Beverly Hills Cop - loads of fun from Eddie Murphy and the gang, not a masterpiece but you can't knock it, the best of the the three "Beverly Hills Cop" films and of course the music is spot on. 7.0/10

Ghosts of Mars - I don't why this John Carpenter film is rated so low on IMDb, I think it's pretty good, it moves along at a good pace with no padding (and there's a train in it) - 6.5/10

Don't know Dale, was watching Deadpool (Again) with a mate last night, his first time. Ghosts of Mars came up in conversation, not massive fans. That said it doesn't make anyone right or wrong. I didn't really like it, didn't hate it mind.

Watched Pandorum on Wednesday night. Not amazing but a good film and a nice little twist at the end.

Frozen was the film I saw on Saturday, those wolves were scary, also I didn't believe it was possible to forgo toilet breaks for that long. I'd have broke the chairlift first rather than jump or climb on the wires.
The film starts off well but becomes boring by the second day.
It was nothing like I expected.
2/5

On Sunday I saw Battleship again, thanks to this thread for the comment about the gameboard pegs seen in the film :)
It looks better than before now.

Dark City - a good idea that doesn't quite deliver, William Hurt was good but I found Kiefer Sutherland almost unbearably annoying. 6.0/10

Moon - Small cast (Sam Rockwell plus Kevin Spacey as the voice of GERTY the robot and a few minor characters) and most of the film takes place in a few rooms of the lunar station but Sam Rockwell puts in a convincing performance(s) in this excellent bit of sci-fi. 8.0/10

Horrible Bosses - a well crafted comedy about three men plotting to kill their bosses, I particularly liked Ioan Gruffudd's cameo as a ... well you need to see it. Kevin Spacey's in this as well. 6.5/10

I love Dark City, Rufus Sewell is pretty good plus you have Richard O'Brien and Jennifer Connelly. Plus William Hurt is great. Never gets a lead role but he is also good in A History Of Violence.

Moon is amazing. :D

IWatched Kick Ass for the first time last night, really enjoyed it.

I think Kick Ass is an amazing film, I was absolutely gobsmacked the first time I saw it. The music, editing, action, pacing and acting (especially Chloe Moretz who really stole the film as Hit Girl)) were perfect and some of the lesser roles were really well played by Michael Rispoli, Clark Duke and Stu 'Large' Riley to name a few of my favourites. I know some find it shocking and at my age I don't suppose I was the target audience but I loved it.

There are some remarkable scenes that stay with you - the rescue, Rasul's flat, the final shoot-out, the lobby. - I can watch those over and over again.

Thoroughly recommended - if you're broad-minded. 9.0/10

Another big review:

Wyatt Earp - A 3 hour Costnerian epic Western about the life of lawman Wyatt Earp. It is well acted, filmed and produced but slow and a little rambling but does protray a complex cahrecter in more depth than usual westerns. However, if you want a western shoot em up on similar ground try Tombstone

Payback: Mel Gibson in a modern film noir. Porter ( Gison) is a criminal. He is ripped off by his partners, shot and left for dead. He is after revenge and gets it after hunting them down one by one. He gets mixed up with Mafia & Triads and kills them while framing some bent cops trying to frame him. It is clever and you end up rooting for the anti hero in his quest for revenge.

Mean Streets:Martin Scorsese directed crime thriller. Harvey Keitel is a young Italian-American man who is trying to move up in the local New York Mafia but is hampered by his feeling of responsibility towards his reckless younger friend Robert De Niro, a small-time gambler who owes money to many loan sharks. It ends badly in a shoot out. It was cutting edge at the time and set the standard for all the gangster films that came after. It is still superb.

Basic John Travolta & Samuel L Jackson star but the film is confusing and silly with an fairly obvious twist at the end. Not worth watching.

The Perfect Storm Wolfgang Peterson directed disaster film about the fishing boat Andrea Gail sinking in a hurricane. Starts Marky Mark Wahlberg & George Clooney. It is decent enough but not that great and doesn't really have any depth. Huge box office success mind!

The World's End The final film of the Simon Pegg & Simon Frost "Cornetto Trilogy" and it is the least good although it isnt a bad film. It just seems a little bit silly, especially at the end. I didn't like it as much as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead

Waking Ned A gentle comedy about a man who dies winning the lottery allowing his friends to scam the lotto and share the £6.8m prize around the village. it is slow but endearing.

End of Watch staring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña which focuses on their day-to-day police work, their dealings with a certain group of gang members, and their personal relationships. They get gung ho and annoy drug barons who exact revenge leaving one of them dead. It is a very good cop movie that focuses more on the close relations between partners and the effect of the traumatic ending on the survivor.

A dramatization of the 2010 oil disaster. Was a good film, but the ending was so depressing.

10 Cloverfield Lane. Lots of fun. If you hadn't already seen Cloverfield it would play with your head.

The Man Who Haunted Himself I watched again. 3.5/5
Good acting, odd ending.

Excalibur I'm watching now, I've been banned from watching They Live until the rest of the family can see it :(
So far it's great, it is just as the story should be, very well done.
4-5/5
EDIT: it ended rather badly, Patrick Stewart was rarely in it.
2/5.

And the Quatermass Films are good, sadly the first film serial has missing bits.
The Pit is probably the best.

Men in Black - I don't suppose I need to go into detail as I'm sure you've all seen it; it's just a damn good film 8.0/10

True Lies - Arnie doing what he does best with support from Jamie Lee Curtis; action, wisecracks, explosions and a Harrier jump jet for the finale 7.5/10

The Yards - Mark Wahlberg as an ex-con trying to go straight amidst the corruption of New York subway contractors; with Joaquin Phoenix, Charlize Theron, James Caan and Faye Dunaway (not as I remember her from Bonnie and Clyde). A competent film but nothing spectacular. 6.5/10

Watched 16 Blocks last night with Bruce Willis and Moss Def. Entertaining bad cop film. Worth the effort.

Quatermass and the Pit - classic Hammer sci-fi/horror. A remarkable film with a message and an unlikely hero. It may be 50 years old but it's still well worth watching; in fact everyone should see it and with this link you can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtegnLJ7Kj0 7.5/10
And the Goon Show sendup - the Scarlet Capsule

following the death of Gene Wilder - Blazing Saddles, Mel Brook's totally tasteless spoof on how the West was never won

He Who Dares - Awful. Simply the worst film ever. Terrible script, terrible acting, sh$t kung fu, woeful action scenes and the least convincing villian and SAS types in history - a total cheese fest. The sort of film Channel 5 would reject as too rubbish even for them!

They Live, John Carpenter's best film, great story, best fight scene over a pair of sun glasses ever! It's not unbelievable either.
5 Star

Tron: Legacy, not really my sort of film, bike stunts etc make it a weak on story being more visual effects, although it is set in a game. 2/5

Since this also includes film discussion, what are your views on:
The Harry Potter Spin-offs, and Star Wars Rogue One upcoming films?

Watched "The Battle For Warsaw" aka "Stones For The Rampart" aka "Kamienie na szaniec" last night. Really good film, very gritty about Polish partizans in Warsaw during WW2. (Subtitles).

After that I watched Sunshine which I think is amazing. Sci Fi written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle. I'd seen it before but why not.

Tonight went round to a mates flat and took Defiance with me. Another film I loved. A true story about Jewish partizans in Belarus led by the Bielski brothers played by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell (From Billie Elliot).

Hot Fuzz: 7.0/10 (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Paddy Considine, dir. Edgar Wright)

Not as good as Shaun of the Dead, but still a good film. It's got some good jokes, though it takes a while to get going. You could also point out that it all gets a bit too macabre at some points; however, that last half hour or so is pure brilliance. It's genius! It's really worth the wait. So I'm on the fence about this one, really, but it's on the 'good' side of good, so I recommend watching it.

Wow.

This is the second-best film in the Cornetto Trilogy. That's how good it is.

The best Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film is Paul.

That's a great film mate, I agree. I haven't watched it since late last year (I think it was over the Christmas holidays), I will definitely have to give it another watch at some point in the near future. I remember going to the cinema with my Dad to see it when it came out, can't believe it was nearly a decade ago.

Danny Boyle is one of my favourite directors, and the film's soundtrack is excellent. I think the "Icarus One" distress beacon sound effect is spot on too, it never fails to send a shiver down my spine.

Star Command

A ship is sent as a part courier and part training mission for new officers - however, an attack by a rival group causes the entire senior staff to be killed. The newly qualified officers/cadets have to assume command and take on the enemy and defend a colony

For what should have been a pilot to a TV series that was never made, I thought it did darned well - graphics hold up 20 years on

Mutant Chronicles - WW1 trenches, steampunk, mutants, action, explosions, swords all mixed together in a fun film. The following quote from an IMDb review sums it up pretty well. 6.5/10
Yep its derivative, full of clichés, underdeveloped characters, but its still great fun and full of B movie goodness. Visually stunning and imaginative production design and great special effects combine to create what will no doubt become a minor cult classic over time.

Monty Python's The Meaning of Life - another excellent film from the team, this time I was particularly struck by the choreography for "Every Sperm is Sacred". 8.0/10

Mindfield - I'm glad I paid only 50p for the DVD, what on earth were Michael Ironside and Christopher Plummer doing in this? The supporting actors were awful 3.0/10

After that I watched Sunshine which I think is amazing. Sci Fi written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle. I'd seen it before but why not.

I haven't seen Sunshine for a while but I seem to remember that one thing bothered me about it. The crew were willing to risk the mission, and thereby condemn the Earth to incineration, in a hazardous attempt to rescue the crew of the previous mission; or have I misremembered?

I'm interested in that Star Command, never seen it.

Last was Hell Drivers, film starring many big names such as Sean Connery and Sid James in secondary roles. Truck drivers from a ballast transport company are told to speed over dangerous roads, big pay though.
But the drivers end up competing with each other.
4/5. Found it on Talking Pictures channel on the movies page for Sky, never noticed it before.
