Suppose to be 43 E400 MMC and 32 E200s MMC.

Specs for the E200 not been mentioned but as 7 are for the 242 I guess these 7 could be 9.7m

Is this the same 242 that according to you wasn’t getting new buses? Will await your apology to the ppl you shot down for even suggesting it!

Whatever the truth, new buses for the 242 would be a real headscratcher – are Maxim Park able to specify a minimum standard of vehicle? Whenever I see the 242 round Motherwell or Wishaw it isn’t exactly overburdened with passengers – although I think First have won a lot of the Holytown trade from Coakley. 266 could do with something newer (and some branding?) to compete with JMB (who seem to run rings round First with their 56).

Maxim Park did specify a certain criteria of bus as its their contract, the 242 does well in Holytown and New Stevenson but after that nothing

Found this photo on Flickr - looks like quite a few MMCs for the 75 have arrived now, looking pretty nice! Not my photo.

JMB don't run rings around First with their 56 JMB do that themselves with the JMB 240/56 First 266 is only in Shotts purely for political reasons
First 241 slowly grinded down the 56 in NM even the passengers are petitioning to get the 6 out of the North given its had numerous RTC because of the speed its travelling at to beat the 241 on Logans road...the JMB 240 isn't touching the First 240 ..watch out more FirstBus weight about to pound JMB shortly

new buses go on the road on wednesday

https://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news...clean-air-as-they-drive-to-launch-in-glasgow/
First Group is launching the first batch of buses to meet the strict Low Emission Zone criteria which will take effect at the end of the year.

The first phase will see 25 new vehicles which comply with Euro 6 standards will be in service on Wednesday.

First said the new buses as well as being cleaner themselves also have filters fitted which take in air and fumes from other vehicles in front and cleans it by trapping harmful particles before releasing it out the back.

First will be running the buses on the 75 route ....

Be interesting to see what First do to fight back. JMB’s main money-maker must be the 41. Busy enough to justify buying a few new E200’s. Competing on the Lanark run hasn’t worked out well for First in the past, but they might be tempted to have another go to undermine JMB. McKindless struggled after First expanded in Lanarkshire about a decade ago, so maybe history will repeat itself.

I see an ex-Yorkshire 53 plate B7TL has received the new livery. It looks great! Wonder what their plans are for them now that the 18 is getting new E400MMCs? They are extremely tired ok the inside they could have did with a refurb but doubt there’s much point now that they’re almost 15 years old! I much prefer it on the these buses than the E300s which I don’t think suit it at all.

This really does seem odd that First have only just finished painting their buses into the Olympia livery and now they’re changing them all to this new one... Wonder if the new E200s will be delivered in this livery?

The E400s have the new livery so I would imagine the 200s would have it aswell.

I think it will be a case of a slow roll out over time, so the vehicles recently painted in to Olympia won't be in the new livery for quite some time.

Article about FG and the new LEZ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-45784417
BBC Article said:
Glasgow's biggest bus operator has said it is facing a bill of £100m over the next five years in order to meet strict new rules on air pollution.

One might suggest if there had been a steadier programme of fleet renewal over the last few years then this bill would have been rather smaller

They are not buying any more buses per year than they should be buying anyway with the fleet size and age profile.

Went to the bus Launch this morning (about 8ish), advertised as 7am-7pm, not much going on this morning, couldn't even get in to see the new bus yet (Just one 75).
With the weather as horrible as it is wonder if the turnout during the day will be much.

Anyway clever promotional work with the bus still in it's box > https://flic.kr/p/PHWTcY

On another note the barcode on the box shows: 75 18 65 242 34 (I think that may confirm the routes) > https://flic.kr/p/2atpc1D

This LEZ programme has given First Bus the proverbial boot up the backside in terms of its fleet. First in general have been lazy with their fleet renewal in recent years let alone just First Glasgow. The ex-London stock should never have come to a huge city like Glasgow after being battered on the routes they were on. Buses weren’t refurbished and if they were not very well. We went back to the early 00s uncomfortable seating on most of the Tridents. Busy routes that could have prospered are still receiving the oldest stock there is. The 61/60 are still running with 53 plate ALX400s, older B7TLs and quite often 51 plates.

Perhaps once the target is met they’ll consider not getting into this mess again...

How big is the fleet and how many need replaced annually to keep at an average age of say 8 years?

The quoted fleet is 850 in total (including buses not in the low emissions zone).

It wasn't laziness that got them into the mess with fleet replacement. It was a couple of things that also link into your other points.

Under Lockhead, they got obsessed with being the biggest player. That meant going round gobbling up various businesses at not the best price, borrowing to fund this and also spending money putting them right. That was bad enough with smaller businesses but then came the Laidlaw purchase that has proved to be the millstone around the proverbial neck! They borrowed massively to fund that purchase and that constrained the ability for the core bus business to invest in fleet.

Not only that, they were also constrained by their London businesses that demanded investment to fund the fleet to meet the tender requirements - hence why you see so few provincial deliveries between 2009 and 2013. The double whammy was that London also meant you had tender losses etc where you would have fleet that was still on the books (in terms of depreciation) that needed to be deployed.

Glasgow has some pronounced parallels with Bristol which was similarly afflicted so that after some Eclipses and Geminis in 2009 (to meet a quality partnership), there were only 12 Eclipses received until Dec 2012 and that for the airport service. The only upside was that Bristol avoided receiving London Tridents (though did get a large batch of B7 Geminis) though some other ex London tat did arrive with Marshall and Plaxton Darts, Lance SLFs.

Hopefully, Glasgow will continue to follow Bristol in receiving a much improved fleet, having much brighter targeted branding, and that leads to improved passenger figures.

Alot of high heedgins. Ie top brass around glasgow today including Giles Fernley. Alot of managers and social media people around, Including a new Instagram first scotland page.

It seem 75 will be here by the end of the year with high hopes of another 75 before april but this could change.

Free goodie bags for all (two differnet version) des clack and chance to win free bus travel or bag of sweeties.

Mr Javis knows how to get noticed.

Mr Jarvis is doubtless keen to get kudos from his bosses (anyone who doesn't try not to look a tool in front of their boss is a tool) but he is probably more bothered about getting some good publicity for the investment.
