I remember too when Fife Scottish (Now Stagecoach East Scotland) registered journeys on eleven services competing with tendered journeys operated by Moffat and Williamson. M&W complained to the OFT, who ruled in their favour, and placed covenants on Fife Scottish from January 1994 until January 1997, restricting fares and cuts to frequencies on commercial journeys competing against tendered journeys.
What was more interesting was, M&W withdrew most of their services in July 1994, including the aforementioned journeys, and Fife Scottish requested the OFT release them from the covenants, as M&W had withdrew their services that were the subject of the complaint. Fife Scottish claimed that M&W were planning to withdraw them before the complaint, according to a local newspaper report at the time. The OFT agreed, and released Fife Scottish from the covenants.
But on another similarity, more recently, when the ill fated Fife First operation withdrew its service 56 in summer 2000, Stagecoach Fife reduced the frequency of its route 19, from every 7/8 minutes to every 10 minutes, though the service frequency beyond Dunfermline to Rosyth was doubled from every 20 minutes to every 10 minutes. These changes took place 6 weeks after Fifefirst had gone.
