Well, personally I never made anything in MSTS, so I can't say it's quicker. I will say that it's difficult to get used to, but once you know what does what and where things are, you can get thins done quite quickly.
And Fred, I wouldn't rate my route too highly, but I have seen some excellent things being worked on already - and you obviously haven't read alot of my posts regarding KRS, where I state that developers can get a head start on routes with the included editor while we wait for the dev pack.
EDIT: One more thing pete, it's certainly much quicker to do a fictional route - I can work on my fictional route alot faster than the Lea Valley Line route, as I am modeling something as opposed to making something look good.
