I notice my 10.10 from Guildford to Gatwick Airport today had working WiFi for a change. I so noticed that the WiFi name is FGW and scrolling message in the train CiS said First Great Western.

How easy or even difficult is it to update CISs and WiFi names?

I used GWR on Tuesday and although none of the four trains I used had internal CIS, the WiFi on the HST on the way up was named GWR - and worked - yet on the way back both GWR and FGW were available although neither actually gave me any Internet.

More amusing was the guard on the return HST back from Paddington to Exeter who kept saying 'this First Great Western... sorry, Great Western Railway service...'

166213 had the announcements updated when I found it on Wednesday. The actual wording was still the same but the voice was different. However, I'm certain they edited it to change the tone! A couple of bits in the announcements were still left to do.

Having just seen the new network map, I think it looks far too cluttered around the London area. Do they really have to include every SWT route?

It's exactly the same as the old network map except that the colours have changed.

I've just read in Rail Magazine that no more HST's are to be refurbished in the new livery precisely because they will be moving on shortly.

Personally I'm glad they've done one as it acknowledges that they are still the flagship fleet for the time being.

As for the others, well trains need a refresh from time to time, so as long as they rebrand when this is due I suppose it's not too much money.

That seems sensible. I will be sad to see them go. They have been part of my life from a teenager to middle age.

Indeed. I grew up on the Southern, so my experience of Intercity only began in the mid 90's. However, since moving 'oop North' (and holidaying in Cornwall over the past decade) I've grown to love the 125's and will also miss them when they're gone.

That is exactly my feelings too, I was in my last year at school when the prototype was launched along with APT-E.

Indeed. I grew up on the Southern, so my experience of Intercity only began in the mid 90's. However, since moving 'oop North' (and holidaying in Cornwall over the past decade) I've grown to love the 125's and will also miss them when they're gone.

We switched from road to rail for our holiday journeys to Cornwall during the early 90s and along with the 47+mk2 sets really grew to love the journey down on them until the Voyagers took over, when you think, they've not done bad at all considering they were only supposed to last 10-15 years as a stopgap until the production versions of the APT took over.

Such happy memories of HSTs. I would like to see how they look in the green livery. I have always like Dynamic Lines. My favourites are the original Intercity 125 and the GNER Mallard liveries.
