I think that may be for the best, Tottenham are no further forwards than they were five years ago, footballing wise at least.

Some sources suggest that Mr. Levy and his family own a 29.4% stake in ENIC International Limited, the Bermudan company that, in turn, owns 85.55% of Tottenham Hotspur. A billionaire called Joe Lewis effectively owns the other 70.6% of ENIC.

So in response to the earlier comment about sacking Levy, it is a tad different than sacking a team manager, as I am sure there would be financial legal requirements on the football club made difficult in turn by the Bermuda offshore home for the involved monies.

Can't see Levy being forced out as THFC Chairman anytime soon, unless at the behest of the Joe Lewis business interest. However, Mr. Lewis is currently 86, so who knows what might happen in a decade or so.

Currently in 5th position in the Premier League, arguably the best league in the world(?) and it still isn’t good enough. I’m sure many on this forum whose team is languishing somewhere in the lower reaches of the football league really feels sorry for Spurs…..

Was there not talk a couple of months ago about the Qatari Sports Investment ( owners of PSG) going on board in a minority shares capacity? There was some serious money being talked about with potential investment.

I've only just realised the FA Cup Final is not until Saturday 3rd June.
I'm pretty sure that way back when I was a lad the Cup Final was the first Saturday in May (or maybe 2nd)

Original final in 1872 was in March.
First final on an April date was in 1880.
First on a date in May was in 1937.
2020 final in August (due to COVID-19).
Think the 2023 FA Cup Final will be the first to be held in June. Presume the Qatar World Cup is/was the cause.
This season is a little stretched due to the World Cup getting in the way, also why the season started in July. Next season should be back to the usual August to May setup.

Apropos Wembley and games very late in the season, the national league season ends this Saturday, but the FA Trophy final isn’t until three weeks after that. Presumably the gap is to accommodate the playoffs, but as neither finalist will be competing in them it means Halifax and Gateshead have a horrible wait

If there was common sense, the Halifax v Gateshead could be played at Elland Road (Leeds Utd) sooner being as both sides are from the Yorkshire and North East Region.

Football fans across the country dream of a Wembley final, even with the added travel. Nobody dreams of seeing their team at a crumbling stadium next to the M621!
For the same reason I'm against the semi-finals of the FA Cup being at Wembley, it devalues the occasion of the final.

Apologies as how I read the post I replied to thought it was a different game taking place there when play offs were mentioned.
I do agree that semi finals should never be played at Wembley (with the exception maybe of London sides as a neutral venue - also there is the Olympic Stadium if it does not involve West Ham). After all, there is an old saying that nobody ever remembers beaten semi finalists.

I'm still bitter about the 2011 League One play-off final being moved to Old Trafford because Wembley had hosted the European Cup final a whole week earlier... or something like that, I forget the exact details but Old Trafford is not a stadium for a special occasion unless you're chasing eggs.
Champions League was the evening of the 28th of May. League 2 playoff was the 28th, League 1 the 29th, Championship the 30th. The Championship playoff was at Wembley, but I can see that playing the other two there wouldn't have worked.

And the FA semi's not being sold out at Wembley when two Northern teams played recently, would support the view that they are better played locally and a smaller venue may be better than a half empty large one.

My quip about Elland Road was a bit facetious I admit... though national team matches are a different matter. I quite like the idea of them moving around the country though, particularly when it comes to friendlies or the glorified friendlies of the Nations League. Even Leeds Road hosted an England game way back in the day. Cup and Play-off finals however (and ONLY the finals) should be held at the national stadium. If there's a clash such as in 2011, move one of the games back a week.

I would guess that this is an opinion shared by the majority of football fans in the country- indeed I suspect that only the higher-ups at the Football Association are in favour of having the semi-finals there too, and even then purely for financial reasons.
When it comes to the finals of the smaller competitions such as the FA Trophy and FA Vase, I can see the argument that Wembley is a bit too large. Indeed the very first football match I attended as a small child was the FA Vase final in 1988 between Emley and Colne Dynamoes, which was held at a half-empty old Wembley.
Perhaps there should be a second "National Stadium" with a capacity of say 45,000 which could hold things like England U-21 games, the semi-pro national team, and the finals of the non-league cup competitions?
By the way, I note that this thread is now at 1,000 pages. With only very rare incidences of anything close to nastiness, this rather puts paid to those who think football fans are a bunch of knuckle-dragging thugs and are scared of a bit of singing on a train!
