Same here, I cant understand the process, why they tell people to wait 2 nail biting weeks for results and others get it on the day.
I have emails the careers centre and left a message on the phone to them to ask about my results. Looks like we'll have to wait til Monday now.

Yeah, already done it & been to stage 1 assessment! Got another email asking me to book it again! At least I know what to say this time!

I would ring HR as I got another telephone interview booking after sucessfully completing the telephone interview and being asked to book an assessment centre. I rang them and they resolved it that day and said it was a mistake.dont waste time doing the telephoen interview again, its a mistake.

could you tell me what they ask as the telephone assessment? the description on the website makes it sound very informal, but If you could offer any heads up or areas I should concentrate or focus on that would be great

thanks
mark

hey mark, i did my research into first company and great western, also wrote out things about my experience in work and life etc. have some notes written in front of you. i forgot exactly what was asked, questions were along the lines of:

. what do you think the job involves
. what challenges do you think you may face in the role
. give experiences of times you gave exceptional customer service
. how did you handle a complaint

hope this helps, make sure you prepare and come across confident, practice your telephone voice too, sounds weird but dont sound bored or boring lol

In addition to the above my telephone interviewer mentioned in the formal intro (like t&c's) that it was as much on HOW you say what you say...as it was on the answers given. So try to be clear and confident.

Questions were as above and I do recall being stunned at how quick it was!! It was over before I got into 'interview mode' which is probably the point!

Best of luck.

I was there that Thursday 12-3, I'm not expecting to hear anything back in a hurry, certainly not by yesterday as the guy said!

Think I might be slowly starting to lose my mind in this waiting game lol

When did you sit your stage 1? I sat mine in May (passed - told in June), stage 2 August (passed - found out on website two weeks later) and have been waiting to be invited for DM interview for a fortnight.

It's taking ages!!! :-x Got to be in it to win it, I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end!!

Think I am correct in saying that he and I sat stage one the same day, Thursday the 12th.

We were told (by the OPC examiner) that they would all be marked and FGW informed of our results by the middle of the following week ( last week) and that we should hear from FGW by the end of that week (last week) as to whether we had made it to stage 2.

We didn't..... LOL.

Granted the wait hasn't actually been that long, but I too am refreshing my email and the FGW site like a man possessed haha

Evening! First post...
I was at the Assessment Centre in Bristol on Thurs 12th Sept. Just to say I've not heard anything yet either. The chap who ran it said we'd here by the end of next week - which is the end of last week, but he wasn't a FGW bod, so maybe that's just general advice.
I am waiting patiently. On a brighter (if slightly confusing!) note - I've been sent practice papers etc for Train Manager, ahead of a future assessment centre.

Hi all, I thought I would add my experience so far as I have been a bit of a lurker of these boards.

I was also in Bristol two weeks ago for the Stage 1 Assessment - Tues 12-3. Waiting for results like everybody else.

I think there are some quirks in the new application website - completed my application and the two online tests. Then received a phone call from FGW (which I missed) and they left a voicemail asking me to confirm my date of birth. Five minutes after the voicemail I received an email saying thank you for attending the interview but I had been unsuccessful....

I phoned them back with my date of birth and then asked about the email - to which the very nice lady I spoke to confirmed it had been sent in error and that I should have received the telephone interview request - which she booked there and then for me.

Telephone interview done, and received the successful email less than an hour later (even though the telephone interviewer said I would here in 2-3 weeks). I then booked the Stage 1 Assessment.

Anyhow, good luck to everyone also waiting for their results!

If you made mistakes and ommitted any and the others that did less didn't or if you was not consistant and the others with less were they will pass and you will not - as said before it isn't quantity it is quality and accuracy the test is aimed at and this would have been explained by the assessor - however if you did a lot with no mistakes and none ommited you will get a good pass

Just going back through my old posts, can happily report that I did indeed receive a good pass for my group bourdon. :D

Hi, I just heard today that after applying for FGW at Paddington I have been invited to do the phone interview and have chosen Monday at 8.30. I sat the assessments back in August with Southern and passed all, except the CBI which I did not sit because I did not get through the driver manager interview which is done before the CBI at Southern. If I am successful in the phone interview would I just need to sit the CBI part with FGW? or does being invited to a phone interview mean they have already checked my results and they are good enough to progress to the phone interview stage? Reading the early parts of this thread it seems some got invited to assessment prior to any phone interview, so I am a bit confused as where I am in the process.

Having not got through the DM interview with Southern (and still not received feedback after 2 weeks) I am obviously keen not to make the same mistakes. I come from a client service background in finance and have also worked in travel as a tour manager so I can give lots of examples on client service and dealing with the public. I have, however, not ever worked in a safety critical environment (though escorting groups of 100+ elderly people around ships in Europe is not without risk!) and it is this area which I wonder let me down on the Southern DM interview.

I have been through the threads and can't seem to find specific answers to my questions so apologies if these have been asked before and I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.

Thanks

have you heard back from FGW after doing your telephone interview?

how did you find it?

I did mine, seemed ok, but they are very vague on any questions I asked, non committal about anything...

lets wait and see what happens...

I found it quite hard as her headset was picking up too much background chatter. I asked her to move the mouth piece nearer! I got the impression that it was being done by a third party agency as she had little knowledge of the process, role or timescales.

I take it that no-one has heard back from FGW in regard to stage 1 results....and its not just me left witing and frantically refreshing my email to know the result, either way!!?

Wouldnt be chomping the bit quite as much if we hadnt been told we would hear by the end of last week and others (outside of this tranche) were told on the day!

But at least its not just me alone - haha
