Just wondering what the first train of the year was which you got on/saw

First train for me was My Favorite:
142036 HELLFIRE!!!

I got on that one on new years eve between Rochdale and Salford Crescent. The gangway connection was very leaky! The first train of 2012 though was 158758 on new years day. First train I went on was 153324 & 158861 on tuesday.

Mine was 395 007 on 09:28 - 1F23 Faversham - St Pancras International (Today although from Chatham - Stratford International at 09:54)

First sight of the year fell to 158839 working the 0908 ex-Hereford (canna recall what time that was from West Wales) to Manchester Piccadilly on 3rd January. First train I travelled on was 170511 on the 0940 Hereford to Birmingham New Street, travelled on the whole way.

Not likely, highest numbered 156 is 156514. Given that 156401 is an EMT unit, there is a fair chance it was actually 156501.

Especially considering 156501 is a Scotrail machine, which the 0630 Newcastle to Glasgow is booked for I believe. Could have just been a typo mind, but also easy to mis-read a 5 for a 6 when tired!

Exactly my sentiments! Got the whole of Jan off work so until I return I shall be as far away from trains as possible! But when I'm back to work it'll be a week of nights so I can bet the first train I drive will be a class 91

Got it written down as 601, although it was very early on a Saturday.

It'll definitely have been 156501. The 600 series in the Sprinter numbering scheme was saved for SPTs' class 157s that never got ordered.

My first train was a pathetic pacer from Reddish North to Man Pic. Highly uneventful. However a few days later I'd rather say my first train this year was a Hymek D7076 from Bury - Rawtenstall as I was driving it!

Not travelled on any trains yet this year so far - the first is highly likely to be the train to the GMPTE Challenge, unless something crops up in the meantime.

As for first spot, I have no idea. Seen oodles of 185's and 144's plus a freight, but from an office window. The only one I can say for sure I have seen is 185108 (thanks to its special livery) but that wasn't the first

first observed - an HST thundering through Portobello JN0with a long long blast on the horn as it worked one of the few northbound runs from KGX on the first. A great sound having just returned home from celebrating!

First bash was to my shame a 180 from Dunbar to EDB. Things have however improved since as have been working in Helensburgh and deliberately delayed my return home to get the skip on the Caly. Did this 3 nights on the trot with the same grip each time! he even said I could0eat in the lounge if I wished!
scotrail are clearly doing surprises this year as I note sprinterguy got a 170??? On the GLC-EDB. V unusual!

Although nowhere near my first train, my first and so far only Pacer was 142071 from Doncaster to Sheffield on 13/01/12. Bouncy, bouncy!

I'm sure it'll be first of many!

Mine was a grotty disgusting NXEA 153, still in Anglia colours, from Sudbury to Marks Tey. :P
