That match against Sheffield Wednesday was level at 0-0 at half time. Come what may, you will still have another Yorkshire derby match to look forward to next season.

Yes and both easy for me to get to with good chance of tickets.

Barnsley slightly harshly down to 10-men now.

Barnsley denied an absolutely nailed on pen as well. Really, really poor reffing and even worse by the VAR

It has been a great game since though. Barnsley look like they are starting to tire now as we go in to the second period of Added Extra Time...

Indeed, unless football eventually manages to invent or reinstate an alternative way to end tied games I fear many similar outcomes in future.

It wouldn’t help in a cup final, but i do think in the league playoffs the team with the higher league position should win if it’s level after extra time. It rewards league performance, and it would mean an end to the ultra defensive “too scared to attack in case we lose” mindset

If that was in force, would it have meant that Stockport County would have been promoted instead of Carlisle?

Ugh no, that would result in the higher team simply "parking the bus" with ten men in behind the ball. A far better idea would be to go straight to penalties after 90 minutes.

Yes, but extra time would’ve played out very differently as Carlisle would’ve known they had to win the match there.

Ultimately - even setting aside the often dubious entertainment value of extra time at the moment - penalties is such a lottery it feels fairer to reward the team that did best over 46 games

As opposed to both teams parking the bus in the second half of extra time, as often happens now

I'm reminded of the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Some say play-offs are a lottery, but they really aren't. All teams know the situation at the start of the season, and know that if they aren't quite good enough over the 46 games of the regular season they'll have to contend with the play-offs. My team has seen both the good and bad of it, and doing away with them to making a large chunk of the end of season games pointless would be a sledgehammer to crack a non-existent nut.

Same with Bradford City, we've had a couple of brilliant promotions through the playoffs, and some devastating defeats including a couple of weeks ago. But I wouldn't change any of it because it does keep the season alive for a lot more teams right up until the last game of the regular season. That makes for more exciting games, even if sometimes they can be almost heart attack inducing!

Oh please........ Sam did it for money...... and I don't blame him for that......
