Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
8 of the Streetdecks are heading to Norwich, to operate the 11/11A Pink Line services, and therefore will be in the route-branded Olympia livery that's being rolled out across Norwich.

My guess is this will release a bunch of Plaxton Presidents (both B7TLs and Tridents) for cascade to Kernow, replacing Olympians.

Some good news with some even better news:

http://www.falkirkherald.co.uk/news...lion-spend-on-new-buses-for-falkirk-1-3792669

A £6 million spend on a fleet of new state-of-the-art buses will put Falkirk passengers first – at last!

After years of complaints about the state of the vehicles carrying them around the district, local customers finally have something to smile about.

Bosses at First Scotland East have confirmed the lion’s share of the bumper order they have just placed with Alexander Dennis Limited in Camelon will be handed over to local operators First Midland Bluebird as soon as they start rolling off the production line at the end of next month.

Of the 31 state of the art single and double deckers to be assembled by ADL at its Glasgow Road works, 26 will carry the famous Bluebird livery.

In addition, another 15 ‘nearly new’ single deck buses will be relocated to run on Falkirk routes as soon as they have been refurbished.

The brand new buses will be fitted with CCTV and leather seats, offer free Wi-Fi and provide more dedicated space for wheelchair users and passengers with pushchairs.

They will also be low carbon eco-friendly buses powered by the latest low emission engines to be developed by ADL.

Paul McGowan, managing director of First Scotland East said: “Our £6 million investment underlines our continuing determination to provide ever better bus services in our area and encourage more people to travel with us.

“These new vehicles will be among the best and most eco-friendly in the country and will allow our passengers to enjoy pleasant, more comfortable journeys while taking advantage of the free internet access as they travel. We think it is all great news for them.”

Colin Robertson, chief executive of ADL, said: “We’re delighted to have won this very significant order and be continuing our long established and thriving relationship with FirstGroup.

“It’s a huge endorsement of our new generation market-leading midi and double deck buses and a further demonstration of FirstGroup’s commitment to the green technologies of tomorrow.

“It also should not be forgotten that orders like this support 2000 ADL jobs in the UK and thousands more in our extensive supplier network.”

The latest investment in Scotland East is part of a £78 million spend by FirstGroup’s UK bus division to replace nearly 390 buses this financial year. In the last five years it has ploughed nearly £385 million on a fleet of over 2200 buses.

It now has the largest fleet of low carbon certified buses in the UK.

Local passengers have been complaining for years about the condition of the ageing Bluebird fleet.

Complaints about buses failing to turn up because they had broken down and claims not enough were available to maintain services because they were garaged for repairs have led to the Traffic Commissioner taking action to warn the company to improve standards.

After a passenger hit out in April about the nightmare ride he had on 20-year-old double decker from Stenhousemuir to Dunipace First Midland Bluebird promised action.

Now it has delivered!

With effect from 13/07/2015 First Bus have lost the following supported/tendered routes in the Bracknell area to Courtney: -
53
108
151
151A
153
Some of these will be renumbered, Courtney now operate all supported routes in & around Bracknell.
I don't know the PVR but it won't be huge, I would imagine a few E200s will transfer out, possibly to Slough.
First in Bracknell are left with the following routes: -
90
94
191
701/702 Green Line
B1/2/3/5 local routes
Assume all of the above are run 'Comercially'.
Plus dedicated Schoolbuses (uncertain of current status)
The Reading - Heathrow RailAir coach operation continues and is based at Reading Buses depot.

Wow, that is a surprise given it is understood that there are no new deckers for FWY this time around, and only 19 Streetlites.

Given FWY still have a number of Olympians soldiering on, I didn't expect FK's Olympian replacements to be coming from there.....................

These cascades are going to be seriously complicated!

Are the FWY Olympians confined to schools work? Might not be so worried about getting rid of them at the moment. Looks like they'll be a slaughter of the FK Olympians (as promised) and perhaps that's about due seeing as it's not great seeing K reg Olympians in all day service and it's not difficult to find N/P reg ones working all hours.

Not sure TBH. My impression is that they are predominantly on schools but not exclusively.

FWY has a large number of W reg. B7TLs so I assume it will be some of these.

I completely support what FK are doing, and am pleasantly surprised at the pace they are doing it at!

Has there ever been any indication that the Platinum concept introduced in Aberdeen might be rolled out nationally? AFAIK, it has been pretty successful in Aberdeen and the Gold and Sapphire concepts seem to be working well for Stagecoach and Arriva. There must be a fair number of urban and inter-urban routes across most operating companies that could benefit from a bit of love. It seems as if Platinum might just be another of First’s great new ideas that just end up dying a death through lack of interest/follow through.

To be brutally honest, Gold or Sapphire (or Max) is really much the same in terms of vehicle spec as standard First (e.g. eLeather, Wifi, etc). You could argue that Gold is a marketing exercise and promotes as special what is increasingly seen as the norm!

In the North East, you're seeing a raft of Arriva Sapphire and Max routes, so much so that non spec routes are almost looking like poor relations

Fair enough – and I’m probably guilty here of being a wee bit too anti-First. The spec on recent stock is excellent, and the transformation in the fleets which have had significant numbers of new vehicles is astonishing (Weymouth, anyone?). What prompted this was the revelation about the Streetdecks on the 376 at Wells. Stagecoach have done wonders with their Gold 66 at Swindon (and elsewhere), and First seems to have been slow to adopt similar tactics to drive additional growth – feel sure that under Stagecoach the 376 would be a no-brainer for a Gold route. But things are changing; there are signs of life in parts of First that seemed to be in serious decline a few years ago. Maybe it isn’t Platinum that’s needed, just a dose of the marketing skills that Stagecoach seem to have in spades.

You only have to look at North Devon to see the difference in management styles between First and Stagecoach.

Well, funnily enough, I've drawn the same parallel before between the 66 and the 376.

The 66 was an hourly service with PS's that went to every 30 mins with a bit of pump priming from Oxfordshire CC (and poss a bit from Wiltshire?) with e300s. Such was the growth that it went to Gold deckers and there was talk of it going to every 20 mins when it got some additional deckers last year but that was confined to peak hours uplift only.

The 376 had a similar trajectory in that it was hourly and went to half hourly in 1998 and that certainly had an impact on travelling figures, helped by some SCC pump priming for Sunday services etc. However, it was clearly hitting capacity and it was either a higher frequency or deckers (though the latter seemed to have been precluded by the restricted height of Wells depot). Glad they're making the investment and I think it will continue to grow

I've said for a long while that First didn't get themselves into a whole in a year or two. It was a process over time caused mainly IMO by the management style and decisions of Moir. Engendering a new culture and undoing the past mistakes was always going to take some time and a lot of people will need to be convinced that it's not the same old First. You can understand the reticence to believe it but I do take issue with those who either refuse to believe anything has changed or simply look at anything that hasn't changed yet/gone wrong. Clearly, there's still a bit to do on age profile and there will be some reverses - not every change works out as hoped! And in some cases, they'll be some cuts if only to remove the gangrenous limbs that are affecting the good body of business.

Is it definitely West Yorkshire as they've only got some Streetlites on order and they are replacing single decks (B10BLEs) Maybe South Yorkshire instead?

Unless the buses displaced on the X78 in South Yorkshire are moving to West Yorkshire?

Olympians are mostly used on schools in West Yorkshire, in Huddersfield there might be 2 or 3 in normal use, slightly fewer in Halifax, shouldn't be any in public use in Bradford and Leeds is fully low floor.

It’s a strange one.

First have been really keen to differentiate routes in the past with special liveries for different things (remember the way that the original “Barbie” colour scheme wasn’t as simple as “low floor”, it was “low floor, if the vehicle’s interior is First Group corporate purple seating, plus also some high floor double deckers with purple seats” – i.e. there were low floor buses that didn’t qualify as they were inherited when First took over other companies and therefore retained their “original” seating – but the new colour scheme did apply to step entrance double deckers like Royales – which may make an interesting Venn Diagram for enthusiasts, but is of precious little use if you are a parent with a buggy trying to work out whether you need to turf your toddler out or not as you see the bus approach your stop.

IIRC we’ve seen special First liveries for environmentally friendly buses, vehicles with guidewheels etc, we’ve seen various different train liveries with different applications of purple/ pink – it’s been a lot messier than the fairly straightforward Stagecoach approach (all trains in Stagecoach branded TOCs have been seen the three corporate colours applied into a “fast white”/ “medium distance blue” / “local red” version – easily identified as Stagecoach - Sheffield Supertram is the same “medium distance” blue version of the train livery – even the different bus liveries like the green “hybrid” E400Hs on my local route still look “Stagecoach”).

Similarly, the Stagecoach approach to their “beachball” livery seemed to have some logic to it at first, ensuring that the oldest vehicles continued to be painted in the “striped” livery, so that the “dynamic modern” beachball was only associated with newer buses (can’t remember what the cut-off was in terms of age when the beachball livery was introduced, sorry, but at least they tried to restrict the new colours to newer vehicles).

THEN, First come up with their lilac livery – fair enough – time for a change (even if it was too bland and the rear design seemed more about suiting the “Wright” badge of double deckers so that it didn’t work so well on other vehicles as well). A new livery made sense (Barbie had been around for fifteen years, which is a lot longer than a lot of “much loved” post-privatisation colour schemes ever lasted and longer than a few British Rail liveries lasted). BUT, First threw the new colours on *anything* - R-reg B10BLEs were some of the first to get the lilac treatment in Sheffield whilst Geminis remained untouched. There seemed to be no logic to it.

This would have been the perfect time to restrict the new colours to only buses with leather seats/ wifi, so that people would associate the new livery with the premium offering. Except that First (in an unusual move) seem to make no distinction between their new standards and wheezing old buses from the 1990s – everything gets the same livery.

Stagecoach have been a lot slower to introduce the leather seated treatment, but make a huge song and dance out of it, with the “GOLD” livery. My other half suggested that we could have a day out on the heavily branded E400 we saw in Sheffield City Centre recently (heading to Matlock on the X17)...

...until I pointed out that the wifi/ seats were just like the ones we use most days on our local First route – but Stagecoach make much more of a deal about their (more limited) premium operations so “non bus people” notice them a lot more. First, once masters of hype, have underplayed this Great Leap Forward.

As TheGrandWazoo says, this kind of specification is becoming “the norm” on a significant number of new buses in the UK (although to read the “Todmordon Chord” thread on this Forum, you’d think the Transdev X43 were in some way unique!) – which improves the offering on bus services compared with most trains (in the same way that there’s probably a much bigger percentage of trains in northern England that have “bus seats” compared to buses still running that have that kind of bench seating!).

Stagecoach seem more reluctant to invest heavily in leather seats, maybe in the same way that they continued buying high floor buses (B10Ms) in the late '90s whilst First started buying low floor vehicles in large numbers (though whether the early “Super Low Floor” Darts have stood the test of time is perhaps another story).

It seems slightly odd that Stagecoach seem a bit more reluctant to change the internals on vehicles when they appear (to me) to be more innovative in terms of other offerings (TaxiBus/ MegaBus/ MagicBus/ MegaBusGold/ MegaTrain), but maybe they think that tailored offerings will turn more heads than applying it indiscriminately in larger numbers?

(I preferred the “non-Barbie” liveries of the late ‘90s where First had a white/off-white/cream base and two or three bold colours along the bottom which often rose toward the back of the vehicle – e.g. the yellow/orange/red of “Leeds”, the yellow/ green/ blue of “Edinburgh”, the grey/ blue/ green of Great Eastern trains – they were “local” but the three striped colours looked quite “First” – sometimes with a willowleaf incorporated – a nice compromise between over-complicated brandings that Trent Barton/ GoAhead use and the dullness of great slabs of one colour like First’s operations in Manchester/ Glasgow had at that time)

Yes, it is definitely West Yorkshire. There are multiple cascades occurring - it isn't just new buses that are releasing buses for onward transfer.

Is the current livery even national used now? FSE seems to have dropped it, and I've notice a few other places sweeping it under the carpet.

Part of the reason is many passengers dislike the leather seats, and that no joke. Maybe stagecoach just wants to give the high class treatment to passengers and routes it know who would really benefit this sort of improvements. I doubt half the people care about the seats in Glasgow! Stagecoach are rolling out Wifi on to normal but selective bus routes.

Mind you give me a T type seat any day. ;)

PS (high floor buses B10Ms) provided well over 15 years worth of service, and did a grand job on many interurban routes. I bet you cant say the same for many of the 96/97 low floor vehicles First brought.

Stagecoach seem a bit more reluctant to change the internals on vehicles when they appear (to me) to be more innovative in terms of other offerings (TaxiBus/ MegaBus/ MagicBus/ MegaBusGold/ MegaTrain), but maybe they think that tailored offerings will turn more heads than applying it indiscriminately in larger umbers?

Part of that reason was to give people the knowledge there were getting a Stagecoach back service and not here today taken you money with no service tomorrow company.

Noticed that there have been some service reductions in the Buses of Somerset operations. Is this due to Webberbus gaining ground, or Webberbus pulling out, or even just BOS being over-optimistic?

On the topic of liveries, I remember the GRT style corporate livery, which was the basic company colours, with a band in two colours below the windows, with the rear being a block of the two shades. It was upswept towards the rear, and then carried on above the windows.

It was one good idea from GRT, keeping the idea of a GRT group bus, but with local livery. Perhaps an idea for First?

Badgerline also did it with common schemes for 3 East Anglian firms.

As for BoS, there's a number of reasons. Cuts in LA subsidy affected some routes (Wells and Axminster). Over optimism on others (Creech, Somerton and Wells). Admission of defeat (Bridgwater to Watchet). However, other cuts point to poor ridership on core network (Taunton locals). No apparent weakening from Webberbus whilst BoS have benefitted form the Hinckley Point project with works services

Is it not council cuts?

Only one aspect - see my more detailed response.

I would say that First's new corporate interiors are not to the same higher standard of Stagecoach Gold. Mainly due to the garish use of pink for the handrails and whilst Stagecoach use proper coach high backed seats (without the trimmings) First use a basic Civic seat with a head rest. The Best Impressions Gold livery is one of the more superior liveries around, whilst First's new lilac livery is shockingly bland and Ray Stenning's reworking of it for First Potteries shows how much better it could have been.

Leather seats do not wear well, just look on a secondhand coach sales website at how the leather 'moves' on a 5 year old vehicle. It's interesting to note that coach operators are moving to part leather seating in recent times - exactly what I did when I specified my Audi A3 a few years ago. Also the colours that bus managers specify their interiors in, the oranges, pinks ultramarines, would the same managers specify their company car BMWs, Audis etc with similar interiors?

Stagecoach needs to update its standard interior - its shockingly garish and Joe public would not realise that their 04 registered ALX300 had been replaced by a 14 registered Enviro300 as the interior is identical! Even a friend of mine who is a transport enthusiast boarded a new Stagecoach East X5 Plaxton Elite in a hurry and once seated thought he was in one of the older B9/Panthers as the interior was too similar....
