I'm not being rude at all but I totally disagree with what you're saying. I'm not going to suggest ideas because I think it's better to establish some stability instead of change for change's sake.

I wouldn't say you were being rude if you weren't just saying. I didn't think you'd suggest anything either. I'd like stability more than anything but when there's PVR to be cut anything is possible and all I done was suggest a few things none of which I claimed would definitely happen. The 3,6/6A and 267 spend a lot of time on holiday timetables as it is so them being cut isn't that out there although nothing is impossible with First anymore

I'd hardly call myself an enthusiast I've just had to rely on First constantly and I came across this site by accident while looking up something to do with changes.

Given that you're averaging NINE posts a day, all on First Glasgow, I don't think you can be classed as some average punter ;)

That's not a criticism - just that your view on what a typical passenger might want may well be different from your view

Thats a quieter section of the 6 . Southside section is quieter.
How many punters go from Busby to great Western Rd?

How many from Clydebank to EK?

I've never understood why we don't simply get the 6 split up into two routes, EK to Sauchiehall St for example where the 18 terminates and the 6 or alternative, much of GWR is an affluant area, I can't imagen many traveling from there to Clydebank, and anyone from Clydebank wanting likely Scotstoun, Partick or the city centre will likely use other services, with maybe only a few peak journeys that may need to go to Gartnavel perhaps.

I wouldn't say I'm the average punter at all but enthusiast is a stretch. I just always want to keep up to date more than anything. The only thing I want is consistent reliability and the cool thing with most of the buses I use is that they turn up when the next one is due most of the time

I've done Scotstoun West to Calderwood twice but I don't think it's a journey anyone would ever do. We had a split with the 20 back for Simplicity too when the 21 was introduced so it would make perfect sense to split it.

EK to the top of Hope St to then start at Renfrew St and Cochrane St to Clydebank would be sufficient enough

I remember about 7-8 years ago the 20 (which also ran along Gt Western Road) was split in the city as the 20 Drumchapel to George Square and 21 Wellington Street to East Kilbride. Around the same time the 255 and 267 were split at Hamilton/Motherwell. I assume this was done with the aim to improve reliability. It's possible they considered carrying out a similar exercise to the then numbered 66 (now 6) but probably thought it wasn't worth the risk as there was enough cross-town demand ie students from the southside to the westend but as some have mentioned on this forum some things don't stay the same forever and travel patterns do change.

If anything the success of the subway has really cut the use of the 4/4A and 6 around the top of the West End. The 2/3/77 still do well at the bottom end through Kelvinhall and Partick though. Not a surprise because Great Western Road can be ridiculously congested around peaks too so it's a no brainer to use the subway plus it's fairly cheap

If you think the 6 is long there used to be routes like this

Strathclyde's Buses
1 Glenburn - Sandyhills
4 Erskine - Easterhouse
11 Parkhall - Abronhill
19 Drumchapel - Little Earnock via Clyde Tunnel and Mount Florida
39 Garthamlock - Bridge of Weir
54 Summerston - Spateston/Kilbarchan
58 Balloch - Burnide
62 Faifley - Petersburn
73 Eaglesham - Lennoxtown
93 Drumchapel - West Crindledyke

Central Scottish
138 Calderwood - Faifley
139 Calderwood - Duntocher

Forgive me, this might not be 100% accurate but it's close to what I remember.

Clydebank to Ek doubt many would .

Busby to West End , yes its a viable journey , done it from EK ,saves me changing bus .Only 10 15 mins further from town.

Christ some of those are interesting. Considering I was only born in 94 I don't either think I was alive for any of these either

That's already congested with McGill's Buses so it would have to be BBS or Douglas Street if the 10s aren't causing an issue.

BBS is a shout tbh. When I mentioned Hope St I was thinking more where the current 6/6A bus stop is as Renfrew St is crowded with Mcgills as you say. It's such a hard thing to get right in the city centre. So many terminus spots but not many ideal ones

It competed with Kelvin and Clydeside in the late 80s. At the same time Kelvin tried routes to the likes of Milton and Easterhouse. Clydeside ran to Balornock and Garthamlock.

I remember the Central routes back in the 70s. Most of the new Strathclyde routes started in 1986 when deregulation was up and running.

Certainly interesting anyway. Doubt we will ever see routes like that again other than the long ones we currently have. If City Centre congestion wasn't such an issue it would maybe happen but definitely very unlikely just now

9/9a going to double dockers would be a overkill on that route

If it was cut to what he suggested it would also be frequency drop from every 10 mins to 15 mins for each service though so deckers would make up for the fact there would be 4 less buses an hour combined

Weekly Update

Caley to Scrap: 33353/60/62/67/71/75
Livingston/Caley to Blantyre: 33441/33442, 37184
Livingston to Caley: 33431/32/33/34/35/39/40
**few still to leave** Caley/Blantyre to Bristol: 32619/21/24/25/70/77/83, 37181/37182

Blantyre/Overtown/Dumbarton & Scotstoun have upcoming fleet movements but no information just yet.

Most of the movements I believe is vehicles to Caley for repaint and return which is currently already started.
More changes on the way heard it is newer singles that are due to arrive to replace some older one's no 100per cent sure were from anyone know about the double deckers from Leeds?

Of note is that for the last week Dumbarton have been down to two B10BLEs in Barbie, it will be interesting to see if one of the remaining pair disappears tomorrow as that will make it one a week for the last 3 weeks.

A good move tbh. Used to see a B10BLE or two on peak services for the 1/1A etc and I've used a few on the 206. Served First well but might be time to move out. Would also explain why recently there's been a 9 branded bus on 1/1A at peaks too and occasional other buses that aren't E300s too

Generally speaking yes I don't think deckers are needed on the 9s, however I don't see McGills or First really being what I would call serious about Paisley Rd West given that they both use older vehicle yet what they do instead is just swamp the roads with singles.

First or McGills don't have much in the way of what you maybe call a stand out feature, bonus or quality...

If either of them reduce the frequency of the 9s or 38s they rick giving the other revenue, certainly from oldies with concession cards.

I can see one of them putting new buses on that route eventually given the fact it's already been rumoured for First and if I remember correctly it's been discussed on here about that possibility. I wonder who would cave in first and make a change to their service on Paisley Road West. It's been a good battle between the 2 companies for a good few years tbh and probably the longest battle we've had between the 2 companies

The way it sounds as if it is going in terms of trying to cut PVR's etc, I could see IF they could do it a City Centre worked sort of network where most if not all services end up terminating in the town and that being the changeover spot for everyone i think if i remember rightly they tend to do this in Ireland quite a lot where there is few cross city buses and most terminate somewhere in the centres, whether it be at bus stations or just bus stands and there has been evidence that they have done this in the past with for eg splitting the 10/87 etc but i dont know what if any help that is in terms of getting PVR's down especially if the split services have roughly the same frequency as the "old" through service. The only thing i would say is in regards to BBS there is the stance fees to think about with that so First would i think be more than likely to try just use normal streets with bus stands within the town.

Would there even be any space to terminate in BBS too anymore? Most stances certainly have a lot of buses or frequent services occupying them although there's going to be a spare spot now with the X1 going off. The 10/87 split helped massively with reliability too and the 10/57 split at Silverburn has also contributed to that. I used to go to Cardonald College and the worst thing about it was how unreliable a 10 was even at every 12mins due to it being late on the 57 run from Auchinairn. It was also just as bad towards Cardonald because of the traffic getting off of Springburn Road onto Baird St as a lot of vehicles go onto the M8 from Springburn at peaks.

I think bus stands could work around the City Centre as the likes of Osborne St and Renfrew St show but it would take cars being banned from the city centre and idling of taxis to be taken out to create the space for more of them. It would also back First into a corner in terms of single fares as a lot of people may want to go further than their bus into the city centre goes. For example, a bus might terminate at Renfield St but they want to go to Stockwell St etc. Would add massive value to all day tickets and monthly/10 weekly passes though

A bus enthusiast? I think someone who has posted 679 times on the same subject (I.e. First Glasgow) is much more than just wanting to keep up to date.

Hence why these ideas and the like have to be viewed through that prism. People who aren’t bus enthusiasts don’t go onto forums or spend their waking hours thinking about bus networks.

I post in response more than anything and when I do have ideas etc it doesn't take me long to post those ideas. I don't spend anywhere near as much time on those ideas. I'm free a lot at the minute too so that's also a factor plus with service changes not too far away I would want to keep up to date with that. I'm definitely not an enthusiast though. Even with things like types of buses, VOSA etc. I barely knew what any of them were except the ones that say their type on them and with VOSA I discovered what it was through this forum. Never looked into it before at all

Also remember I found this site by accident and I don't have much experience of transport outside of First so naturally I'm going to post on what I use most. I've used Lothian like twice and First Scotland East a handful of times for Stirling and Falkirk but that's it
