Flexible return - change of outbound train?

Purchased a flexible return today on GWR (via LNER).

This is a first class open return.

All outbound were the same after 09.30

As the journey is today can one get an earlier train or must I stick with the booked train?

Or can it be changed at the station?

I am assuming what you have is a First Off Peak Return ticket (if it was 0930 that changed the fare). If so you can use any train within its time restrictions.

If you can post a photo of the ticket with any personal details/reference numbers obscured we can confirm for certain.

The pdf version says the specific train but the eticket doesn't.

For the avoidance of doubt, what are the midweek travel time restrictions for the outward and return legs, for this particular ticket type, between Taunton and London?

Got the earlier train which is over 15 minutes late. So entitled to a partial refund via GWR

Not really sure how I prove that I was on the train as no tickets have been checked.

Or if I scan out at Paddington will that suffice?

There is no need to prove anything. Claims are essentially taken on trust; scan history would trip up a fraudster quickly enough.

Just to be clear technically it is a Delay Repay claim to GWR (as the operator).

Refunds are slightly different and don't apply in this case; refund requests go to the retailer rather than the company travelled with.

If you travel on a train that is not valid by the time restrictions, you can be asked to pay the difference between the price paid and the lowest priced fare that would have been valid.

The time restrictions applicable to the ticket aren't the only thing to consider in the case of a Two Together Railcard though as you also need to consider the T&Cs of the Railcard itself.
