A lot of Wigan RL fans have long campaigned for a new stadium that they can call their own. DW is far too big and that's before you bring in the shenanigans at Athletic that could potentially put them at risk.

Seem to remember the £20m they got from selling the old ground to Tesco pretty much financed the new stadium, the football club ended up owning it through Whelan buying the rugby club and diverting the proceeds of the sale into a separate holding company as with many stadia while the football fans thought they owned the stadia it was actually in a separate company controlled by the owner not the club.

I seem to remember Tesco paying £12M, at least that was the figure quoted in the media at the time.

The rugby club had significant debts at the time and some of that paid off those debts. What happened to the remaining cash when Robinson was forced out has been a source of debate ever since…

Anyway, he isn't the right fit for the club or the players or the fans. He has done well at Celtic but then a wheelie bin could win the league at Celtic and he seems to have been about 15 choice for the Spuds job.

Another cockney club I don't like. Just like Spuds they are media darlings and vastly overhyped. They finished 14th in the PL. They did well winning a third level euro trophy but next season will be hard as they will lose thier best player and will have to now keep a manager that the fans don't seem to rate all that much. Unless they are taken over I cant see them having the money to push on.

Still, at least they have now won a trophy in colour, unlike Newcastle

Here in Great Britain, I do recall that any sides that have been placed under a transfer embargo, the only new players they can sign are those whose contracts have expired resulting in a free transfer (there was a common phrase used a while ago to describe free transfers, which was "on a Bosman").

They have the second largest capacity stadium behind Man Utd and were told, especially by Spurs fans, they would never fill it; but they have been exceeding Spurs and Arsenal. Although I think they use the Arsenal model of tickets sold not entrants as it's very unlikely everybody is able to turn up due to unforeseen circumstance; ie accident, family trouble, illness.

To add a train perspective the Saturday 1804 Paddington to Penzance was like a football special when you had 3pm kick offs there would be West Ham, Arsenal, QPR, Millwall and other supporters going home, some even into Cornwall. Plenty of drinking but I never saw any trouble.

Clubs are increasingly looking to find ways of selling on seats of non-attending season ticket holders increase revenue, some offer a credit to the season ticket holder and sell on the seat although this does rely on being advised of non-attendance. Certainly at higher levels where grounds are routinely sold out there is starting to be a realisation that empty seats mean other revenue streams are impacted as well - that can be a lot of people not buying refreshments, programmes and souvenirs.

West Ham have a seat exchange, whereby season ticket holders can relist their seat for sale if the game has sold out. You get the money back as club cash. I didn't make it to a number of home games this year and sold my ticket that way, gave me about 50% off my season ticket for next year

Compared to the last couple of seasons domestically, yes West Ham have underachieved. However, I look on those seasons as exceptionally good ones, with the current premier league campaign being more what we expect!
