have.

To be fair to him, Snoddy hadn't trained all week as he was in Scotland with a hospitalised family member (his mum I think)

Loving the anti Leeds on here. Such complexes!

I doubt people on here hate Leeds at all. But it seems it is quite easy to wind Leeds fans up. So who is it that has the complex exactly ?

For the record I don't hate Leeds. I don't really give them a second thought to be honest. But you keep waggling that bone and it makes it so easy to come and bite ;)

:D

When it was 4-0 at half time, I had a "sneaking" feeling that the cup match result was not going to be recreated....:D

This must have been one of the heaviest home defeats suffered by Kilmarnock since the formation of the Premier League in Scotland.

I'd be more than happy for -20 minutes of injury time at Anfield

I'll take a point from Anfield although we could have had three. Results largely went our way with Wigan, Bolton and Blackburn losing. QPR and Wolves are yet to play

Football Conference Premiership

Yesterday, Wrexham lost 0-1 at home to Alfreton Town, so this gave Fleetwood Town every incentive in what appeared to be a difficult away match at York City, which they won 1-0.

With only four matches for Fleetwood Town still to play (even though Wrexham do have a game in hand), Fleetwood Town are now 11 points clear at the top of that league :-
P.42.... W.31 D.8 L.3.... F.99 A.41.... Pts. 101

Could be won by this time next week, they only need four points regardless of what happens with Wrexham.

Football Conference North

Altrincham 1...Hyde FC 3

Colwyn Bay 1...Guiseley 2

So both the top two win away again. These results leave Hyde FC still two points clear (but with a far better goal difference) of Guiseley with now only four matches still to play, to be Champions and to obtain the automatic promotion place to the Conference Premiership next season.

And that just about ruins any hopes Alty have of reaching the play-offs - they're 7 points behind, and with 4 games to play, theres not much hope really :(

Nothing can be worse than that Clyde Tilsey or whatever he's called off ITV. Mr Man Utd.

At the moment the players i'd keep at the club is a shorter list than the ones i'd release.

I don't mind seeing players get stuck in and the odd 'forceful' tackle can sometimes spice a game up but some of our tackles on Friday were awful. It wasn't a case of roughing up the opposition it was just over the top and not needed. Like I said before the Reading players were pretty pathetic with their barracking of the ref and Karacan's forward roll after a tackle that got a 9.9 from the Russian judge but you have to say it was our players that need to take the bulk of the blame.

Not very optimistic for Monday against Derby but hey ho, i'll be there. Tickets have arrived for Blackpool and Cardiff away as well but not much riding on those games. Good night out in Blackpool though!

What a disgraceful decision Chelsea's first goal was today, how did the linesman miss that?If anyone did their job that inconsistently they'd be shown the door!

Does that mean that the entire Altrincham FC squad is about to be released

I'm wondering if The FA will fine Martinez for his comments, or would they have no grounds too when he was stating fact. Both Chelsea goals were significantly offside!

Will they also fine Chelsea for making seven changes from their previous games? Thought not.

... And then there's the blatant miss of an offside today at OT (it wasn't close, it was a clear few yards), and a resulting dive for a penalty, which also saw QPR's Shaun Derry dismissed. Disgraceful. I agree with the bloke on BBC's live commentary that said that games should be studied in retrospect and any blatant divers seen should be issued eight game bans. It just isn't good enough.

You mean Man Utd get a dodgy decision in their favour at OT? That's never happened before

First offence: Instant red card with 3 match ban
Second Offence: 2 month ban and 3 points deducted
Third Offence: 6 month ban and 10 points deducted
Fourth Offence: Season ban and 20 point deduction

Apart from the First Offence a pre-requisite would be technology.
Clubs condone if not encourage diving because more often than not it pays off in the form of penalty. The existing laws aren't bad but they really need to be enforced - when was the last time a yellow card was given?

The Laws of the Game need a severe overhaul to bring contact back into the game and to stop this.

Roberto Mancini will be collecting his p45 soon.. As much as i hate Man Utd, as a Liverpool fan, Man City just cannot handle the pressure.

Much as Manchester United deserved to win I hate seeing cheaters win <D.

Just heard on 606 a Man Utd who lives in Leeds - a local!!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Results definitely went our way though. Also Ashley Young was a saint at Villa ;)

606 callers:

Man Utd - Leeds
Arsenal - Grimsby
? (unknown) - Oxford
Man United - Salford
Man City - Blackburn
Man City - Cheshire
Man City - Stoke

My geography isn't the greatest but they're not all that local - Salford excluded

The problem is that what is often perceived as blatant diving isn't. If any athlete is running fast, they are working right at the limits of their balance, and the slightest outside factor can upset that balance. This is why, in, say, athletics a "tumble" can seem much more dramatic than it need be. In football, the act of trying to avoid a tackle can be enough to make a "balance" player fall over, as can such daft things as finding an unexpectedly soft piece of ground. When balance is lost it is very difficult to regain, and the natural instinct is to try to fall without injury - hence some players may look as if they are "diving" when in fact they have lost balance and trying to land safely. Then there are the other sort, who appear to make a complete meal of things - Carroll the other week, for instance. If you are not a natural balance player, loss of balance can just turn you into a windmill of arms and legs; this looks obviously playing to the gallery, but isn't.
The only cases you can 100% say are diving are those where the "diver" has been standing still and flings himself over (I seem to remember a few from the recent ACoN being on Youtube).
The corollary of this is that it is often impossible to say, even with technology, whether a foul has actually been committed. Just as a slight change in ground pressure can have a catastrophic effect, so can the slightest touch - and that would be a foul.

I see your point but they know it full well when they go into the game. A lot of divers are consistent, remember Christiano Ronaldo* getting blown over by a light breeze? Ashley Young isn't much better. There is a world of difference between trying to stay on your feet and going over - how many penalties have West Brom received? What about Fulham? Funny how it's only the bigger teams that seem to get these decisions

* yes, I've rinsed my mouth out with soap

Yes, there are obvious candidates as regular potential divers, but I suspect you can probably tell better from their reaction after the whistle has gone.

Lovely! A whole new can of juicy squiggly things. Is it the intimidation of the big team (What would Sir A say if I didn't?), or a feeling that the bigger teams are more likely to have better players, who are less likely to cheat (fallacy, pure and simple).
Another aspect of the problem might be the undue effect a penalty has on the outcome of the game; it almost always results in a goal, and sometimes in a reduction of the opposition. It is well worth "simulating" for. And yet penalties are often given when the attacker has no hope of scoring. So either a) reduce the likelihood of a penalty (reduce the size of the "area") so that it reflects the actual likelihood of scoring or b) reduce the effect (eg by saying that a penalty awarded will only be taken in a shoot-out after the match if the game has finished in a draw - no penalty awards, no shoot-out - which would, incidentally, give time for independent analysis to see if the penalty was justified).

Regarding penalty decisions, the bbc ran a blog regarding this, and they reported on how many penaltys etc teams are winning, and in fact some of the smaller teams have had the most penalties. Can't find the blog now to link to

Hmm .... According to what's been said on MOTD2 tonight, today was the last time you've probably seen Baliotelli play in the premiership.

Apparantley, Mancini has had enough now, and after his suspension, won't play again this season.

Despite Super Mario having to serve a 2 match ban, I expect that will become a 5 match ban after the FA review his attempted leg break on Song this afternoon. How the ref missed that, I do not know....
