There was a Sheffield driver who posted on this forum. His view was that they were ok, depending on the engine, but acknowledged that the brakes/retarder were harsh.
70101 was on the 31 all the time not the 5, The Leicester Reds E400 was strictly kept on the 5, there was once it went on a 60A but only to cover a breakdown
If that’s true then they’ve overlooked some better products available to buy in the market. A missed opportunity.
One of the better ones, despite the fact Glasgow haven’t even given the time to repaint it out of the Aberdeen 23 route livery.I wouldn't exactly call the Ex-Glasgow E300s solid underneath... The outgoing Streetlites are better in that regard, but the running gear itself is better on the E300s.
Aberdeen have been wanting to standardise the diesel single deck fleet on the E300s for quite some time. When looked after they're very reliable and cheap to run, albeit since the fitting of the Euro 6 exhaust systems they've been plagued by emissions lights. The Streetlites in comparison are not as reliable and not really suited to the Aberdeen network with their cramped interiors.
To be fair 63208 is one of the better ones. The Streetlites vary depending on the gearbox programme as not all of them are the same, it tends to be that you either get one that's fast and jumpy or sluggish but less jumpy.
Glasgow have actually done not too bad with the Ex-Aberdeen Streetlites. Most of the ones they've received are the better ones of the batch. 63209 in particuarly was very good. In contrast Halifax getting 63194 and 63196 is rather unfortunate for them.
The drivers at Scotstoun have said they’ll be happy for when the Streetdeck Repowers arrive and get rid of some of the E300s there.
I know this was the case before it was decided ADL Camelon would remain open. I imagine First will be under pressure to order locally.
It’s 17-18 year old Geminis that are likely to be replaced.
They only have like a handful of those Gemini left anyway.

If you read the post it is in reply to you will see the comment about 63208 was in regard to performance, the exterior colour of the bus is irrelevent.
I use the First App in Duke St. If there's a bus shown and its actually moving on the map then I wait. Usually I walk as its about as quick as the bus and there's no standing around
Walking isn't an option as I am going cross city and I would rather not walk that. The map on the app wasn't loading , but there is still no excuse for no buses on a major road for over an hour your talking multiple 41s , 60s and 60A's failing to run in both directions.
The 201 would be a good contender for electric buses once Blantyre goes electric. The E300s are ageing.
Streetlites are also on it.
There has been at least one decker on a Sunday for a good few weeks now. Week day allocations are sporadic.
Given the length of the route, would the batteries last?
Depends which buses they order. If they’re sensible and get the correct range - anything is possible.

Green Essex Streetlites 14 plates have a nice interior I'm sure that batch had a slight refurbishment a few years back when they where at Southampton, also have the White LED hanovers, good to see a shuffle about of more quirky stuff rather than it just being your bog standard Wright and ADL stuff, Fleet has been boring for years
