Are Gloucester still in the National League North? I imagine some of those away journeys would be fun...
City have been in National League North / Conference North since 2009-10, except for two seasons in the late 2010s when they got moved into the South division.

They really need to learn from Rugby how to mange those kind of situations and communications - as you essentially said keep the questions and responses clear and as pre defined as possible so there's no confusion at all.

But there’s the thing. The premier league have an arrogance about them, and it manifests itself in them refusing to do what works very well in other sports.

The addition of a fourth step 3 league, Southern League Central, effectively feeding National League North along with the Northern Premier League, will mean more and more southern teams in that league.

In response to the Bognor Regis fan, I always thought that, in the olden days, the Isthmian League was a rather self centred competition for clubs near London who didn't like to travel very far. This left the rest of the clubs in the south of England in the Southern League where they faced some very long journeys to disparate places which were not near London.

Gloucester's longest journey, to Blyth, is over 50 miles shorter than Truro's longest journey, to Dover, in the National League South.

Dover were due to be playing at Truro (although they play in Plymouth) next Saturday, but it's been postponed because we are still in the FA Cup.

So it will now probably be a Tuesday night game.

Actually, it's intended to have the opposite effect by balancing the number of leagues at step 3. Previously, there were 3 step 3 leagues of which two were heavily southern based and went a long way to pushing the boundary at step 2 in a southerly direction.

It was, in origin, an amateur league for teams based within 30 (?) miles of London. Meanwhile the Southern League has always been a professional competition.

2 managers have left their jobs this evening:
Xisco Munoz has left Sheffield Wednesday after 8 defeats from 10 games.
Mark Hughes has left Bradford City after 19 months in charge.

I may hope that Alex Neil would leave Stoke, but Stoke have a habit of employing someone even worse….. :(

Yet another appalling piece of refereeing, just seen the QPR goalie sent off for an alleged foul on a Leeds player
There was actually no contact at all, they weren't even particularly close to each other. Disgraceful.

I haven’t seen this, so just out of interest, did the Leeds player attempt to fool the referee into giving a foul? Did he go down with no contact? If so I’d criticise the player over the referee.

Absolutely. But it was Patrick Bamford and he has a lot of previous for it

I've only seen it the once and my impression was that the Leeds player certainly made the most of it, surely Refs at this level have enough savvy to realise when they're being conned?

I was at the game and the referee was pretty useless all night. I think he was more swayed by the fans than Bamford.

QPR were abysmal though.

Is that the same Dover Athletic who deliberately engineered a postponement away at in-form Barrow on Saturday October 12th 2019 with a backdrop of Dover International call-ups and the National League not agreeing with postponed games on grounds of International call-ups? Thus resulting in a Tuesday night game at greater distance from Dover than even Truro is?

The VAR looked at the 'goal' and said "Check complete". And that was it. It would be better if it had been "Check complete, goal scored, no offside", regardless of what the onfield decision was. No room for ambiguity then.
Having heard the audio tape, the video operator (i.e. not any of the 'professionsl' referees) pointed out that the game not not restarted with a centre kick, and the goal was not showing on the scoreboard. The Video Operator was saying to delay the game, but the VAR ref said they can't - they've played on.

Why on earth wasn't play halted? They do if, say, the ref's microphone fails, so a delay would allow them to rethink the next step, such as the ref explaining to the managers, and continue with a kick-off.

The unusual, even unique, thing about this was that the VAR and ref knew an error had been made in real time. Often debates about was it offside etc are only cleared up after the match when the studio experts discuss it and the refs receive feedback, and make apologies if they had made a bad decision. In this case the decision was the right one; what happened next was absolutely shambolic.

Is Jurgen Klopp for real? He wants the Spurs match replayed.

Two things.

1) It’s not the first VAR error so should every match where it’s happened be replayed or just the ones where it acted negatively to Liverpool.

2) He moans about playing too many games then wants to replay a game they ultimately lost. Would he say the same if they’d won?

Hypocrite and bad loser in my book. If it had been the other way around and Spurs demanded a replay he’d be up in arms about it ‘too many games etc…’

I liked Klopp at first, he was a breath of fresh air. But for the last few years I’ve been absolutely bored rigid of his moaning and complaining and ‘everyone’s out to get us attitude’. Change the record Jurgen. We’re all bored of it now.

I don’t believe the on field ref knew until half time - he couldn’t hear what the video operator was saying

It's OK because it's just his personal opinion, not the opinion of the Liverpool manager. I'm not sure how we're supposed to tell the difference though.

Well quite. The bloke comes across so badly these days. Whatever happened to the funny, charming bloke who arrived here in 2015. I liked him even though I’m no Liverpool fan.

Players conning the referee has become part & parcel of football. This is the real issue.

Referee’s having to judge whether they are being conned should not be part of refereeing a game.

Nothing will change until players who have obviously tried to con the referee are sent off. I appreciate this would be difficult, but something needs to be done. Get to the cause of the problem.

The ones sent off would only be those who have tried and failed. From what I'm reading, Bamford does not fall (!) into that category on this occasion.

It's already a 'cardable' offence. If a player exaggerates contact or fakes an injury to deceive the referee, they can receive a yellow card for simulation or diving (it's deemed to be 'unsporting behaviour') and might be sent off if they've already received a caution. Of course, for the match referee, deciding whether a player has "dived", will be subjective and very likely to prove controversial.

Newcastle winning 4-1 against PSG was a bit of a suprise. 4 points from the first 2 games in a tough group, probably 4 points more than some would have predicted.

Regarding those plans for the World Cup in 2030... Bonkers to say the least. Like they saw Euro 2021 and decided they can go bigger with the range of countries hosting it.

A lot of comments on the BBC website asking the question as to whether PSG really are a top side, or are they being built up by the media on their past record?

One simple law change

If a player is sent off and then has it rescinded on appeal because it’s shown an opponent dived, their ban is transferred to the diver

Or better still, we just accept that mistakes are made - by referees, players and biased supporters.
