Does anyone know if there’s a more permanent solution coming for the york metro deckers? I assume all these depots will be wanting their repowers at some point, will there be more fleet movements around the country to balance the displacement to york out? Or will a new fleet of buses be ordered / current fleets expanded?
Well all of the Metrodeckers have been removed off Bustimes fleetlist. The reason was given as follows:
Fleet manager has confirmed all of these busses are returning to the manufacture for a fix. It has now been agreed First York are to have replacement vehicles and these buses will not return to York. These are removed from site and not coming back.

University Of York services will return to their term-time timetable and there will be changes to early morning U1 & U2 services from 13th September:
From Sunday 13 September 2026, selected early morning journeys on services U1 and U2 will start from York Railway Station instead of Merchantgate, improving connections for passengers travelling between rail services and the University.

At the same time, all University services will return to their regular term-time timetable, last operated before 6 June 2026.

As a result, York Park & Ride services return to their normal timetable from the same date:
York Park & Ride services return to their standard timetables from Sunday 13 September 2026.
Our temporary uplifted summer timetable comes to an end on Sunday 13 September 2026, with all six York Park & Ride services returning to their standard operating timetables.

This means services 2/2A, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 59 will return to the timetables that were in place before the summer service uplift began in July.

Seems pointless repainting vehicles with the Weaver Network going live in Huddersfield in 8 months time.
Weaver Network will primarily use brand new buses at Weaver Network spec. However, some of the existing fleet will be used (likely the Electroliner fleet in Leeds as an example) and buses like this E400 in Halifax will move elsewhere.
And the quoted vehicle is a Halifax bus
Which won't come under Weaver Network for another 2 years anyway...

The electroliners at Bramley are due to move to Bradford at the start of Phase 1 franchising

Bradford gained funding to electrify the depot in March this year. In May more funding was given and the Bradford Council website has an article that says "Bradford's Buses will transform to zero emission fleet 18 months earlier than planned" https://news.bradford.gov.uk/press-...emission-fleet-18-months-earlier-than-planned
I could be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but the original BBC article posted in March 2026 states "The bus depot on Bowling Back Lane, which will house the buses from October 2028, would undergo upgrades to install advanced chargers and smart charging technology, a spokesperson said" and 18 months before Oct 2028 is april 2027, around the time weaver tranche 1 should be launching. So some of the bramley EVs could move over.

Leeds & Bradford service changes from 25 October:
Leeds:
50 & 50A

Leeds

Journey times will be redistributed on outbound journeys to help improve punctuality and reliability and reduce waiting at the Morris Lane, Kirkstall timing point. Frequency and overall end-to-end journey times remain unchanged.
47 & 47A

Leeds

The first two weekday morning journeys towards White Rose Shopping Centre will operate 16 and 23 minutes earlier respectively. All other journeys remain unchanged.
51 & 52

Elland Road

On matchdays, services will divert for 90 minutes before the match starts, instead of 60 minutes. Services will continue to divert for 60 minutes after the match ends.
55 & 55C

Cottingley

On matchdays, services will divert for 90 minutes before the match starts. An alternative diversion route will also operate to avoid congestion in Holbeck and improve punctuality and reliability.
PR1 & PR3

Leeds Park & Ride

Additional journeys will operate for Leeds Light Night on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October. The last journeys will depart at 23:04 on PR1 and 23:23 on PR3 on both evenings.
Bradford:
72

Bradford

On evening journeys towards Bradford, Leeds Headrow will only be used as a timing point when Leeds Bus Station is closed. Journey times remain unchanged.

These repaints in West Yorkshire will most likey be the last prior to the franchising, I would not at all be suprised to see any former Halifax, Huddersfield or Leeds based buses (usually the better ones) being transfered to places such as York, Weymouth, Worcester or even Taunton to help replace the older fleet there.

I'm still curious over what exactly is happening with the Todmorden outstation, given that its not subject to franchising (whereas Elmwood depot is).

At the moment, what York really needs is clarity over the situation with the Metrodeckers, and whether they will ever return to service ... and I'm sure Leeds and Bristol would like to know if they're ever getting their Repowers back!

With the York depot now being fully electric, they aren't going to want cascaded diesel buses coming in.

The only "older" buses are the Versa EVs, but these are needed for the time being at least as they need to go under the 3.2m bridge on Leeman Road.

I'm not sure what the plans are when the new bridge over the railway opens, there was a suggestion that the 59 P&R buses would switch to using the new road and so could use Kites or other regular single-decker electrics, but that would then leave the Salisbury Terrace area without a bus service.

The buses that are being repainted are primarily older buses (with the exception of the odd Streetdeck Ultroliner being repainted) that still have some life in them to be cascaded elsewhere within First's empire and replace end of life vehicles at various other Opcos. The buses being repainted in West Yorkshire will be too old for the Combined Authority's fleet standards as well, apart from the Streetdeck Ultroliners potentially.

Aa for York. Well, there aren't really any older buses to replace except for the Versas which are needed for the 59. I've seen a lot of rumours that the Metrodeckers are withdrawn permanently and York will keep the WestBus repowers (plus the handful from Leeds) until a more permanent solution is found. Baring in mind that these are purely rumours.

When was the last time you visited York?

The entire fleet already is electric

A good question to which I sadly don't know the answer.

If the 590/1 (in their current form or hopefully better!) are going to be operated entirely from Halifax, then I can only assume First would want to sell the site for development; if not, maybe it could be used by the winners of the local minibus and school buses contracts?

There will certainly be some miffed drivers if the service work is all transferred to Halifax, although I don;t know if the proportion who live locally is as high as it was during my time there.

What is up with some of the buses around Huddersfield that rattle (well, bang) so hard you wish you had earplugs on you?

I know the roads there aren't great but what exactly is banging so violently?

Think it's mostly First's older single deckers (that's as much as I know about bus types)
