They might not be too bad on mileage as Airport isn’t too far from the City. They should also be in better condition than similar aged vehicles that do city work. Travelling up and down the M8 all day will see them limited to pothole roads only within the City Centre.
The original airport E300s were replaced after about 6 years and then further replaced 3 years later in 2019 as the route required deckers. It depends on when the tender is up for renewal normally that instigates new stock. The current E400City’s are lovely buses.

Glasgow Airport is so dead now it’s a wonder 10 buses are even needed.

Glasgow since covid is much quieter as its Airport never recovered while Edinburgh's has. Outwith the summer locations around the Med, Glasgow doesn’t have much to offer. There are lots more destinations to cities from Edinburgh and better links into the Centre of Edinburgh too, like the tram or Airlink 100.

Glasgow was to get a railway connection and this was scrapped. I wonder if this would have made a positive impact if completed.

I should imagine that the airport will want this to go electric next time around, whether there's an electric suitable for the service is another matter

Glasgow Airport still has a fair few passengers - dead is more appropriate to Prestwick! The last time I was on the airlink bus coming back from Dublin it was fairly busy too.

There was an E400EV trialed on the route about a year or so ago. I imagine anything new would be the new generation E200EV however which would allow for more luggage rack space.

Yes, the Glasgow Airport bus can be busy in the evening from the airport when the frequency lowers.
Yes, the airport is quiet at times. Can't imagine the rail link being busy now.

The bus to Edinburgh airport can be really busy too.

The route is currently out to tender, with the new contract expected to start at the beginning of next year.

Is 37470 out in service now? Cause Bustimes says it’s tracking on the 18.
Bustimes is all over the place with Glasgow at the minute. Overtown has not tracked for around a month unless it’s a 240 and occasional 266. Lanarkshire locals showing nothing.

Is there a bothy in East Kilbride, as I seen a few First Glasgow buses run into the industrial estate behind the range at Nerston?

Yes it’s been there since 2009/10 when Blantyre started to share the 18 and 20. Eventually took on all the 18 and the 21 (previously 20).

yes. Service 34 usually is EV operated till the last trip.
No 34 yesterday, but some 9s and a 38c.
The vehicles usually have a later start in the Day and can work later in the Day.

Remember being on a 2 at 2230 at night.

So whilst not a big user in numbers there are limited ones each Day.

Occasionally it's an electric but the last one in Castlemilk direction is for the most part is Diesel it runs dead from Carmunnock Road to Greenhills to do the last 18 from there to George Square
yes. but in the winter that is usually swapped with a decker meeting the driver at Ardencraig Rd roundabout.

Is there a reason why First don’t just swap EVs out for other EVs which have been charging in the depot in the meantime? On routes like the 2, 60, 61 at least it’s mainly diesels by night and by night I mean around 7pm. Is it just convenience? When the inevitable comes and diesels are phased out they will have no other option.

That would be an ideal thing to do but in reality it can be a little more difficult as you need extra drivers to swap vehicles around and they want to keep the dead mileage to a minimum. It's probably something that will happen when the fleets fully electric with drivers out after 8pm taking a bus from the depot instead of street changeovers

Once buses are shunted (refuelled and cleaned) and defect cards get removed they do not go back out in service. This is the same with EVs that will be parked up after being shunted and won’t go back out in service until the following day. Only buses lined up before the shunters take it can go back out in service.
Occasionally some running boards have buses that are brought back to depot but are to return back in service. They can ended up shunted if a driver leaves the bus for the shunters while the running board goes to the office. The next driver then can only go and find a bus pre shunted to go back out in service.

Why do Caley do a run on the 18? Is there not enough resource at Blantyre?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

I could be wrong but when ever I catch a 267 or 263 in the evening its always a single decker.

They've always done peak runs on the 18 and that last one at night from EK they do the 21 as well.

Anything can turn up on the 263 or the 267 I've had double deckers on both in the evenings.

I wonder why bustimes haven’t tracked 37467 at all, even though it’s been in service with Glasgow for a bit now.

Defect cards were replaced several years ago all defects are registered on the ticket machine

What if the ticket machine is the defect then? How would they keep a log of it not working?
Defective ticket machine means he vehicle is taken off service straight away. No vehicle is allowed out the depot without one, even if the vehicle isn't being used for service.

All defects logged on machine are instantly sent to a central server which can be accessed anywhere

This is untrue buses can run with a defective machine.
